While I wouldn't recommend getting into VB when you can learn C/C++, if you need to, Mono is a free software implementation that is worth having a look into.

As an update on plans and developments,

it was constituted in several conversations between staff that the graphical firepower of the SuperFX chip is indispensable to us.

However, while NoA's snesdev manual states a mapping for SuperFX games that allows a total of up to 8MB worth of memory to be used, practically, the largest released SuperFX games were 2MB in size, which is a scale at which the mapping barely differs from LoROM; as a consequence of that, neither Snes9x nor ZSNES implement the larger mappings, which might yield some trouble space-wise.
After some conversations with various people including a ZSNES developer, it boiled down to 2 options:
- stick to 2MB or
- attach our own custom emulator builds supporting the mapping to the hack release.
Despite nearly all voices heard being somewhat in favour of the latter, it seems like a hack, so we shall see where we get with the "small" ROM at first; for that reason, also, the ROM map was created.

base ROM refitted to 2MB

The shading still seems illogical. If your light comes from the top left as highlights and common practice imply, the shadows should take more space on objects' right and bottom sides.

Most hacks nowadays have enough stuff in them that it's impossible to keep it at 2MB, though. D:

Yeah, that's definitively a concern... however, unlike most hacks nowadays, we actually have a good deal of people who actually know what they are doing rather than mindlessly applying tools and IPS patches, so we have possibilities to deal with space a little bit more economically or even write up some simple (de)compression.
And if that fails, we still have the option to fall back to 4MB + custom emulator build.

I found the original placing of the white bars to be much better than anything you have now... they really weren't the problems; the "shadows" are. Most notably, dithering their borders doesn't go well with smooth highlights at all.

"Fugi's Corner"

Like some kind of antithesis to those old "****'s Corner" forums where you were supposed to talk about mature topics.

All fun and games aside, I don't think that would be such a good idea. Just consider Treeki or CyclopsCaveman; they both are around 12 or 13. On the other hand, jargon supposedly was 20something. Age is not a reliable criterium.
As soon as the pointing and laughing gets old, some bans might be in place to help post quality...

So I just kicked my (not exactly stable either way) Debian system's remaining stability to the curb and decided to get the fresh KDE 4 packages that were put into the experimental branch.

screenshot

On first sight, the increased eyecandy of the whole thing makes a very positive impression; things like the integrated with the desktop widget system positively have good potential. It feels like they are on the right way.

However, I can't recommend anyone to follow my steps on a machine that is planned to be used productively. The number of bugs in the current stage is hardly bearable. Trying to turn on desktop effects when the graphics card driver (thanks, ATI...) does not support shaders properly leads to plasma crashing and the taskbar being gone on the next restart; the only way to bring it back I found so far was rm -rfing ~/.kde4/*, thus deleting all your other interface settings as well. Konqueror sometimes fails to display web pages for no particular reasons; Iceweasel (the debranded port of Firefox) works better in that aspect. Several parts of the UI, widgets in particular, seem to not work yet. Installation also will drag tons of unstable-branch packages into your system, negatively affecting overall stability (though I don't know if it's as bad in other distributions).

Discuss.

Oh yeah, also, in Konqueror, textareas break in a graphic manner as soon as they get focus.

Impressive.

From looking at those screens, I am bound to assume that the physical (3D voxel based?) data of the levels is, to a good degree, separate from the graphics. Is that correct?

Please provide detail on your process of "putting the stuff" or "pasting". What part of the ROM exactly did you move?

You are not making any sense.

You said you pasted something from one ROM to another. What exactly was it?

If you can't answer that question, forget about assembly hacks, HDMA effects or whatever you want to have until you learned enough about things to get a basic idea what you are doing.

Just pasting a table somewhere won't yield anything since there won't be any code to run that table. Perhaps, some IPS patch you should apply was mentioned?

Then, well, shit out of luck; it's obviously a patch that doesn't work on modified ROMs well.

Copying the table alone won't bring you anywhere either way; if you need it in your hack so badly, apply the patch to an empty ROM and reimport all the levels (hint: .mwl), graphics etc. from your hack ROM into it.

In Germany, you can buy light alcoholic drinks (beer etc.) starting with age 16.

More on topic, as for me, it's coke.

I know, not much. I really want people's opinions. I didn't make sonic, my friend Kyoseron from SMWC made it for me.

So what about it did you make?

On another note, why are there so many hacks based around the notion of "I take [x] from game [y] and put it into SMW" lately?

If you want this to become worth your own and potential player' time, at least make something distinct and noteworthy like modifying SMW's physics to be more Sonic-like (yes, I know that will require you to do extensive tracing and assembly grinding).

None.

I used to play Tennis for a while in a time long past and play ping-pong relatively frequently over the course of one or two weeks a year (maths camps/mathematical olympiad rallies), but I don't think past or that rare events are worth that much of a mention.

I am not overly impressed. The graphics look rather cheesy (for the small hand-drawn part... mspaint much?) and he didn't even get most of the game rips right, let alone made them fit together; the story seems to be unmotivated stock material and the dialogue that could be seen in the trailer was silly.

Besides that, this is material for the gaming forum, not General Chat.
