Will Flan's posts be worth reading in a few months?

Will they even be readable?

I'm not really an artistically-minded person like blacky, but I can't help but wonder: where exactly is the direction in these photos? I mean nature's nice and all, but what exactly is the overlying coherence or redeeming grace that distinguishes this autumn foliage collection from y'know--any other amateurish collection that people toss up on the Internet with an expensive camera (along with a level of technical expertise of course which I won't discount)?

In short: how is this art?

Fundamentalists and evangelists tend to fetishize post-apocalyptic doomsday and stuff, but I think there's an almost melancholic sweetness to the epilogue of any story--as the curtain closes on this performance and the crowd starts to disperse you get this warm feeling knowing the characters go on living their lives even after the last page.

For one: Look at it, you nitwit. It's beautiful. Far better than any picture I can take. This takes talent to recognize what makes a good picture, and blacky here does.

Second: If he really claimed it was art, he'd put it in the art forum instead of here. The point is, he's talking about his old and busted and the new hotness.

But yeah, I really did enjoy those pics bh. I kinda wanna photoshop them somehow and make one of them my wallpaper.

As for my own experiences: I only have this everyday digital camera... it's like 8MP and the CCD's at least okay... Lens is run-of-the-mill, too. Kind of kills my previous 5MP camera with it's shitty graininess.

I dunno it just feels like it doesn't scream autumn as much as Oxbridge and by that I mean stodgy, pretentious architecture. I can't really feel any emotion or blacky-ness in these photos, nor does it transfix my senses or make my heart waver--even the framing and locations honestly feel sort of arbitrary like some uber-well-taken googlemaps shots. I think blacky's older shots just seem a lot more inspired, so I was disappointed. ;__;

Now to be honest I haven't seen seasons change in years, but I want to see just one picture which really captures the essence of blacky's autumnniess. Winter just makes for a more poignant scene so I will wait for some Michaelmas pics.

The camera seems like a nice compromise between the bulky, expensive DSLRs and the "okay" cameraphone level of quality, plus it seems pretty durable and nostalgic looking.

I would say crack would be more dangerous because it creates a want in people, who will make them do literally ANYTHING to get it.
Have you never seen an actual alcoholic, then?

If you factor out the difference in availability of either drug in our culture, you at the very least won't notice much of a difference.

Relatedly, I remember reading a feuilleton article where the author contended that just as smoking is in the process of getting marginalized at a pace and to a degree that nobody would have thought possible fifty years ago, the time will come soon enough when alcohol, too, will successfully be wiped from society regardless of any tradition that might be associated with it. While he made a compelling point about recent developments paralleling the beginning of the downfall of smoking (the alcohol industry being gradually pushed into the defensive with all the "drink responsibly" disclaimers just like cool rugged cowboys had to make way for "smoking can lead to erectile dysfunction"), I still was not convinced to a degree that I would repeat his prophecy affirmatively. What do you think?

Alcoholism might be on the decline but there's nothing wrong with recreational drug usage.

Also what if you like abusing people as well as alcohol?
e: or if you like abuse but not alcohol

The term "monopoly" typically more precisely refers to a company dominating one particular market (e.g. the market for search engines).

This is more of an ACME kind of thing.

I think he means a horizontal monopoly,

A monopoly created through horizontal integration is called a horizontal monopoly.

I guess Google has a long way before trying to take the automotive industry head on. What they are doing now is nothing more than excentric toys...

And that's different from Porsche etc. how?

If you work at google you can own a porsche but if you work at porsche you cannot own a google.

e: A remote-controlled porsche no less

Actually on second thoughts, porsches have become the uppity proles' car, if you work at google you'll probably want a ferrari or a lamborgini, or maybe just a tesla for the lulz. The mountain view site has perfect weather and there are some great roads around north cal so it is a sound investment.

PAL after deinterlacing?

Also, I reckon that quite many mobile systems nowadays would use speedstepping and other performance-lowering techniques to save battery power.

Do you think you could play suikoden II on your android phone comfortably, or would you need a more modern one or a nicer control pad or whatnot?

