According to its Wikipedia page, the "WOW YOU LOSE!!" triggers when your king dies... I assume there are some rather untransparent/unforeseeable conditions under which that can happen?

I'm assuming hoping you mean 1-1, because I thought the 2-1 music fit pretty well. Its from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time -- the Thwomp Volcano theme. I was going for a rocky theme.

As for 1-1, thats just placeholder music.

Don't get me wrong, the song itself is nice... I just think it really doesn't fit the level at all. And yeah, I meant the second one.

As for those screws... any chance of seeing them in action, like in a video?

Lunar Magic itself doesn't bother with the music and sound effects at all beyond you being able to set which song number plays in a level... if you aren't scared of the command line and text documentation, there's addmusic (link is in Japanese, but I believe there was an English translation somewhere... look for it); also, this might be of interest.

There's also the SMB3/SMB1 music patches by DJ Bouche, which switch SMW to use the more compatible "later" version of the SMAS engine (commonly referred to as N-SPC). I am making a GUI tracker for those, but it's not released yet.

That BG looks very nice. I think it would fit the intended tongue-in-cheek theme of the hack more if you did something like adding those typical || eyes to bushes/hills, but otherwise, I'm all for putting it in.

edit: Since you are editing your post as well anyway, is there any chance you could map16ify the Cave Story background I linked a few posts above?

Well, while I generally agree that would be a good thing, I doubt, at this point, that we have sufficient resources (as in # of good graphics designers familiar enough with the SMW engine) to pull it off to that extent.

Those graphics are custom. Only the second outside (i.e. third) part of Outer Wall uses a (complete, in exchange) Cave Story rip.

I believe we have good enough relationships with any considerable location for SMW hacking on the internets to effect anybody who would do such a thing to be banished.
They'd win nothing. Also, the amount of secrecy required to counter such a thing happening would be contraproductive. (though I am considering to limit access to the ToS section of the uploader to previously approved users)

Your soldering equipment appears to be in a considerably better state than my soldering iron with a compass (as in the geometry tool)'s needle as a tip and pile of unsorted resistors, capacitors etc.

Either way, this looks fairly interesting. What you should try is overclocking your SNES (swap out quartz) (though that might cause issues with some games that rely on "hard"/busy loop timing rather than one based on interrupts)
