people that whine about drinking haven't ever gone out drinking with friends

People who talk about the value of drinking with friends secretly wish for friends they could enjoy being around when sober too.

The initial rampage seems to have somewhat died down, perhaps thanks to the bans.

"It's all fun and games until..."

Bans as in "banned from the competition for today", i.e. disqualifications, not forum bans.

Though I'm now just trying to make a cheap escape from obviously having thought Kawa and Omi actually got warning bans.

Spelunky, lots and lots of An Untitled Story (around 51% now) and, recently, Touhou12's demo (I got to the stage 3 boss yesterday at least; I must say that so far it's building up to be the first Touhou game since 8 that feels like a real innovation over the predecessor... and the music is awesome too).

This is madness. Like hell I am going to play TF2, out of all games, against Ailure, who has played it nearly 24/7 for months now.

That would make it a cheap win, which is hardly any better than a cheap loss.

I take it you're a sore loser?

No, not quite that.

I just recognize that there's an amount of difference in skill at which death is immediate and permanent, and the game becomes not fun because you can not make a difference and might as well watch TF2 videos on Youtube.

Got it.

I just waited for the moment I'd get off the hook with writing italics in ICQ to switch from Trillian to Pidgin anyway... though time alone will tell how I feel about that tomorrow.

My owned PC games exclusively are back from a time where my 56k link made piracy impractical, or I was simply too young to have the *cough*criminal energy*cough*.

* Creatures
* Creatures 2
* Creatures 3
* Anno 1602
* Anno 1503

Then, there's a couple of SNES ones, though I don't vouch for this list being anything near complete (I'd need to go searching my cupboard... I'm actually relatively positive there should be more).

* Yoshi's Island
* Super Mario World
* Secret of Mana
* Lufia II
* Terranigma
* Sim City
* Sim City 2000

...or you just generally picked the wrong ROM to patch. There are many versions of the same games from different countries, or even of different minor revisions, floating around out there. What were you trying to patch and what to?

Did you just change the blank tile data that's stored somewhere in the ROM? The game probably updates both the tile IDs and the control bits of the tiles in question as it uploads updated tiles for the counters.

As for that rogue "0", I frankly have no idea. Bug in the tool you used?

This was not a particularly good bump. But whatever... can be overlooked.

I took the freedom to upload my local copy of STARSW here --> clicky

Hope that helps.

Basically bringing a topic that has fallen way down due to age back to the top position in the topic list by posting in it, especially if that post doesn't contribute much to the original discussion.

To spawn a new undercurrent in anything, you need patience before everything else. Months after you, surely somebody else will come up with the same idea and quit in frustration finding himself being the only one.

Nothing beats sitting at the computers all day and burning two calories per keystroke. It is the only exercise you will ever need.

Somewhat more end user friendly now.

I'm indecisive as to whether to link that file in the top bar or not, or to rename it to "kcs.php" or leave it as is (as in "active users (server day time blocks").

and fantastic graphics become a requirement of all newly produced games.

Isn't that what the gaming industry has convinced itself of and has been trying to make us believe since the early nineties? It's all basically a single LA LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU hymn of denial against how a single dedicated basement dweller can outperform their $n million budgets in a couple of years when it comes to producing something that is actually fun.

I don't think all but a narrow number of titles each year - which are mostly FPSes made for a handful of people who like to brag with what their computers can run - get stuck at the feasible hardware capability limit out of all of them. No matter how you look at it, this is going to require extremely broadbanded, low-latency connections and ultimately will cause more problems than it solves; the likelihood of this obsoleting powerful graphical hardware and locally-run games and becoming anything more than a niche entertainment bound for a commercial nosedive is considerably low as I see it.

Higher graphical capabilities are hardly a functional selling point at all anymore anyway, as the statistics of the latest round of console wars demonstrate effectively.

I could see this becoming a somewhat narrow market of its own for people who want to play some nicer games

Nicer-looking ones, you mean. If anything, the games are going to be worse because more of the budget will be allocated for pointless polygon polishing.

Also, I take it Wii is winning the console wars? I don't really keep tabs on it.

By a decent margin, last I checked. But then, I'm not really keeping tabs on it either.
