The server move went hand in hand with switching to a new PHP version, where some of the cryptographic functions changed to no longer support non-power-of-two keylengths. As a result, the old login cookie keys stopped working for the uploader.

It should be fixed now; uploads, however, might still not work.

Also, I'd say threads like this belong into Help/Suggestions/Bug Reports...

Do you mean software-wise or technique-wise? Programs such as Krita and MyPaint work pretty well (and PaintTool SAI seems to be popular with Windows users), but I'm not sure what sort of advice to give on methodics or artistry.

Just follow the server move tracking sticky in General Chat (which was more or less made for this purpose).

No, by all means, thanks for pointing it out; I didn't even notice.

PHP abolished register_globals with the new version; a lot of the old scripts had to be converted, and I forgot about that one. (Some more graphics stuff might still be broken in the same fashion.)

Unfortunately, the necrobumper we are looking at is not a bot but one extremely dedicated French guy who seems to have some kind of unhealthy obsession(s/chair/board/) with us. We are mopping his reregs up daily, but I'd really rather find a way of automating the process forever or having his house bombarded from orbit or something.

This sort of request should go into H/S/B, not General...

Gave implementing it a shot - however, for superficial security's sake, the syntax actually only calls for the identifier (line noise) bit of the youtube link to be between the tags.

Test:

Should be fixed. Dang, magic_quotes_gpc is pretty subtle.

This forum section is for announcing releases of ROM hacks, not asking questions about them. I'm moving the thread to Gaming.

Yeah. The old server is still up, on that matter; the HDD was just starting to feel sluggish enough that I suspected it would kick the bucket again soon. On the other hand, I really would have moved earlier if it weren't for the new server's RAID constantly glitching (somewhat disturbingly, it still occasionally flips bits in files on the order of one GB, even though I've had them exchange the disks, cables and RAID controller).

The two main holdups to getting the archives up are that I really want to sandbox them up better (I was constantly under the impression that there are probably things people do by exploiting the uploader in combination with ancient evils buried in the 1.9x code lying around) and they don't really seem to take the new PHP version well. I'll get to it one of these days after sorting out some more urgent grad school stuff.

derpo: I, for my part, think you should (1) chill and (2) get a life that involves better things than getting angry at people over a forum existing. Perhaps getting banned will constitute the kick in the posterior that will finally make you get your life back on track. You can do it! I believe in you!

Mike-Tech: Thanks for standing up for the board, but I think that with people like that, it's for the best to just ignore them. If you needlessly rile them up, it will just feed their delusions about the significance of heroically shouting at an almost-dead forum that it should close down already.

There was supposed to be an FFn (n<7) style battle system based on the board profiles. Acmlm actually went and made a partial SDL-based implementation of it once which, to my best knowledge, still works; the software, however, is somewhat buggy, all but the most rudimentary features are missing and there is basically no balancing at all.

I think you may be able to find the client somewhere on Acmlm's server, but it will have been compiled to use a copy of the board running on the same.

I can assure you the original Japanese text is written in a pretty childish/immature register too... if anything, Woolsey's English translation, while wobbly in places, gave the scenario a more serious veneer.

An SD3-like mechanism where AI-controlled party members eventually are moved towards the player-controlled characters with no regard to map collisions if they are stuck and too far off screen would be the single most salient improvement of the gameplay experience I could think of. Hell, even simply relaxing the requirement that all characters stay within a certain distance of each other would be a lot better in my opinion.

I don't think the "share EXP between spirits" idea you posted in the RHDN thread is particularly good. It's not like the player is outright obliged to grind to beat the game; in a normal playthrough, the individual levelling of the spirits actually ensures that your magic repertoire does not become a Swiss army knife of monster killing for free. Perhaps, it might actually be better to do the opposite thing and impose a global limit on the sum of all spirits' magic levels, or perhaps at least make the sum of all your levels influence how slowly you gain experience for any individual spirit. This would force players to pick a specialty and stick with it, much like MMORPGs allow different character builds.

The most recent thing I played was the 1.3 update of Terraria, which probably needs no introduction here. Before that, Race the Sun entertained me for a while.

Archive 2 is now back alive, although there were a bunch of forum records that seem to not have made it into the database dump, which I only reindexed very haphazardly: click me

I'm still working on Archive 3, as there are some incongruities with changes in PHP getting in the way.

edit: Done. Let me know if anything breaks.

If your account was taken over, it's not like we can just unban it and be done with it; the password will have been changed by whoever took it over. Unfortunate though it is, the best options in such a situation are for you to either email one of the administrators or sign up a new account and PM to get your password back.

Well, you can achieve roughly the same thing with Flash, which we still allow here at the moment... though I always reckoned it would be easily filterable if it ever were to be abused since we do also have the JS-walled [swf] tag.

I think this is probably due to the PHP change that made its AES functions stop being capable of dealing with keys that are not 16 characters in length (perhaps because it stopped doing key expansion, or it actually never did?). I'll look into it in a bit.

The bot floodgates were really opened when we switched from our custom captcha system to recaptcha... perhaps it's worth trying to switch back to the custom one. If more distinct types of bots have been seen lately, that probably just implies that the technology to automatically solve ReCaptcha is spreading to more actors.

For the record, though, the number of bots that actually get through is still utterly dwarfed by the number of those that get vaporised on sight because of predictable posting patterns...

I'm closing this thread because it is unlikely to produce anything apart from further pointless arguments and hurt feelings.

Posted by Mike-Tech
Your above statements would be enough to get your tossed out of here permanently.

While I do think this thread was highly unnecessary, the one offense that is sticking out to me in this thread over anything else is how you repeatedly engage in backseat moderation (which is explicitly forbidden by the FAQ, which one would think a capable backseat moderator like you would have studied in and out) and antagonise other users.

You (yes, you) should consider yourself lucky that one of the admins here is a bit more "lenient" and willing to overlook some minor problems. Please don't make them become major problems that even the "lenient" admin would no longer be willing to overlook.

I believe this has been tried before, and the outcome was that it barely saw any activity and what little it saw was mostly documentation of community memes and drama.

As with any other community, in order for people to put any effort into it, you first need to convince them that there will actually be an audience for their effort, which in the context of a wiki basically means having a lot of people already there and visibly putting in effort. So if we had the manpower and number of interested people to be willing to make it hit the ground running (by flooding it with a large amount of content right in the beginning), I could see it being possible, but right now that really does not appear to be the case.
