One, it's not "Acmlm's Board 2" anymore really... Two, are you trying to make a point by making the banner look like it's 1999 too? Needs moar Web 2.0.

edit: There's really no necessity to apologize for something as minor as calling somebody's habit "sad".

I just beat Yume Nikki (see free game sticky) two days ago - it was good, in the odd way -; also, I played Densetsu no Ogre Battle for a bit when Cirvante mentioned it, though I don't think I am going to keep going.

Also, I'm slowly making my way through the Japanese version of Terranigma/Tenchi Souzou, but I seem to only be playing it on the train anymore.

Read it, then read it again.

Then read this for good measure.

There's really no reason to close this thread, be the video credible or not.

I've heard of it, but I don't have a PS3. In fact, something tells me that not very many people here have a PS3.

"Five hundred and ninety-nine US dollars! Five hundred and ninety-nine US dollars! Five hundred and ninety-nine US dollars!" might be one of the reasons.

Care to elaborate on what kind of game it is anyway?

Would you prefer if I, instead of telling you to reform your posting style to something more worth the DB space with the friendly not-so-subtle hints that deleted posts are, just dumped ban requests for you in S/A/O silently every time you post that kind of crap?

Your notion of "activity" seems to not include any notion of quality. If that kind of activity was desirable, we could just as well make "COUNT DOWN FROM 1000 LOL" threads.

It's an old banner from a fad Emuz forced.

It's a Japanese word meaning "overload" (過, read ka, meaning over/excess/exceed, 負荷, read fuka, being "load"/"burden").

I think he just picked it for being rather obscure, though I don't know many details about its history at all.

Back in his days, he named all kinds of things after that, including an SMW hack he had in the making together with DJ Bouche.

Ubuntu normally mounts all your partitions by default. Try double clicking the partitions in question in the file manager (Places -> Computer).

Be warned that NTFS is safe to read from linux but writing to an NTFS drive from linux is still underdevelopment, even though it has been developed quite nicely.

What are you living in, 2004? It's perfectly safe to write to NTFS.

According to the NTFS-3Gwebsite, it wasn't safe until 2007.

Which is, seeing how we live in 2008, perfectly in accordance what he said... or am I missing out something here?

Either way, I've used ntfs-3g for quite a while as a high-load storage driver since I share my data partition between the preinstalled Vista and Debian on my Linux box and never experienced any problems with it, other than somewhat annoying messages prompting me to use Windows' chkdsk when it leaves the disk in a flagged-unclean state.

The same, apparently, though we only got about two and a half hours of downtime.

If this happens another time, I'll ask them to swap the hardware again.

Another one... however, hopefully, the underlying problem is fixed for good now.

Moving to H/S/B since it's more fitting there.

As for the quotes/code, you should use scoped CSS with !important. I'd give you a more detailed explanation but I want to go afk for a bit before it turns completely dark here.

Sorry, but I think that naming convention reeks of Java and doesn't look at all.

Though, if I was to code anything relevant, it probably would wind up as ++lol.

Not any more useless than having operator++ when you can go "a=a+1" is to begin with.

Think while(*ptr) sendchar(*(ptr++));; with a prefix-++, you would skip the character ptr points at initially.

Well, the amount of Landfill posts is because knuck's "Mormons" trolling thread attracted many replies...

We totally should integrate that smiley into the board. What code could be used for it?

I wouldn't discount the possibility of a main site contributing to activity, it's just that you have to make a point out of actually providing something other similar sites don't with it.

What we really do need is people who hold stakes with the board consequently including it in their feedback loop. Found some IT topic with potential concern to members of the community on Slashdot? Post about it! As it is now, I all to often come to a point where I'd feel like posting but don't see any recent thread I could contribute anything constructive to. I can imagine others coming into the same situation too; the ways that lead out of this, not posting or posting a pointless reply without actually having anything to say, both seem undesirable.

Article

So apparently, a group of self-reportedly Greek hackers broke into a part of the LHC-related computer network. The people in those weird countries really have nothing better to do... I doubt they really could cause anything fatal besides lost data, or, if they actually could cause something "bad" with specific input, would have the knowledge to construct it, but for such an expensive project, the security really appears questionable.

It also would be really odd if they made the actual controlling machines accessible from the internet in some way.

Thoughts?

The most basic approach would be putting your posts in a block wrapper (like a border- and margin/spacingless table or a DIV) belonging to a certain class ("<div class='rawr'>" in header, "</div>" in footer) and defining elements like blockquote as children of that class (".rawr blockquote { ... }") in the CSS. Compare Squash Monster's layout code, where squashlayout is the container's class.

The blockquote is the, normally, invisible layout element that causes quotes to be indented. The "visible part of the quotebox" is two HRs at its top and bottom. Look at the source to learn about it.

A "dark-light-dark" border as in three borders in something like a arrangement? The only trivial way I could think of would be wrapping three tables with a one-pixel border around it, or alternatively a single one with images of the border pieces. Nothing too trivial, anyway.

I suggest you read some garden variety CSS/HTML tutorial first.