Because of Prudes in Power, to put it simply.

...wait...

"The Canadian Press now considers the word to be commonplace and has added usage advice to the Canadian Press Caps and Spelling guide."

GO CANADIA!

Do you think blacky has a sharply-contrasting irl persona like a socialite/rockstar/Yagami Light/12-yo-japanese-girl?

Have you ever wanted to be the little girl (I was reading Hourou Musuko, which is amazing and also slated to be animated next season)? Who does not want to be the little girl?

Also how does this look?

Am I the only one who doesn't see serious cognitive dissonance with this picture?

e: Why is REDALiCE so awesome I'm so jealous

and

Don't you wish I was a bit less boring and normal?

Over the years blacky has revealed numerous foibles such as his ordinary-ness at math, fashion and programming as well being a potential lolicon and frequenter of the internet. When it comes to things like drugs he's not conservative, yet he has a youthful naivety to them when it comes to personal usage and when it comes to women he seems rather jaded already somehow. He seems like the sort of person who likes procrastinating up until the last minute for the rush of killing yearly exams after studying the night before. He doesn't like people seeing his soft side or through his weaknesses.

But honestly I can't really think of any personality flaws he has which is weird since that's usually the first, intermediate and last part of a person I see. You've known him a bit longer probably so mind taking a whack at it?

e2: people have said there is very offensive stuff on the internet, but i have not run across any offensive stuff on the internet, only irl. do you know about this offensive stuff people are talking about? i don't mean like people taking pictures of the offensive stuff you see everyday irl like the welfare office or the racially-skewed prisons or the schools but something else.

Sometimes as most people often do, I was thinking about the Holocaust--its constituents, the "feel" of the time, the motivations and value structures that coursed through the various populaces before during and after the world wars (perhaps even the cold war and the modern wars and even how war changed after the Holocaust if at all).

Naturally, the big question usually boils down to "why'd he do it?" seeing as Hitler is one of the rare occasions where open declaration of genocide isn't so palatable. Well actually that's the second biggest question, since the first is usually more along the lines of: "why was the holocaust memorable?"

So gather round the fire, get some popcorn and swap your favorite holocaust conspiracies here!

1) The Holocaust generally differed from the other genocides that have taken place in history, along with continuing genocides which are still thriving like the War on Terrorism. It's not as though people didn't think they weren't killing other people during the Holocaust--just like people deep down at the bottom of their hearts have a feeling that those hundreds of thousands of terrorists that they've been slaughtering. One can see this in the great amount of love and care that they put into the concentration camps, how this passionate cause drove Nazi scientists to do their best (and the rest of the Axis powers and the Allied powered for that matter) as well as the sheer volume of economic effort they invested in their dreams. They just don't make wars like they used to; these days, wars are so impersonal and soldiers don't even know what they're fighting for, who they're fighting for, who they're fighting against--the list goes on, and ultimately instead of battle-hardened soldiers coming back with a triumphant return, you get a bunch of kids who should have stayed in their parent's basement and played Call of Duty 5 or whatever (which they end up doing anyways, what with their lack of useful skills).

War seems to have become something as frivolous as a video game for these kids; hell, these days they go to an office, kill people with remote controlled planes from a air-conditioned room in north dakota, punch out at five and have dinner with the wife and kids no differently than any other white-collar worker. If they aren't even risking their lives why are we paying them these outrageous salaries, they have no other useful skills and should be paid federal minimum wage and be happy with the cushy benefits package they get.

2) Maybe Hitler just didn't like Jews? Maybe he was just really bored? Perhaps this was his artistic legacy that he etched permanently onto the consciousness of the masses, his existential scream at a time when he was desperately flailing for something that would validate his existence. Maybe he had a fetish where he could only come if he was ethically-cleansing jews and faggots and other degenerates. If you think about the Holocaust as Hitler's sole work of art, then perhaps it is one of the most popular works of all time, if not the most beautiful or sophisticated (Hitler was known to be a rather poor artist). Maybe he just wanted that praise that he never got in life from where he most needed it: his parents.
