I've returned from the old board! The name's 3.14+(also known as 3.14159..., but I am fed up with that.) Since the move of the server, I am not able to visit Acmlm's II anymore, but today I found a proxy site...
My hobbies are chemistry(rather dangerous, I know), playing with DS, and SMW Hacking(No time since I bought a DS), blah blah...
Well nothing too much, but I want to say that if I disappeared for a long period of time, it's not that I left Acmlm's II, but the proxy site was down.

And... my English is not very good. Please excuse XD

Ah yeah, I remember somebody mentioning my server was blocked by the Chinese government... makes me wonder whether it's because of that evil capitalist South Korean MMORPG pserver I host on it or what the reason might be in general.

Anyway, welcome.

I dissent. There are enough SMW hacks with Mario in them as is, and a sufficient number of them are highly modded graphically too. Nothing wrong with trying something new.

(I've been considering that for an SST demo hack myself, but so far have been too lazy to get started on it)

Since the DB structure and some related code already were present, I added post layout functionality in.

As some people on IRC suggested, if this feature is abused (i.e. shitty layouts) too much, the privilege to create post layouts will be made dependent on constraints like a minimum amount of posts, powerlevel, RPG coins or administrative approval.

Other than that, go nuts.

Tanks, that looks fairly hideous.
The graphics stretch and don't fit the board at all (none of the colour schemes).
Please replace it.

Could you dump the code here in a [code] tag? The uploader page produces JavaScript errors on my end for some reason (on top of doing nothing)...

The quote boxes look a bit cheesy... change the frame they use and add some cell padding.

I concur. Episode 19 was pretty damn epic, if not among the best ones so far.

Japanese television never ceases to amaze me, both positively and negatively... the amount of creativity required to produce all this weird shit is hardly imaginable.

Why are there Chinese subtitles though?

The foreground graphics, with a few exceptions, are top notch... you should either replace or at least recolour the backgrounds to something with less contrast and less clashing with the FG though.

Made in Google Image Search, The GIMP and like 30 minutes, most of which was CSS tweaking.

Breaks in IE6 for whatever reason.

Also only visible in its full glory with loo~

~ong texts.

Does it look good on monitors with less of a too high contrast problem than this one anyway?

While I can't help you on the TSA data, I do have an opinion on team hacks... namely, especially with large teams, it's worth a try if you can bring up the necessary amount of organization. For a long time, the commonly accepted point of view was that they are an impossibility to pull off and, as you said, a waste of time, and I would have gone with it without much consideration; however, recently, the cooperative efforts behind those Japanese guys' SMW hack (which was made on 2channel under further complicating conditions, with most contributors being anonymous and hardly even distinguishable between each other, and yet beat most recent one-man efforts in terms of technical impressiveness and often level design) made me see that cooperative hacking is possible, and I wish you good luck if you want to try it on anything.

mIRC's main window display always seemed a bit unpredictable to me, though the only things I had happening to it were the main window sometimes not showing up until I closed the option dialog that displays at the start. All I can recommend you to try is to reinstall/update to a more recent version if you aren't on 6.21 yet.

Thanks. I'll see if I can build an import filter based on that.

>>60840
This suggests a quite different from regular songs handling, but I suppose I could build a sound effect loading and editing feature based on that, probably at the risk of some functions like underlay tracks breaking... (I foresee a great amount of work to grey all the then non-working UI parts out rather than just letting them crash or do nothing )

If you want the background to be animated, preset tables won't work by definition. What you, however, can do the following:
- Make a simple sine table for one period in ROM, going from like -5 to +5 in terms of amplitude and stretched out on whatever you want the wave length to be. Powers of 2 would make the math to do in the following easier.
- Create a counter that is incremented every frame and wraps around to zero after it hits the number of entries in the sine table.
- Have a subroutine generate an HDMA table in RAM that does as follows:
- 2 bytes write twice to register 210F (BG2 hscroll)
- fill it with entries like:
[$02 or whatever you want the number of scanlines for a "step" of the wave]
[2 bytes: base BG2 scroll + the entry of the sine table at [(entry#+counter) mod sine table length]
- make it be used as described

While I don't have the tools at hand to test it out and no time to write it out as code, it should work roughly as that.

You could do that, only it would use up an unnecessarily high amount of memory unless you went for a really low-resolution effect and wouldn't work if the background had some scroll of its own...

Also, unless the wavy BG is the only thing your ROM is going to do, what you wrote there could be considered very bad style at best... you should implement that kind of code into some kind of main loop/NMI routine instead.

The blue one is a sine wave. Wikilink is go
Trigonometric functions are something you always should know, especially when messing with computer graphics

But back on topic, I have a free game to show off. It is called Cho Ren Sha, It is a japanese game originally for the X86k, but it has been ported to PC. Sorry Mac and Linux users . It is an old skool shooter game, with pretty bad collision detection on your ship (which is a godsend in this game ) It makes it really hard to hit you. There is also a cheat code for it to change some aspects, but it looks more like its for debugging

I feel strongly reminded of Hikoza T. Ohkubo's older works, in particular Shooter's Solitude.
Here's that guy's site.

Kenta Cho has developed a lot of games following that style (something between danmaku and "oldschool" Gradius-style shmup) too, as well as some with more interesting and weird gameplay concepts.

The "header" is what is prepended to every post.

The "signature" is appended.

Commonly, layouts should use both. (A simplistic example would be a <table> in the header and </table> in the footer)
