As the FAQ clearly states, you shouldn't link to ROMs.

For your hacks, use IPS or another patch format.

I shall edit the link out of your post now.

For one, the FAQ clearly reads,

# Use proper grammar and avoid '1337speak' and AOL speak (u/ur/y/ in place of words such as you/you're/why). It is a good way to gain respect.

Secondly, no-content requests like this are frowned upon. We are not your errand boys.

Thirdly, Google and torrent sites are your friend.

In short, this goes into the bin.

The only two games of that kind I tried are Touhou 10.5 (Hisouten/Scarlet Weather Rhapsody) and Akatsuki Blitzkampf. Out of those, I liked the former more.

Wild renaming of threads makes tracking a thread more difficult; if you accessed a thread once, you might later encounter difficulties to rediscover it if it was renamed.

Also, there is the whole thing about creating a possibility to write heck-knows-what into one of the topmost parts of the board's navigation and being able to change it back without leaving a trace. I see very few legitimate uses for it that couldn't be answered with "just PM a mod" - which also has the positive effect of adding a certain amount of required effort to it that prevents threads from changing titles all the time, as a source of annoyance and chaos, or whimsical changes in general - and lots of opportunities for hard-to-pin-down mischief.

Not that I'm completely opposed, but I don't see it as quite worth it.

I would be surprised if you got good ones for once.

Either way, I tweaked the system a bit. Might do so some more later. Good job there.

Before we say we are using BMF's HDMA kit... how exactly does that work? Does it hog the HDMA table all the time or is it possible to selectively turn it off? Because I'd rather write my HDMA code myself.

Also, with some new levels, it might help if we got a new testrom assembled.

edit: Also, for the songs, keep in mind we are not going to use SMW's native engine. While it's probably possible to write an importer (or even rely on MiOr's addmusic's N-SPC support), generally addmusic compatibility is a weak criterion to build on.

You did quite a lot of things wrong in this thread.

The thread title is half written in capslock; any positive expectations this might build regarding the novelty value of contents - and for that amount of emphasis, they are quite high - are utterly shattered upon actually opening the thread and observing your short two-liner post, you neither provided a sensible basis for discussion with information you provided yourself nor asked for others to provide any more information and effectively just let out what seems to be a display of unfounded, irrational hatred against your closer family on us.

Next time you feel like this, I recommend drowning one of her teddy bears in a bathtub filled with boiling water or something instead of posting here.

May I draw your attention to the circumstance that you just bumped a thread up from the third page?

If you don't cut it down and start paying a bit more attention to the rules set down by the FAQ, I fear the administration might see itself forced to take certain steps against you.

Those internet donation drive websites are suspicious.

Users of those oversized animated emoticons you see being sold in popup windows at times are even more suspicious.

You are not even offering a call for discussion but just asking for money.

This thread now goes.

Please read the FAQ before posting again.

I quote,

DON'T:
  • Act like the board is a chat room (post messages like 'HEY ACMLM', 'I AGREE', 'What's up?', or any messages directed to individuals). This is what the private message function is for.

Needless to say, this is getting canned.

For one, the whole pedobear thing stems from a misinterpretation of a 2ch ShiftJIS art character, who, in 2ch canon, just likes "nature" (with "nature" including everything from trees over °Д°-faced bushes to little girls; the latter being displayed in some imagery caused the misunderstanding).

Then, apart from the whole inside jokes being used to subtly identify as a member of a subculture thing, while this might seem like a somewhat cynical observation, repetition can make things funny - and, in nerdy mindset, very often does. I can only speculate as to why that is the case, but I observed largely the same kind of humour emerging in the social environment of mathematical olympiads, nerdier peer groups in my (specialized in maths and science) school and other places on the internet long before 4chan even existed. Even nowadays, it's a phenomenon not at all confined to 4chan and its sympathizers; consider, for instance, various Jul people's use of Jul smiley codes. Memes that are completely devoid of meaning don't go on to live for a long time, either; rather productive ones (like the well-used CD-i Zelda game quotes) typically profit from not only being used all the time and immediately recognized among the target group but also being "surprisingly fitting" or adopting previously unseen double meanings in certain contexts.
Then, I also think that a certain basic desire to make opaque allusions that will only be understandable to other people who hold a certain kind of qualification or belong to a certain social group - a desire to separate the rest of the world into an "in-group" and an "out-group" while communicating, so to speak - is inherent to mankind, or at least a certain strain of it. Ever-changing social slang evidences for that, barrages of intertextual allusions in higher-class literature does all the more so and I think it's only fair to assume that memes are the replacement for that in an internet where no other common cultural basis can be assumed with those one would like to address.

I was actually going to say a paraphrase of this earlier, but I didn't have the time then. I think you hit it exactly on the head: it's more about being part of the "secret internet clubhouse" than it is about actual humor.

At the same time, I don't think it's just about "heheh, I get this and people who aren't part of my secret internet clubhouse don't". It's more obvious with the mentioned cross-references in literature, but I think that "getting" an obscure reference, on a certain level, yields the same positive feedback solving a riddle or mathematical problem does.

Then, I was trying to make a point out of repetition actually having the capability of making things funny. I can't quite pinpoint the mechanism that leads to that, but looking, for instance, at the quite popular technique of introducing "running gags", it seems to be fairly widely recognized.

The only memes I honestly like are on youtube poops.
If you find ear-raping clips of Eggman saying PINGAS over and over at different pitches amusing, it is rather hypocritical of you to complain about 4chan's memes. None of what I've seen on Youtube so far was any better.

When did this devolve into a "spout all the 4chan memes you know" thread?

Since the topic of ED pages has been brought up, I think it is a quite interesting question why such a site can flourish if the "member of our secret clubhouse" thing is such an important aspect of memes.

Reading out a bit of a random Wikipedia article
edit: and another

I might have mispronounced some words. English is a horrible language in that respect.

It would be more correct to say you read the same thing as blackhole89 wrote.

I'd rather like a somewhat more legitimate opinion of a palette.
[]
Does this seem too "brown and grating," like a certain beloved superhero would have me believe? Perhaps I should lighten it a bit?

The background has too much contrast; but either way, I'd consider the FG and especially the BG part of SMW's cave tileset flawed and worthy of complete replacement.
