Jostein Pedersen, "the Norwegian Terry Wogan", did not do the commentary this year. He's become a cult hero among Norwegian Eurovision-fans, but has also been espeically hated by the Swedish media for talking down on their entries each and every year (I particularly enjoyed the year he called the Swedish act "as exciting as furniture from IKEA").

Anyway, this year, the commentary was done by Per Sundnes, and the man was an absolute travesty. He did pretty much everything wrong, talked when he should be quiet, and managed to mess up on a lot of Eurovision-trivia. The highlight of it all, though, was when Serbia was handing out their points, and the man remarks that he expects douze points to be given to Serbia. Any idiot knows you can't hand out points to your own country. The man ruined the entire experience. Sadly, as oposed to a football game with poor commentary, you can't turn the sound off Eurovision.

Anyway, I note that the United Kingdom still seems to be sour grapes over their nul points in 2003 (which was, as I've said before, because their song was a travesty, and not because of the Iraqi war). I mean, ever since 2003 they've sent horrible songs as what I can only assume is a form of infantile we-want-you-to-know-that-we-don't-care. The UK is the home of pop music, surely they should be able to dig up something that's kitsch, camp, trashy, yet still good.

People around here are generally upset with political voting in Eastern Europe keeping us out of the final. I think that is quite laughable, seeing as how we've been doing political voting in Scandinavia since the dawn of time.

With the Premier League wrapped up for United and the Serie A for Inter, we have to turn to Spain as the last of the Big 3 to not have produced a champion:

Real Madrid back on top in La Liga today, but they have played one more match than Barcelona. The current top 4 is Real Madrid (66pts/34matches), Barcelona (65/33), Sevilla (64/34), Valencia (59/33).

I'd say Valencia is pretty much out of the race. Even if they win the game in hand, they are still 4 points behind Real Madrid. But it's quite open for the other three. Never liked Barcelona, and Real Madrid is kinda old, so I'm hoping for Sevilla to win. Sevilla might actually win a minor treble this year, what with them being in the finals of the Spanish Copa del Rey and the UEFA Cup.

As for the Champions League, I'm really hoping that Liverpool win it. I think that it's a disgrace that AC Milan is in the competition this year, and I would see it as horrible if they were to go on to win it.

Derby take on WBA in the playoff for Premiership promotion. Slightly disappointed, as I was hoping for a Wolves vs Saints playoff final, they're both ok teams I'd like to see back in the top flight. Derby and WBA I don't care for.

And grats to Sevilla on winning the UEFA Cup. First team to retain the trophy since Real Madrid in 1985 and 1986 (which was the only other time a team has done that). It's also the first time any European trophy has been retained since AC Milan took the Champions League in 1989 and 1990.

If Sevilla either have a horrible end to their season and end up finishing outside the top four (highly unlikely) or end up going into the UEFA Cup from the Champions League (more likely), and go on to win their third straight UEFA Cup title, they'll be the first team in history to keep the trophy.

In other news, yesterday was the traditional May 16th matches (I guess they can be likened to the NFL's turkey day games) here in Norway. Tromsø beat league leader Lillestrøm 2-1 in front of a full crowd at home, the atmosphere was great and I'm, obviously, extatic about it.

Italian football will never be fair and decent until they do some serious sorting out of the behavior of the fans and the players, and how it is organized.

With all the problems that's been going on in Italy, match-fixing scandals and murdered policemen, they should be penalized much in the same way as English football clubs was after Heysel.

They say European football would suffer from it, but I wouldn't really miss Italian clubs. There's lots of great players in England, Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Scotland to pick from, and their play is a lot more fair.

The 30th anniversary of the release date of the movie that changed the world was today. Just thought it was worth a mention.

So, which movie's your favorite? Me, I'm a sucker for the original, episode IV, A New Hope. Though I love them all, old and new trilogy.

I saw Revelations around the time I was waiting for Revenge of the Sith (I think it was because of a link from Acmlm's, actually). It was good, though some of the acting was slightly stale.

Spoiler:
I envy Will Turner. If I only had one day every ten years on land I would probably use that day on something other than watching this movie, thus I would be spared from it.

I just don't know what to say. It was almost as if they decided that since everyone dislikes sequels anyway, there was no reason for them to bother making anything good. It's one of the worst big-name movies I've ever seen. I think I spent the last hour or so just waiting for it to end.

Edit: I'm sorry that I seem overly harsh. It's just that, well, the movie really was a disappointment. And quite boring and bland. I'm sure when some time has passed that I'll find that I've seen worse movies, but still... Eugh...

It might be because I grew up so close to Sweden, or because I've met some idiot Danes in my life, or something or the other, but I really wanted Sweden to beat Denmark. Shame it happened in such a way, though. I think it's great if UEFA punishes Denmark with both awarding Sweden the win and makes them play 0-crowd home matches for a while, makes idiot drunken fans think before trying to assault the ref.

I wonder, though, if UEFA sets the scoreline to 3-0, obviously the goals scored will no longer be counted. However, Poulsen will still have to serve a suspension for his red card, right?

For shame. I was looking for a Guadeloupe vs. Canada final. Guadeloupe because you always gotta root for the underdog. Canada because Bernier in their squad is a Tromsø player, and as such you gotta love 'em (Bernier is technically still a Tromsø player, but he's leaving for Germany in a couple of weeks).

Bah, US vs. Mexico is just boring.

Is it really, Toxic? I mean, you guys seem to draw Barcelona in the Champions League somehow each year.

I dunno, I think it's too early to say anything, since the transfer window is still open. I'm fairly certain it's gonna be a United-Chelsea race this year too, but if Benitez does the great signings he keeps talking about, Liverpool might pose a challenge. Arsenal is weakened, of course, but they still have some class players, and the transfer window ain't closed yet. Of the rest of the clubs, I see Tottenham as mounting an outside bid for a Champions League spot, with them keeping Berbatov and all.

In the Champions League, Barcelona looks stronger than ever, but Henry does have sort of a reputation for being a choker in the big matches. I thought Chelsea would win the Champions League last year, this year I'm not so sure. We'll have to wait and see what other transfers are done this summer.

Hiya! Long time no see. Happened to visit this board today and figured I'd just say hello. Just wondering if any of the old gang is still here? Y'know, from way back when.

For those who don't know me, I used to be a very active member around the turn of the millennium (all them posts from back then are gone now, though. ).

So I guess I just felt like being nostalgic and check if any old timers were still hanging around. I see a lot of familiar user names in the member list, but how many of these are still active?

(Oh yeah, I guess I joined a Facebook-group a while ago for Acmlmers, but from what I can tell it hasn't been too active)

The good first half of this decade, I'd say. I'm bad with years, but I believe I hung out at Acmlm's (when it was hosted at overclocked.org) from around 2001 to, psssh, around 2005? Seems this place is a bit less active now, though? That's a bleeding shame.
