First, you load a ROM and go to editors->overworld editor window.

Then, it depends on what extent you want to edit the overworld to. The simplest parts, for sure, are the static ones; for that, there are the 8x8 tile editing mode (the 16x16 "hill with eyes" icon in the toolbar of the overworld editor; the 8x8 layer is essentially the "underlying graphics", i.e. the ground, water, hills, slopes, walls and what-not) which essentially is operated in a similar manner to how you move around objects in the level editor, except the separate objects are of a fixed 1x1 size and base tiles are 8x8 rather than 16x16, the 16x16 tile editing mode (ghost house icon) which is about things like level tiles, castles or ghost houses (which are special level tiles) and, most importantly, mario paths (which are invisible tiles that control the paths on which you can walk over the overworld; press 9 to make a visualization of them visible) - that mode also allows you for editing the level tiles you placed by holding Alt and right-clicking them (the settings available should be mostly self-explaining) - as well as the sprite editing mode, which is of sufficiently low importance to not deserve an explanation.

Apart from that, there also are overworld events; they essentially control how your overworld changes upon completion of levels. You can edit the modification of the 16x16 and 8x8 layer respectively by pressing the variants of the respective toolbar tiles which have an explosion-like flash overdrawn and selecting the event you want to edit with the pageup/pagedown buttons (watch your statusbar closely) then proceeding to draw 8x8 or 16x16 tiles like you would in the regular mode. Of course, there are some peculiarities to that, but that should be the process in the nutshell (not like you couldn't have found all of this out in the help file...)

Yakibomb: Flat "go there instead" posts like that are strongly discouraged, not to say borderline advertisment, considering this is an SMW hacking section after all. Besides, there are some people in SMW hacking too who wish to seek refuge here from the abundant and near-unconstrained stupidity of the masses of that place.

In what manner didn't it work? Crash? Wrong graphics? Wrong behaviour?

Either way, (3) is a possibility if it is supposed, like SMB2's Mouser, to throw bombs. Read the documentation that came with a sprite.

Regarding (2), what exactly would distinguish a custom boss from a regular enemy sprite in your eyes?

Concerning (1), there's typically comments on the extra info configuration, if any, in the assembly source comments.

Chrome-based Firefox plugins (which is what Chatzilla is, wasn't it?) always yielded an extraordinary ammount of CPU usage and general Firefox lag for me... as far as multi-IM clients' IRC support goes, I found it to be insufficient in Trillian's and GAIM's case, though I don't know about Trillian's.

I do really consider mIRC a great piece of software as far as being stable and supporting stuff you need goes, though its encoding support is, admittedly, comparatively weak and the proprietariness brings bad karma...

HydraIRC seemed like it had some potential back in the days, but I think it's proprietary as well. Linux users love Xchat, but I all but share their enthusiasm. irssi is nice for a command-line client, but, yeah, command-line.

Just write your own.

FYI, I can't agree with Ailure's sentiment. I think the semi-realistic greyscale background vs. the plastic-looking FG and the saturated green with saturated yellow items vs. shades of grey each make awesome-looking contrasts.

Keep it like that by all means if you ask me.

More quantity than quality would come.

On the topic of quality, the two main sources of that (or remaining "living cells of the board", I'm almost urged to say) appear to be the two hacking forums and Programming. Instead of silly and low-quality mass-posting events, we should concentrate on supporting those two with constructive posting.

I wonder if they used machine translation or somebody who actually knew the language but wasn't provided sufficient context for the Russian text. (for instance, "A friendship is forged" was translated assuming the "document forgery" sense of the word while this is obviously not what is meant)

Either way, nice, though I've seen far better installments of the same basic idea before.

ExGFX insertion and, thanks to sprite tool, sprite insertion are both awfully easy things to include, and if you can't get something like that figured out, you probably should stay off hacking. Contrary to the sentiment lately arising in some communities, hacking isn't about point-and-clicking levels in a fancy graphical editor after reading heaps of tutorials, but about figuring things out on your own.

As for the most widespread assembly hacks, I believe those are most commonly distributed as IPS patches anyway. Then, something like LevelASM won't be much use to you yet...

This is like calling tech support for a company and the representative tells you that you're a dummas.

It isn't, unless you start paying this forum or force us into some kind of contract.

Yes I just want to point and click and so other people wants to.

Assuming that's a "too"... well, that's still not called "hacking".

I don't get why such a simple question comes into such an assle in this forum.

Mostly because questions like that are being asked way too often, seemingly stemming from the sentiment that a hacking forum was a place for nursing "lost case" beginners.

I don't want to insult anybody but I wasnt forcing you to give me any, only asking if there was already something out, for the 4th time.

...which makes it hardly appropriate to open up a thread for it; though I am aware it's not a 100% topic match, it would much rather belong in here.

Other than that, all I can recommend is that you stick to your own ability level with modifying SMW or at least show some degree of own initiative (which would also make it much more likely that people are willing to help you out with the more difficult parts). "I'm giving my best to learn, can you give me a bit of a hand?" works better than "Can you do everything for me? I can't be bothered". Not many appreciate "putting on another's laurels" (is there even an equivalent idiom in English? ).

What NightKev said. There wouldn't even be a way the SNES could take so many sprites on screen at once.

Closing.

I dunno, I always found KFC's chicken rather tasty (though still no match to, for instance, WienerWald - which probably isn't known outside of Germany and Austria though).

Although I eat fast food a lot, I've only ate an actual burger once and didn't like it. The cheese was weird and the meat had no taste of its own whatsoever. (McDonalds)

The font is somewhat hard to read.

For reference's sake, I'll link the particular specimen Kawa cited (which is a half-day experiment on parsing module files into bullet hell levels) and the latest sample of the original game based on that engine, being kind of unplayable on non-German keyboards thanks to the keyboard configuration (page about it).

Back on the topic of this game, interesting enough approach, but if you are going for vertical scrolling, you should make the view higher than broad or at least square; it seems to make more sense from a gameplay point of view in my experience.

The only forum section I can consider appropriate for this is the trash can.

Seriously, this isn't a forum for requests, and if Google doesn't know, I'd presume nobody here does either. Besides, if you need it so badly (stock response get), do it yourself.

Well, a game's title is the first thing people are going to see of it. Seeing that kind of sloppiness in making that up, it's perfectly reasonable to assume it carries on for the rest of it as well.

I'm going to give it a shot anyway, just telling you what impact these supposedly minor things can have.

I remember somebody else saying that he made an SMW hack as a college thesis long ago, but I'm not sure enough as to who it was anymore that I could name anyone... there's no way something like that would work at a European university anyway, unless you went some lengths to implement something that would have enough merit as a project in its own right into SMW ("Efficient traveling salesman problem solving over SMW overworlds!"). What exactly is it you have in mind?

Either way, welcome. (edit: Also, this )
