Pure OpenGL, no additional engines or libraries apart from Freetype2, FTGL (an OpenGL-friendly wrapper of the preceding) and an MSVC/Windows port of pthreads.

Not really. It hasn't been implemented yet in this build, I'm guessing. But it worked in the old Acmlm's Boards because it WAS implemented into them.

But it actually works in this build since some 12 hours ago! Have a look at the SMRPG forum.

And yes, what Trax said is completely true. There's only so much staff can do for the board being interesting if the users don't follow suit...

What is your definition of "way back then"?

An "Ikaruga" mode (your ship can alternate between 2 colors and enemy shots can be either color, opposite-color shots would affect you like normal shots would and same-color shots would get absorbed, and amplify the power of your shots. You can choose which color a weapons shots would be in the editor. You could also change an enemy part to either color or neutral, with opposite-colored parts taking double the damage from your shots than a neutral or same-colored part would.) would be awesomesauce.

The capability to have multiple bullet/effect colours on screen at once, rather than only being able to recolour everything, would be a great start.

I think Everything's Better With Spinning would apply for a lot of things. Also, as a most trivial one, Power Up.

How are you planning to "boost our membership" in that way though?

I have become guilty of resolving a "dropped item on the floor, big mess" incident in a department store by quickly getting away from the scene of the crime at least once for the frist person who finds it to clean it up. (But then, that was long ago...)
In an event like yours, I'd probably have stuck around donning a helpless smile or asking something like "is there anything I can help you with" while knowing well it would be their policy to answer no.

Old people, on the other hand... I guess it's sorts of a privilege of advanced age to bicker about and try to educate "young people these days" and contrast the present against an idealized memory of their own past "when everything was better". I remember witnessing some old guy going ballistic at a young woman eating a breadroll in the tram (nominally, food and drink are not allowed in them in Dresden, but it's actually more of a "if you get porridge all over our seats, we'll tell you to gtfo and don't say we didn't warn you" thing nobody really cares about anymore) and actually going as far as trying to drag her from her seat and push her out of the door at a stop, and vaguely remember a rainbow press article about a girl of 16 being beaten up by an old couple with walksticks to the point of having to be hospitalized for something like trying to push her way past them on the sidewalk.

The bullets and boxes are simple image textures; the player ships, (admittedly scarce) effects and everything else is made from coloured geometry. Sometimes (like in the case of green, "neutral" bullets), textures are combined in various ways.

How would shaders be of any use here anyway?

What part of it? The logic or the graphics thread? How much CPU time does it use?

(I vaguely remember some odd OpenGL issue where large textures made things extremely slow, but I didn't have any platform affected by it available for testing...)

Try replacing the huge background image with a black 16x16 bitmap (it's important that it's a power of two) and tell me if it changes anything.

Like with your previous projects, try reducing the contrast of the individual textures. It looks too funky like this, especially the water.

Try completely removing/renaming the BG image. Also try to see if moving the mouse cursor out of the window causes any meaningful changes to the performance (here, anything overlapping it causes a rough 10fps hit).

Something weird with pixel formats, perhaps? What's your desktop resolution and bit depth (24 or 32?)?

Since I don't have my program myself, this only leaves me wondering how much of it is true and how much is only internet prank/conspiracy theory/scare, and, if it is true, what the actual story behind this is... it would be awfully comedic if one part of their program blew the cover of another that was supposed to stay hidden.

Here's an Anubis analysis report of PIFTS.exe:

http://anubis.iseclab.org/?action=result&task_id=19d7659347c3ebcd4a5ba7e9faa60fa14&format=html

Looks to be collecting information from cookies, temp files, Internet Explorer, and recording searches in google and google desktop. Norton doesn't need to use these folders to see how many installations there have been, so why it's mining your search data/history and phoning home is anyone's guess.

Nice try, but I don't see where in the report it does that.

The only notable activity I can discover is it trying to screw around with the RAS manager (dialup-related stuff) and network settings in general. If that post and the subsequent drama is based off that report, the research that took place probably wasn't much more advanced than "it says temporary internet files here? OMG IT READS MY TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES AND SENDS THEM TO NORTON!!!!1!!!...I'll say it sends them to Microsoft too, for good measure".

I'll dismiss what I've seen so far as conspiracy theories.

(I wouldn't be surprised at all if the supposedly rootkit-protected folder it resided in actually just was hidden and the user who reported it didn't have display of hidden files turned on...)

Sending private data without one's consent, sure, but I see too many sparkly-eyed kids thinking they've stumbled upon a massive-scale industrial conspiracy to share their secret porn links collection with Microsoft being involved here.

Without having actually looked into it - I find the explanation that Norton tried to get their hands on some statistical data about customers' OS/patches/internet connection/whatever without asking and performed clumsily quite plausible. If I can be bothered to download IDA later (don't have my desktop machine here...), I'll look into it myself.

Can you please stop derailing the thread?

That especially goes for you, Arbe, with a special focus on trying to somehow reduce the debate to one about the debaters' sexuality.

I figured the sky would later be filltool-replaced by something easier to match up on the completed image anyway, like a gradient or a star texture...

I'll award Frog Coins to the monthly top 3, if this works out.

The only immediate effect of that I can think of is that you'll motivate KP9000 not to post too much.

Interesting take at mspaint graphics.

As for opinions on the gameplay itself, I need to play a bit further to be able to make qualified posts... for now, sleep.

-A GFX editor very similar to Tile Layer Pro and Lunar Magic's (which was based off of TLP). Once again, GFX pages can be saved to and loaded from external files.

They actually wrote "BG transfer area" into the tileset, and in a manner that could be outright considered pretty no less? That's quite a cute find.

Anyway, I commend your efforts on this. You are doing quite a nice job at replicating LM's interfaces (and the SMW hackers will thank you for it, undoubtely...) - are you using BC++ for writing it like FuSoYa did or some other compiler/programming language?disregard that, I just noticed the "C#" part.
