Judging from the section, I'd assume he came up with it on his own.

This sounds like something you'd sing with a smoky voice while accompanying yourself with a western guitar by a campfire in one of those old cowboy movies...

Nice observation.

I'll trash this.

One, if you wake up in the morning and "smell like crap", go take a shower instead of trying to cover it up.

Two, the "natural scent containing information" thing is largely independent from the malodorous aspects of sweat. The typical "sweaty smell" is caused by bacterial decay of protein in your sweat, which doesn't say much about the state of your body itself at all anyway; sweat has no recognizable smell while it's "fresh". From what I recall, deodorants work mainly by containing chemicals that denaturate some of the proteins in question (cf. the effect of fried eggs solidifying), effectively clogging the sweat glands.

What it effectively comes down to is that, in modern societies, the effect all potentially functional on a biochemical/subconscious level pheromones in your sweat might have is utterly undone by the profoundly bad impression you'd leave on a conscious level if you smell like a goatbuck.

The least thing I want to wind up doing is some programming job that only serves to advance the aims of some corporate entity above me. If life was to be lived as some kind of money-collecting high score game, I'd be predestined to lose anyway, so I don't really see a reason to push myself to do something that earns me additional money I don't need.

At the moment, I'm fully intent on continuing to climb the academic ranks after I complete my BSc (Master's, PhD...) and proceed on a carreer of academic research, ideally discovering something more or less groundbreaking or at least useful in the process. Alternatively, I could imagine putting my programming and analytical skills in the service of something of overarching importance like a spaceflight programme, kicking off the technological singularity out of spite or biochemical/physical/whateversmallthings related research.

If I throw away the last grain of realism and treat on not-all-that-serious ground, I can totally see myself as some kind of Gendou Ikari figure 50 years from now.

Re: "settled on their final career choice in life", in the rough words of somebody (I think Richard Branson, but I can't find the needed citation), "If you have fulfilled all your ambitions in life, you didn't set them high enough."

The smell of rotten pork brains is starting to expand into other forum sections.

It's about time this thread gets disposed of.

Whoever wins, we win.

It's either the satisfaction that the country with the most military power managed to elect a more or less sane person, or the schadenfreude and point-and-laugh amusement of it not having managed to.

"Your natural scent contains a thousand pieces of information about you, hormone levels, general health, whether you've been exercising in the last few hours .. and for thousands of years, that was how women chose a man.
It's highly illogical to think something like this. If human noses were so powerful then we'd be on leashes of other humans tracking down human prisoner escapees. I believe (through logical thinking) that it's all done with the brain. The opposite sex's thoughts about you (or someone) are affected by a crapload of variables such as how the brain developed, lifestyle, culture, and a ton of other things. A woman might think you're hot and want you to do some bonage, but will probably never consider it due to your/her social status.

Having receptors for certain chemicals that only trigger a subconscious response does not equal a particularly keen conscious sense of smell, either.

What "other board"? I could think of at least three "other boards" you could be referring to.

Anyway, welcome.

Though I haven't got far yet, I must say I'm very impressed by what I've seen. But yeah, I have to second Dr. Hell's observation about the jumps - or one-pixel jumps in general, as also seen in the room below the one with the second codeword letter. It's all too easy to slip and painfully land on the rear end of the bottom grue.

Standard: Somewhat too bright, to the point of lacking contrast between the table header pieces and the white text on them. Somehow bland, too, but it might be because I never liked that shade of blue.
Alternate: Overloaded, too heavy textures, hard on the eyes.
KP9k's schemes: Miner's Lament is quite good, followed by Blue Storm (a tad too oversaturated).
Acid: Not bad-looking, but not feeling like an Acmlmboard scheme at all. Plus the smaller font setting interacts with my own option to somewhat downscale the fonts (68, so as to undo the boardwide font enlarging Xk pulled at some point) to make some pieces of text too small.
Daily Cycle: Nostalgic and clean, sure, but having the whole board rendered in Arial just doesn't feel good anymore...
Fragmentation: My personal favourite. Dark hues of blue that contrast to text nicely, sufficiently subtle but still interesting textures.
Desolation: Not bad, but I find the transparency of the table cell backgrounds to be a bit too high.

As far as I am concerned, I do.

As a European, I don't care about it anyway - but I probably wouldn't do so as an American either, since I find the notion of "dying for one's country" retarded and that of "dying for the jingoist interest of some ideology-oriented nutcases happening to be in control" even more so.

I could also link to a "POST YOUR COCK LOL ^________^" thread on 4chan /b/ that maxed out, but I think you get my point about why your point is invalid.

Just wanted to throw this out here.

Fullmods and up can send songs further back in the queue to the slot of the next to be played, etc; more functions will follow.
