I looked through my old ToS folders and tried to make some sense out of my hacks.

I did weird things.

A good next thing to be done would be writing up some stock enemy sprite code to populate the levels we have.

Sorry, but pure requests are frowned upon here. With that said, even if they weren't, I doubt anybody would want to do actual work for one of the hundreds who say they are going to make a hack somewhere every month.

Closed.

  • #65 can be called to trigger the springboard animation. Not sure what this does for any other sprite, but with springboards, you should call it before doing whatever you actually want the board to do (warping somewhere).

I successfully tested it with both #99 and #100.

Things I'd like to see:
- hotlinks of sorts from the NPC selector to the event viewer
- better layout in places (Why is the level startup event/BGM ID hidden in the event field part?)
- improvements to the tilemap editor (allowing to set priority bits, mirroring etc. above 8x8 tile basis)
- floodfill, rectangle paint etc. functions
- rotating the view at least for physical field display

That's it from today's experimentation.

Moved to ROM hacking.

As for the content, it's always surprising what kind of things surface on the internet, especially considering how even SNES music hacking was considered close to a wizardly thing until addmusic hit the western SMW hackers.

While I have yet to go far beyond the first world, I must say I am rather impressed at your level design and usage of the original graphics. I'd take this over the pretty stockpatched hacks SMWC throws out at a fast pace any day...

The event #15 part in the "level properties" should be the root of the problem. I experienced the same before when I changed around the exact same map; that event doesn't take removal of the enemy NPCs well.

We should organize some sort of math competition. From what I've seen, it's a great way to get the community together and have fun.

Has beendone before, both in the referenced threads and some others before them. I think a somewhat IOI-style programming competition (with simpler tasks, of course) would find more potential competitors here, especially if we allow the "softer" languages like PHP too.

8. It bitwise-ORs the accumulator with the parameter. OR is a logic operator that is true (1) whenever one of the two inputs is true(1) and false(0) otherwise, i.e. bitwise-OR of 100010 and 001100 would be 101110.

7. Yes. Depending on whether you want Mario's sprite or any enemy sprites, you can check for some special value that the Y velocity is set to when he's standing on firm ground (It might have been -10, but I don't really remember anymore...) or Idunno.

6. A word parameter, i.e. 16 bits rather than 8. It's actually the same opcode as the byte LDA, but the assembler doesn't have a reliable way to determine whether a piece of code has the 16-bit A flag set at execution time, (cf. computability theory...) so it needs an additional cue as to whether write one or two bytes as the immediate value.

5. How is the frame counter "random"? It counts up by one every frame...

4. Not sure what you mean there.

3. Whenever you want to insert a piece of code that manipulates the accumulator between two pieces of previously present code where the piece before which you insert your code requires the accumulator state from the piece after which you insert it.

2. I don't remember.

1. As in you want to write something else to the address? Ensure the accumulator (A) is preserved, then LDA(.B, .W) #$(somevalue), STA $(the location you previously STZed to).

Well then maybe I'm doing something wrong(I'm trying to make it to where a sprite erases itself in a certain ammount of frames, but it always seems to range from 1-5 seconds. Does it count the frames when on the overworld too?)

As boing said, the frame counter can be at pretty much any position when your sprite is created; additionally, it wraps around after frame 255 (being a single byte and everything), i.e. the longest interval you can measure using the frame counter alone is a bit over 4 seconds in NTSC. And even for measuring <=4 seconds reliably, you'd need to store the position of the frame counter at the creation of the sprite in some location uniquely identifiable with the sprite and check the difference between that stored byte and the frame counter.

I'm not liking it much at all.

http://www.a3share.com/members/1119/yychrnew.PNG - i just hope it won't look like this on the english version in the future.

**There's a ton of empty blank space on the main windows on the left and right side
** The buttons on the far right are all cut off.
** The whole entire program window is not resizeable anywhere at all period
** If i click on any of that blank space, an error pops up:
http://www.a3share.com/members/1119/error.PNG
** The whole program constantly keeps refreshing every time you click anywhere, reminds me of the old fceuxd 0.98 where the memory viewer and debugging windows refreshed so damn much that it was impossible to click anything.

It's very buggy to be honest.

http://rafb.net/p/77s5D841.html and here's a pretty good assumption of the 0.99 updates readme

The dialog layout and all the problems connected to it are purely a problem stemming from the dialogue layout not working quite well with English locale. This is what it looks like when applocaled to ShiftJIS.

Are you, by any chance, on some Unixoid system? I remember this happening when I tried using Ubuntu's Firefox3 packages with Debian testing (which, at that time, didn't have them); the XULRunner package of Debian, though, misreported its own version, leading to said bug. I solved that by looking up some configuration file of XULRunner and manually editing the version it reports up...

edit: cf. that thread I posted about it

Unix-like. Like Linux, FreeBSD or Macintosh.

Either way, chances are good that my solution works on Windows as well; you'll just have to find the analogous configuration file for XULRunner.

The name "board2" makes it look like a side-kick to that website

You just hurt my feelings.

I'm not against a name change, but I haven't heard any suggestions that I'd consider particularly worthwhile so far. I'm not sure if "kafuka", with all its weeaboo connotations, is really the right choice; besides, the domain belongs to Emuz and we'd have to ask him about permission first and there is that whole issue with physical control of the domain currently being with ||bass and everything.

Came for the SMW hacking. Stuck around first for the SMW hacking, then for the social interaction, then out of a sense of duty/hardheadedness, now for the social interaction again.

At some point into the stick-around-because-leaving-would-be-admitting-defeat part of it, I guess I also enjoyed this whole planning/scheming/running things/manipulating people, in a way, aspect of it.

Two to three litres of Coca-Cola and another litre of iced coffee a day. Certain observations have led me to believe that I'm not only hooked on the caffeine but also on the sugar by now.
