Although the previous attempts typically went down in shitstorms and rifts that extended even through the staff block, I figured it would be about time to attempt this again.

Post cute images! anime, animals, even objects, anything goes as long as it can be considered "cute" by some kind of measure gaining acceptance; both animations and static images are fine. To address some of the major qualms that struck down the last threads, though, please refrain from posting any imagery that is overtly erotic, illegal or of questionable nature.

I'll give this a start with some assorted (and unfortunately limited to the anime/games sector) material...

It was obvious that, at the point the first person said they're sure taking a long time, the expectations were so high they couldn't realistically have released anything a run-of-the-mill game developer is capable of releasing anymore.

In my eyes, it was a question of when it would happen, not whether.

I remember seeing that on 4chan years ago.

What NightKev said is pretty obviously true.

I totally feel with the narrator.

Where do the black rectangles come from? Did you add them?

And then there's that theory that they teamed up with Zombie Hitler in Antarctica and managed to escape to the rear side of the moon during the collapse of the Soviet Union, being welcomed warmly by the CIA aliens who have been there ever since and allowed to build their own communist nazi empire waiting for the right day to reclaim the Earth...

I don't think board2 cares that much about SMW hacks unless they have some really outstanding aspects.

As for Breath of Fire, I must say that listening to its music and not liking it has kept me from playing it so far (I use music as a criterion to decide whether a game is worth playing a lot). If everyone says it's worth it, I suppose I could give this a shot (though I still mostly prefer to at least add a self-educational effect into playing and go for the original Japanese version in such cases...).

Final Fantasy VI.
Awesome game, even more awesome with complete customability. There's a few hackers for it, but no level editor, and far as I'm aware of.

I think there was something which could edit the level tilemaps (but not much beyond that, unfortunately)...

Terranigma (SNES).
Secret of Mana (SNES).
Anno 1602 (PC).
potentially Guardian Legend (NES).

Do those count?

I was aiming for games around N64 and later, but it's not like that matters. They still count haha

The only N64-and-up console game I have played for a longer timespan was Chrono Cross, and I didn't like it too much...

Warcraft III (PC) might count, though I don't like it that much either...

Technically a breach of rules by all of you, but quite well played, sir, so I'll look over that one.

I think it would be more appropriate to completely shift this discussion over to the release thread - meaning this can be closed.

Since nothing seems to happen here anymore, I'll just take DC2.0's narrow victory as such and put it as default tomorrow unless any massive objections turn up.

Quite nice! For being as "retro" as an SMW hack could be nowadays (SMAS graphics and all), you sure went out of your way to avoid the usual graphical mishaps along the lines of nonmatching rounded cornerpieces of concrete bricks and what-not. The bush palette in the second screenshot could use some work, and I'd suggest replacing more of the backgrounds since you've obviously already replaced some and the 3bppish hills (and SMW's fog) somewhat negatively stick out.

The level designs, too, look sufficiently interesting; I'm looking forward to being able to try this out.

From quickly skimming Snes9x's code, I found the following relatively self-explaining routine pieces:

CalculatedSize = (totalFileSize / 0x2000) * 0x2000;

uint16 CMemory::checksum_calc_sum (uint8 *data, uint32 length)
{
uint16 sum = 0;

for (uint32 i = 0; i < length; i++)
sum += data[i];

return (sum);
}

uint16 CMemory::checksum_mirror_sum (uint8 *start, uint32 &length, uint32 mask)
{
// from NSRT
while (!(length & mask))
mask >>= 1;

uint16 part1 = checksum_calc_sum(start, mask);
uint16 part2 = 0;

uint32 next_length = length - mask;
if (next_length)
{
part2 = checksum_mirror_sum(start + mask, next_length, mask >> 1);

while (next_length < mask)
{
next_length += next_length;
part2 += part2;
}

length = mask + mask;
}

return (part1 + part2);
}

void CMemory::Checksum_Calculate (void)
{
// from NSRT
uint16 sum = 0;

if (Settings.BS && !Settings.BSXItself)
sum = checksum_calc_sum(ROM, CalculatedSize) - checksum_calc_sum(ROM + (HiROM ? 0xffb0 : 0x7fb0), 48);
else
if (Settings.SPC7110)
{
sum = checksum_calc_sum(ROM, CalculatedSize);
if (CalculatedSize == 0x300000)
sum += sum;
}
else
{
if (CalculatedSize & 0x7fff)
sum = checksum_calc_sum(ROM, CalculatedSize);
else
{
uint32 length = CalculatedSize;
sum = checksum_mirror_sum(ROM, length);
}
}

CalculatedChecksum = sum;
}

I enjoy putting in mathematical equations. Its fun to see it graph circles and give solution sets and such. Man, if I had this when we were doing conic sections in Algerbra 2...
I recommend using CASes like Maple to get the same thing done in a more versatile and fast manner.

And yeah, right when it first surfaced, I asked it for the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow. Its answer made sense; ever since that, I am contemplating starting to stock up on weapons for the machine uprising.
