I, for my part, am one of those people who started coming to the internet so they could escape from those very people that are now flooding into it in masses, motivated by the possibility of uploading the latest cellphone pictures of themselves shirtless and drunk on their profiles.

image

I'm a cog in the large ad-hoc machinery painting the undisputable changes the internet goes through in a negative light and I enjoy every second of that existence.

Even if they don't come here themselves, they do bring their elementary school siblings who are susceptible to the fantasy of sticking it into Sonic's pixelated rear end a bit too much along.

Different crowd, and anyway, perversion was certainly abundant on the internet during "the early days"

Not my problem with them. It's just that a certain subset of the Sonic fankids is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of large groups of stupid people in ROM hacking communities that can be grouped by a common trait.

Besides, what's so bad about melodramaticism? Just because life is a stale and uneventful POS that will eventually work out somehow no matter how much one would wish it not to, you don't have to represent it as such.

I'm a little confused here, you don't want life to work out? I think I get the gist of what you're saying though, and I'm just sayin you're fooling yourself by assigning blame for all your problems (or whatever you're upset about) on those unbearable "socially active" people.

You're jumping to conclusions there. What I am saying is that life is just much more interesting when things blow up.

summary: why you so upset just cause some fool uploaded a pic of himself drunk somewhere on the internet

Because all his friends then get AOL to get online and see that picture or contribute one of themselves.

And then, what happens to your own personal internet?

It's just as natural as being upset over the social interaction of a bunch of high school dropouts having an alcohol-intensive party outside your house with some of them vomiting into your window or passing out on your front porch every now and then.

Yes, but there's no difference between "[the street] outside my house" and "the internet", on which the "house" - be it mine or somebody else's, since it would be perfectly natural to share the same discontent with the social interaction if it happens in proximity while you are visiting somebody else - could be equalled to whatever community - forum, IRC channel or whatever - I frequent, in that respect.

The problem is that, in real life, distance shields me from the bulk of those people, while on the internet, even the furthest are not more than a 400ms walk away.

I didn't vote. Does that make me a bad person?

Yes.

You can atone for this by sending $50 to the server hoster.

Sorry for the confusion potentially sparked by the seemingly "random" post deletions. The posts in questions were a lengthy and pointless exchange between an increasingly erratic, shouting with multiplied capital letters MEME and a playing along for too long Kawa.

What did you draw it with?

Regardless, this isn't half bad and surely a welcome departure from the overwhelming number of manga style imitations.

Secret of mana Kicks Ass But its the plot is too confusing so I never played that game in a while and the part I was last on was when I got Flammie

I really can't understand how one could find SoM's plot confusing. Among all the RPGs I know, it has one of the most trivial ones.

Also, can you do something about your grammar? Your capitalization, at times, looks like you just 1d2 to determine whether to start the next word with a capital letter.

The addmusic toolchain built around SMW's native music format allows for importing MIDIs, though everything past that point is a bit awkward to handle.

Also, this. I might actually get over myself and start having people do beta tests one of these days...

I don't know the ins-and-outs of the whole situation, but the way I see it, if Arbe had revealed to the admins the holes he found, I'd say there would be no reason to ban him in the first place. He never caused any major damage with Admin power, and doesn't even have to potential to as a normal user...

Except he never actually found any holes. He just had Alastor give him access to Cirvante's account and screwed around with a handful of users and threads, then proceeding to pass the access to Legion.

Before that, he exploited an internal leak to obtain the board source code and literally hand it out to half the internet.

If you ask me, he was the by far best riddance we had in a while.

And if it's not specifically him, who else do you mean? MEME?

This sure is an unorthodox approach (though a similar thought crossed my mind in a different context long ago, I dismissed it quickly) and it's interesting to see you have been successful with this to some degree.

How well does your implementation cope with lagged (non-localhost) connections like you typically have them in proper internet-based play?

If you can't go for the possibility of selecting between both, go for the networking. In practice, the probability of finding another person to play something like this with is much higher on the internet than it is in real life.

Man, you don't know what you're missing. You should look for some online...

Who in their right mind buys pop on the internet.

Someone once sold over 120 pounds of dehydrated chicken via ebay - Soda seems relatively mild compared to that.
Although I suppose with rising gas prices it wouldn't be very efficient to ship.

This makes me think of how, at some point in its history, Soviet Russia bought up a large amount of frozen chickens that were due to expire from the USA's strategical reserves. While left in their frozen state, they looked flawless, but had the reputation of melting down to pulp or porridge when unfrozen.

Good point, but I actually see it opposite. For me, the probability of someone waiting on an empty server for another player to connect is low, after all it is F-Zero not Quake or Warsow etc so there aren't going to be that many players. But atleast with the non-networked play, you can have a group of friends come over...

...and play in localhost networking all the same. It's not like, for netplay, you just turn your server on and wait for somebody connecting at random; netplay sessions typically are organized by previous agreement which can be reached via IRC, ICQ, AIM or whatever other messaging system there is, at minimal expense.
Expect most people who are still interested in F-Zero in the year 2008 to spend most of their time at the computer anyway and being much easier to motivate to connect to somebody on the internet in a few clicks than to go outside and visit a friend who coincidentally still likes the game as well.

Just a tweaked Clearlooks theme, it's not too bad I think.

Not half bad, no. Out of pure curiosity (not that I'd consider getting anything like that myself...), what are you using for the pseudo-Mac OS X icon bar at the bottom?

Since we are talking about Linux desktop themes, screenshot get. Don't mind all the weeaboo stuff on there; since my Linux machine is the only one with larger amounts of free HD space left, I've been using it as a repository to relocate those things to in order to liberate some space on the main one.

That image is scaled down in a rather unpleasant manner.

Also, while the shading and everything on the cars is decent, the ground and environment clearly lacks detail to a very large extent.

If you want visual effects on your UI so badly, use WindowBlinds - I think it's not as resource hungry as Vista, and you can spare yourself the rest of the bloat and unlikeable developments of it.

She? That's awesome. All my friends were guys. Lucky bastard.
Where I grew up, there was a huge lack of boys. So most people in the elementary school were girls.

Back when I was in elementary school, there was this girl that came over for playing SNES games at times.

She overwrote my last-level savestate in Secret of Mana.

I was mad.
