Nice modifications - however I ran into a number of bugs which might or might not be due to me using a weird base ROM (I have an unidentified "smb3.nes"...). Among others, I noticed

when having a second-level powerup, exiting a level always changes it; this doesn't seem intentional;
defeating the Koopa kid results in some tiles being changed in a random pattern, and eventual return to the starting piece of world map standing in a wall in the top left corner;
most levels had no BGM, which might be intentional.

I was not able to proceed after the latter.

I see. A further thing I just discovered is that you can walk out of the poison mushroom world map by going two tiles down from the pipe you enter through and the walking all the way to the left; this results in severe and irrecoverable glitching.

If I recall correctly, it was when I jammed some code into SMW to screw with CGADSUB so that I could use Layer 2 as an additive lightmap of sorts. Nothing special, really.

"What was your best ASM hack" might be a question I would be able to give a more satisfying answer to

Yeah, I remember always preferring the comparatively easy to navigate layout of the Acmlmboards to other forum software packages back when I actually frequented multiple boards. Now as far as being "professional" goes, on the other hand, I don't know...

Sorry kid, but the main administrator locked that feature over a year ago.
They had a good reason to do this incase any legal issues, major problems came up with such said users to give to proper authoritys if necessary.

Suddenly going for the serious response? And here I was hoping for some well-scripted banter...

Anyway, to call the current situation "life support" seems to suggest that more effort has been put into keeping it alive and running than is actually the case in reality. Indeed, the main reason I had for making this thread was a sort of passive surprise that after months of barely even looking at it, there still seems to be a set of people (pretty much exclusively confined to the ROM Hacking section and its periphery) who post and seem to get something out of it; in that light, I reckoned it might be a good gesture to suggest some quick housekeeping to reflect this situation in the forum structure.

Who would I even be doing a favour by pulling the plug as you suggest?

It's more of a joke that you're keeping something alive that's basically vegetative, but I'm somehow unsurprised that you missed the analogy.

Sorry, I didn't realise that using a metaphor that is so run-of-the-mill that it probably makes it into dictionaries nowadays still qualified as a joke that needs acknowledgement and playing along in your world.

Everyone who leaves for a ROM hacking community that isn't dead.

I'm sure people can make decisions where to post for themselves without requiring you to descend upon board2's zombified body on a shining cloud of span title equals effort and lead them on the way out.

What's the deal with the generous spacing in your post, anyway? Are you trying to make it appear more significant by taking up more screen space? I'm sure even you must have something better to do with your time than figuring out novel ways of breathing hot whitespace air down the throats of zombie Acmlm's board clones.

PS: A lot of it is just inertia. Acmlm's board has a high SEO ranking) probably just because it's gone on forever. See also: how long ||board lasted even though it was filled with nothing but trolls and bad 4chan jokes.

The SEO argument would check out if the vestigial activity was due to new and one-time rather than recurrent users. And even if the board just provided people with a high-SEO place to post their stuff, what's so bad about that?
