May I ask if you even know what that title you propose means?

You may, but we all know what it means. =D

That's a bad response. What do you think it means?

About 2 months of hard work, perfectionism, and diabolical thoughts on my part, but some cruelty on whomever plays the creation. The goal is simply to make a Kaizo version of SMRPG, which I will enjoy greatly.

You are dodging the question. What do you think is the meaning of that Japanese word you toss around so freely?

In the context, it essentially just means "hack", which is... a fairly silly title to give a hack made by people who don't speak Japanese.

Those SMW hacks you are referring to, too, mostly have a distinct proper name.

I suggest you stick to languages you know for things like that.

As far as suggestions for a "difficult/challenging" SMRPG hack go... difficult jumps between sparse moving platforms and conveyor belts over lava? Climbing up large hills packed with thwomps? Granted, SMRPG doesn't have anything near SMW's possibilities for implementing near-annoying difficulty on map level...

In retrospect, I was more surprised to see how early into its history the split happened. Around three thirds of the board's history would have taken place after the split by now.

I think the lowest we ever sunk was about 30 posts/day for that timespan... but yeah, the point stands.

I feel very disconnected from what the board administration is doing / planning / thinking.

You are too quick to assume that the board administration is doing/planning/thinking anything at all.
The closest things we have to an announcement system is the points-of-required-attention box and the frontpage's news window. Do you think using that to announce more board-related things would be sensible (rather than bringing back an equivalent of the old announcements.php)?

One of the problems that I believe lie at the base of what you described is that a lot of the "community", as in "sense of community", has shifted to IRC (granted, for the kind of speedy conversation that drives communities, at our scale, there is not much that can be done about it being the more efficient medium for that apart from shutting it down...) - that's where one is still most likely to get an idea of what staff is doing, too.

It would be better if they at least crammed the network install image full of anything one might need to actually get connected to the required network. I remember, back at my old residence, reinstalling my Debian system required me to get CD images each time because the only means I had of connecting that machine to the internet was an old WLAN card that only Windows drivers were available for, meaning I had to resort to using ndiswrapper... which was never included in the network install images. (And even with the CDs, I still had to carry over ndiswrapper and its requirements on USB flash disks because the actual package was nowhere near the low-numbered CDs)

Did you even really bother to read the post? Last I checked, they didn't suddenly start including that in netinst...

Hey, blacklul89?

Can't we make it mp3 instead of ogg?

Get a proper music player.

As for aurora.nsf, I can add it later.

He probably is referring to . That icon is put in place of the "new"/nothing in front of regular threads when the reply count exceeds a certain number (may or may not be 50, too lazy to look up); the filename should be enough of a spoiler for that.

Closing.

I completely understand what you mean but I'd like you to know I'm not the creator of the site. The2Banned2One is, but since he doesn't have an account here I decided to just be his voice.
He does, actually. Needless to say, his appearance was a good demonstration of how not to do it.

I quiet honestly knew nothing of the programs used to make either forum
Theirs just was registered at a garden-variety free-forum-for-you site.

but if you can make the arrangements to make this fraxy forum in particular, more organized etc. then that'd be great, and it'd save us all a lot of time.
Well, what kind of additional organization is required? At the current level of activity, the tagging system, if properly used, seems to provide a sufficient level of organization to things; correct me if I am wrong, but the addition of more sections at this point would just lead to the same content being stretched out over a larger amount of space, which, on its own, tends to bring forth a distinct atmosphere of tumbleweeds in the evening sun. This being meant not as criticism but as a "What could be done to combat this disorganization you perceive? I don't really see anything..." type of statement.

This and its referenced articles probably gives a better illustration of the whole "no information is being transferred faster than c" thing. I remember reading an article about either this or a very similar experiment in Scientific American quite a while ago.

Are the shopkeepers killable at all? Not even a flare headshot seems to have done much...

Also, I see damsels count as loot.

edit, This is even worse. :o

Well, excuse me for not expecting you to try making a serious point after everything, or being particularly wary of taking what you say without several grains of salt when you make an all-lowercase post again.

I do kind of see what you are getting at with the accusation of indistinguishability, though that doesn't mean I agree. It would appear to be a quite natural thing to become relatively blind to small differences between people as the difference between oneself and the two compared people becomes larger; while I know it not to be the case, I could have easily come to the same conclusion about, say, you, Legion and Yoshi Dude from the way you appear to be when I don't make an effort to understand you. There isn't much that I see as possible to do about it, either; considering how most in your list probably are about as interested to mingle with the 'indiscernable', 'no-personality' ones in mine as those in mine are interested in interacting with the 'indiscernable', 'no-personality' ones in yours, there simply is no such thing as a reason to maintain communication strong enough to maintain people's natural impulse to mix with their own kind.
It having functioned in some way in the past ultimately only means that the old community's already-heterogenized subsets drifted apart, something which is all but surprising considering the long history of splits and mutual detest.

I made one.

To quote myself,

Initially the product of a few maths classes of boredom, this is a vertically aligned, strictly offline 2-player, not overly configurable bullet hell shooter game; unlike in the typical games of the genre, like the Touhou series, your task is more comparable to that of a typical boss in how you have to shoot those intricate bullet patterns of hard-to-evade barrage - and make sure your opponent gets hit before you.
In case you wonder about the name... in its very first version, the game was single-player rather than multiplayer; instead of shooting at anything, you just had to dodge bullets coming from an ever-increasing amount of the yellow [ ] spots. Eventually, you got hit and greeted by a huge full screen message of "YOU FAIL".

As of 2009-03-05, with a proper user interface of sorts added, configurable controls and lots of polishing here and there, this could be considered somewhat of a formal release. For further information, consult the included readme.txt file.

Screenshots (can be clicked for size++):

Site: here / Direct download: here.

At the present, this only can be played by two players sitting at the same machine (or, very suboptimally, one of them VNCing in with a very fast connection - that's assuming modern VNC implementations allow combining both keyboard signals).

If there is demand, I can look into implementing a proper network mode or an AI.

Feedback is welcome.
