Do you post this on every internet forum you know, or are just we the ones doomed to have the honour with you?

Needless to say, I'm shit-canning this.

I'm glad I graduated from school in a somewhat ordered and not completely catastrophic manner.
I'm glad I decided temporarily enrolling at a university instead of bridging the year with a low-wage programming job. I wound up meeting a lot of interesting people that way while essentially being enabled to spend the whole time slacking.
I'm glad about a few small decisions with great impacts here and there.

Googie, you did well to leave that relationship. Next time, look for somebody you can communicate with using proper English.
Honestly, that was painful to read.

No, [protagonist], you are the demons.

I must say this was quite awesome, if somewhat short.

Anyone notice how you can shortcut through the maze right before the end of world 8 by standing on one of the bush tiles and waiting for it to evert into a phase when it's solid? You'll be transported way to the top of the screen and can just walk out.

Crazy Americans and their obsession with weaponry.

With all the fancy gadgets everyone is building, the next large war is going to be an ugly thing...

It would be appreciated if you could post some screenshots, particularly of the new features.

Are the "tweaked features" done with some kind of editor (I'm really not familiar with what is possible and available in the SM hacking scene...) or with good old hard assembly?

I think he did "provide a specific reason not to" ("Screenshots would look the same as the original game, so it would be boring to see.").

However, with what was said, I wonder if there really was enough interesting change to make this hack worth a look at all...

I can't rid myself of the impression that the only way in which SMW hacking evolved over the years is that instead of SMAS graphics, everyone uses the web2.0y "redrawn" graphics sets that circulate on SMWC nowadays.

Your overworld looks too blocky. Try using some other design element than straight lines and rectangles. Nature does not even remotely work in that way, and it sticks out.

The title screen, apart from using the native fonts in a less-than-optimal way, appears cheaply done and the text isn't really well centered to boot.

The palette in the second screenshot is rather awful. While lacking diversity, the contrasts are too sharp, making the graphics look, in the lack of a better word to describe it, "cheap".

On the upside, you seem to have spent some time writing the story (though not bothering to doublecheck the grammar and spelling...).

Try using some more original graphics and generally putting more time and critical iterative improvement into the hack.

Well, this explains the crap quality of the recent games. The question is, what will happen to the Sonic franchise in the US if Sonic Team USA goes down the toilet?

The Japanese will pick it up and we'll get Sonic with spiky hair and absurd superpowers...
...
...
oh wait.

Yeah. Regarding the whole -monkey thing, the only usage I could think of is "codemonkey", and that has been in common use for ages without experiencing anything like a usage spike as far as I can tell.

In the end, the reason for its inclusion will have been something like some kid from some obscure community like ours deciding to complain about the latest silly fad around there, the commission compiling the list googling for "monkey" and being overwhelmed by the number of google hits to a sufficient degree to include it.

As far as <3 goes, I think the best solution, at least from a mathematical point of view, would be as follows...

"<4. It might be more than just love."

Some, by no means exhaustive, notes on the intro narrative...

"Stealing your blueprints of X,was not my true intention"
The comma in there is out of place. A space would do; if you want to convey a small break in speech, an ellipsis would do the job in a more correct manner.
Several "your"s in that dialogue also should be replaced with "you're". On the other hand, I'm fairly positive there should be a comma after "How dare you call me by my first name" and "prepare to die".
Did that just read "what has spoken to him by beta X"?
"This by far," --> "This, by far," - or, better yet, move the "by far" beyond the "will be".
"Fight Megaman!" or "Fight, Megaman!" after all?

Compared to the surprising easiness of the first level, Chill Penguin is extremely hard even by Megaman standards. However, the BGM on him just seems not quite ... tense enough for a boss, while, on the other hand, not being relaxed enough for creating an artsy mood dissonance effect either.

The hacking and graphics work is, needless to say, top notch.

What kind of baby name is "Tristan"? They might as well name their kid Vlad or Frankenstein.

Other than that, congratulations on becoming an authority figure the indirect way.

when we are old then noobs will come and become experts eventually adding new power-ups to SUPER MARIO GALAXY and crazy stuff like. that right now is nearly impossible even with the right tools.

Quite frankly, I think that gaming is developing in a direction where ROM hacking as we got to know it won't be possible. Even without the whole casual gaming block that's not even worth the effort, the gap between what a person with a home computer can do and what the large software houses can throw out every two months is getting larger. One might be tempted to describe it as some sorts of neolithic revolution of game development - as it is now, too many aspects of modern games require a level of ability to imitate or adequately substitute that you'll hardly find a single person to have mastered even two of them at a sufficient level; meanwhile, if anything, we got worse at teamwork over the years.

Life isn't about going up or down. Everyone is going forwards. Tragedy is, no-one is going in the same direction.

Coming to think of it, Douglas Adams' Sperm Whale[1] was an awfully appropriate metaphor for life...

Looking back at the above post, I wonder just how pathetical I am going to be once it's actually an age-appropriate trait for me.

For ||bass to have Evangelion posters on his walls... I'm kind of surprised. Not even I have quite reached that stage yet.

I always thought that having more vertical rather than horizontal space would be much more useful for programming though... in that sense, the whole 16:9-and-beyond video hype is rather counterproductive.

From the looks of it, I think those blocks are from the Wily stages in Megaman 3. Not sure, but I don't think your graphics are custom. Sorry.

If you mean the blocks in the second half of that video, they have a way different texture to boot... at most, one might say the general idea was the same.
