That music is pretty terrible IMO. It'd fit a more jungle type level, I guess.

Well, the level did produce a bit of a "jungle-like" impression to me... the background half fits such a setting, and piranha plants seemed like something you'd encounter in the depths of a rainforest to me ever since I first saw them in YI.

Looking at this gave me an idea.

What do you think of implementing an air meter, potentially making something like Cave Story's "breathe under water indefinitely" bubble a collectable item? That would allow for another "you can't advance here before you found x" scenario...

After getting a Bokosuka Wars ROM off dgemu, finding that nester will complain about its header and not play it at all, I finally got it running in fakenes.

While I see some graphical improvements, I don't get the game at all.

Post some kind of guide?`

Does it operate on the Japanese, the English or both versions of the ROMs? (I'd get both, but with ~500KB space left on the HD I have my emulation folders on, I have to be selective with that... )

Also, why didn't you just put it onto this board's uploader instead of some shifty rapidshare-like site? That's why it was created in the first place, pretty much...

I messed with sprite tool a little and made a "board moron goomba" sprite (which tries to emulate the behaviour of a monster that clearly didn't read the FAQ of SMW, walking unsteadily and bumping into things all the time)

Graphics are still flawed, so is collision detection. The code is shit. Once I get better at the whole sprite thing, I can clean it up/fix it, but this is practically the first thing I coded with it...

I see... 'suppose that makes sense.
I definitively like the graphics on that screenshot a lot. Is there something special about the ledge extending to the right from that pillar?

I could argue the usefulness of that level name in the status bar thing here, but meh... your choice, I guess.

The perspective looks a little bit weird... if you want to make it appear like the scene was "cut through" in the plane right before the platforms, you should make the stakes visible, perhaps with a blue shade implying some water in front of them, below the water level too.

Re: that video - I see how this works now. Is that thing rotated using SuperFX or other accelerator chip code or are you just uploading the separate rotation stages' frames dynamically from ROM like smwedit did for that YI piranha plant?

From what I saw earlier today, this is indeed a fairly nice editor... I will probably try to have a deeper look at it later. (Then, I'd rather beat Megaman 3, which I tested it on, first... there's always something killjoyish about seeing a level in an editor before playing it)

- edits of normal SMW enemies to adapt to various board stereotypes (morons, enforcer adminators, spamming douchebags, what-not)
- possibly original representations of those
- prominent personalities from the board
- general things typical of ... the internet

I've seen platformers being grouped in that genre a lot lately, now that they aren't the predominant kind of game in console markets along with RPGs anymore...

Very nice; I see you've come a long way since the first version I saw.

The second trainer battle (the one with ArBeWhat) seems to be prone to errors of the one kind or other; for one, it's easy to run out of PP with nothing to do since the enemy pikachu wouldn't do much damage against yours - also, after I stayed at the resting place, thus getting to the second ArBeWhat battle, it seems to have caught up in an unescapable loop of "Jigglypuff uses Defense Curl! Defense won't go higher!" (it won't do anything else) and "Pikachu is paralyzed!" (it won't end); running away, once away, is impossible.

Additionally, both the L and R buttons appear to toggle a greenish-grey screen with nothing on it with the notable exception of menu text (which stays on top despite the menu background being overdrawn). Is that a bug or a feature?

PS: As I notice now, using a potion makes the state of perpetual paralysis of my Pikachu end; however, it resumes after a turn and with full HP (29/28 HP, in fact) I can't use a potion again.

Am I missing something, or is this just the plain old "What, X didn't come in first? THE SELECTION PROCESS MUST HAVE BEEN RIGGED" argument?

For somebody who doesn't frequent that place, though, I must say that just for the bulk of the posts being written in proper and readable grammar, the expectations I set when seeing the community's name regarding the members' perceived intelligence were exceeded by far...

If what was downloadable on the first link was a hack, it isn't now anymore.

However, what you found was, in fact, something I've been looking for for a while. (A youtube of it can be found here)

It's a standalone game obviously based on SMB, but stuffed with 2ch memes and SJIS art characters and, yeah, that "traps" element. A must-play, I'd say; however, to get it to run on a non-Japanese Windows, you'll likely require AppLocale.

Credits also go out to Drag for linking me to the youtubes of this some weeks ago.

As this isn't a ROM hack, this doesn't really fit in this section... I'll move it to General Chat for now and leave it to the other fullmods or admins to find a better-suited location if they can track one down.
