anyway, 8x8 sprites would be the typical in NES games because the precious CHR memory can be often wasted with 8x16 sprites, see the digits and score sprites (since they stick out the most) have a vacant / wasted tile next to them because they're only meant to be viewed as an 8x8 sprite. You wouldn't see any of this in 8x8 sprite mode. It limits the flexibility of CHR layout / wastes space while doubling the tiles per OAM slot (thereby usually reducing CPU usage because 2 tiles are formed with 1 OAM write) and allowing access to both pattern tables. another downside would be if you have vacant tiles as part of a 8x16 sprite, it still counts towards the 8 sprites per scan limit because the transparent tile data still gets fetched regardless.

Look at it this way: 8x16 removes part of the 64 sprite limit graphics-wise, but 8x8 can be a pain if you want to hack a 8x16 game to a 8x8 game limit-wise. 8x8 sprites in games has different position usage than 8x16.

I wish any linux had some dialup support.

without dialup support, I have no internet at all until I wait 5-6 months!

Most internal modems made in the last decade and apparently nearly all USB modems will not work with anything but Windows. If you want to use dialup with Linux, you may need to get an external modem with an RS-232 serial port.

Apperently I do have one. Can a US Robotics 56k (Faxmodem) Work on Debian Linux? I have a OSdisk.com Version of Debian from CD.

SML Music hackin

WOAH! Nice!

I'd would like seeing SMB1 music hacking with similar syntax.

(If there's source code involved and no NET crap. that is.)

Also, Why use a Mac? I would buy one, But My stuff is mostly run on Windows (98/2000/XP). I know it is better, But the compatibility is very different!

Very good news for users of YY-CHR: A new BETA version (v0.99) Is about to be finished, And it will be ported from HSP (Hot Soup Processor) to C++!

Visit YY's Official English Page for more Info (along with a more recent version of the Virus warning from HSP):

http://www.briansemu.com/yymarioed/

Hope this is the best news ever, And Enjoy!

-Hamtaro126

EDIT: It is in japanese right now, Please wait to see if YY makes it stable and finalized, Then either a english release (and possibly source) will be made

Hi There,
Just writing to findout how the SMB3 Editor is going? Have you made any advancements since your last post?

#1: DahrkDaiz ain't active, Due to Collage possibly? Consider it frozen or dead.

Posted by reecepeart
Hi There,
Also I know you said there would not be any SMAS SMB3 Support but will you consider implementing it in the future? Also will you have eventual support for SMA4?

Because that would be great.

I must also thank you for your ongoing work.

Kind Regards'
Reece

#2: DahrkDaiz cannot do a SMA4 Editor, Due to it's entirely different format.

#3: Please read the do's and don'ts in the FAQ, Especially when bumping. This can result in a ban if this keeps going on.

Otherwise: Good Try!

Keep it up, and it will become a super hack!

BTW: Good luck on making the last 5-10 levels.

There are many great NES games that I'm amazed have never been hacked.

You are right on that one:

Posted by HylianFox

Journey to Silius

Journey to silius is hard to hack. Same with the game I am going to say about:

Hebereke/Ufouria seems to have never been hacked. But I cannot request it, because I gave up.

All I know is that Hebereke, Gimmick, Journey to Silius and Dodge Danpei uses a similar music engine (but in each game it is rearranged) to Fester's Quest (and to an extent: Blaster Master).

That and a person that was working on a level editor for Ufouria. The person (named Crusher) who was doing the Ufouria editor now goes to emuparadise. I am so sorry to say that it could be abandoned due to some lack of time.

Genius!!

This will be the best of the editors Never-Obsolete has made!

The pirate game Pandmar...

(Video)

I feel like making a level hack outta this pirate just to mess around, minus that gawd awful music. Thanks to You Tube for Audio Swap...

You should put in a replace it with the original Mario Music if you have to release it.

Because it is used in Pocket Maero (Pocket World, a Pokemon-like SMB pirate from one of the many multicart dumps in CaH4e3's page.) I'm sure Googie already knows the link to the page I mentioned.

I've unfortunately tried to follow it. I
But I can't remember which Emulator can do that.

FCEUX (The Newest FCEU emulator) is recomended for saving NES Game pictures on the computer. Hope that helps.

Now on the FrontPage under a new section named ''Famicom Disk System''

Corrects Engrish and Remade Title, Size constraints are OK for this hack.

Note that it's my first Translation! Enjoy and that's all, for now.

Image of the title screen:

Now does the [img] command work, or can someone get it to work for me?

A single screenshot? Of the title screen? Try harder; most people want more than that.

(image)

That is how an img tag works.

I will try to make a better title, but there is not a lot of space.

Thanks. I will fix it!

Here's Gameplay Images:

Well there seems to be a very big error, Note there is no Otis character in the game (Just a female cat) but our version of the movie got Otis (the dog) in the same context but in the japanese film, it changed to fit a second kitty, a therory that may be true is that **Cats and dogs do not mix in Japan as heard of many times in Japanese Movies and Video games! I may have to change the sprites of the 2nd character or change the title to the original japanese name.

** means it may be a Cultural Reference(?)

I'll see what I come up with in v1.01

What about making these ASM plugins for the newest version of Emerald editor (for people to choose): ca65_6502, ca65_65816, wladx_6502, wladx_65816 and asm6)

I could make them.... Maybe?

Awesome ASM hack DahrkDaiz, This is making better progress and the new Level format is a indefinate WIN!

Prehaps I can finally make a hack of SMB3 with all SMB1 levels in it as a proper demonstration of these features after release.

Questions (Not really requests, Just checking things):

Will we see a similar ASM hack with the Map screens?

Will we probably see a Status bar editor?

Will there be a few new example sprites never seen in SMB3 that are seen in SMB1 (like a SMB1 bowser)

Will there be a ASM hack for goals? (turn the cards into a SMB1 flag with castle, or simple goal symbols,)

(Embedded Movie)

Yeah, I know about the palettes and other random bugs in the video. I didn't really put much effort into these levels except for the purpose of showing Reuben off a little.

Finally! Attribute hacking in a Mario game in which instead of using fixed attribute sections, you can write any 4 attributes where needed!

Now THAT is a must-have, Thanks for telling us KP9000.

P.S. to Messiean: Also a nice job hacking SM64 to use Banjo-Kazooie Levels, And I think you also ported one of B-K's Songs to SM64 complete with matching samples.

(The other video mentioned to Messiean is not shown, look at the end where the other video is shown within the youtube video selector.)
