Don't think it's a word, but it's reasonably similar to Jenkem and a witch in Cave Story named Jenka, her name in turn being derived from Letkajenkka", which was recycled as her theme/stage music.

It was kinda pointless in its entirety I think.I mean they killed a leader. And you know how history exaggerates these kind of stuff and just lazily says:Osama killed thousands. He probably was the mastermind behind it, but he was not the one to carry out these operations that's for sure.If it wasn't for him, it would've been for someone else.
And I think if there's ever going to be a Third World War, it's going to be USA and Europe vs. Iraq and Afghanistan.
Also I think they are planning revenge...I just have a bad feeling about this year's September.I mean it's gonna be the 10th anniversary or 9/11.If they're planning something, they will do it that day.
Let's hope I'm wrong.

"anyone vs. Iraq and Afghanistan" isn't really going to meet the scale requirements for something to be called a world war. Also, I would neither consider parallels to Nazi Germany to be appropriate (in the sense of there being little similarity, not in the sense of political correctness or anything) nor your apparent estimation of their planning prowess to be realistic - after all, there would have been a sufficient number of reasonably symbolic dates with nothing happening in spite of "them" having all the reason they need to enact "revenge".

What is this, knuck?

Are you implying that my STAFF is not enough anymore to satisfy you?

After all those years?

I think I sort of realized that it would lead up to an abnormal bad end, but then I proceeded to do it anyway.

Nice layout, by the way. I like it.

I think a -phobia by definition entails being afraid of possibilities rather than certainty. Being freaked out by the circumstances if you do wind up getting trapped under hundreds of tons of rock wouldn't be considered unusual or abnormal.

Given that the integers (e.g. post numbers) are not dense in themselves, surely there must be a limit to how long a decline can continue happening.

It's a sign things are finally getting back to normal. Or, it means we've quite recently peaked again, and this is as good as it gets.
Or it could mean just about anything, or nothing at all.

Um... unless I'm missing something here, the integers are dense in themselves.

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Dense.html

The integers have no limit points when regarded as a subset of itself with the typical metric. So...

Adding mathfagging to forum drama ftw.
Argh, looks like I failed hard. I had an entirely different concept of density in mind. What I should have said would be something like "the canonical ordering on the positive integers is not dense".
I've also had the impression that the definition outlined here would be closer to what I imagined, but I can't be bothered to actually think through whether some condition on the topology on used (Hausdorff?) might be sufficient to make the statement work...

No such limit was posted, so I'd assume there is none.

I'm an avid IRC user, but I'm not a huge fan of the board2 IRC channel, assuming that the one I've periodically visited over the years was the right one. IMO, and this is just an opinion, IRC is a huge drag on board activity.
Quite possibly, but simply turning it off wouldn't cut it; people would just be offended and move on to the next channel.

For a long time here, posting really hasn't been encouraged, if you ask me. Too much got labeled as spam whereas in previous board incarnations it would just be people fucking around and having fun.
Again, there is the problem of a hard core of people thinking we still have too much spam and bad posts and aren't being harsh enough.

Does the board even have a posting ranking anymore (ACS it used to be called)?
Yes, although nobody actually writes entertaining commentary on it anymore.

I feel like maybe things have relaxed a bit but the posting environment a year or two ago was stifling.
We're trying to work on it...

And yes there are women on the internet, but most probably wouldn't admit it b/c we men are lustful dickheads on average and TITS OR GTFO trolls at worst.
Well, the point stands that the gender ratio on the board dropped in a way that is at least significantly correlated with the decline in activity. The question is whether there is causality and, if there is, how it is directed.

If you take into account population growth over that time, it could actually be considered a net loss in average posting, depending on how you crunched the numbers. Population inflation devalues post currency or some junk like that.
If raw user numbers count, that is; many people have left.

Do I have any solutions for you? I'm afraid not. But it's laughable to me that you have people worried about spam when you're averaging less than 100 posts a day. I'm pretty sure I made a statement similar to this a couple years ago at some point. If it's all crap then it's all crap. How can you really discern good posting from crap with such low activity anyways? As long as people aren't posting porn and trolling each other hard core who really gives a shit unless you've got 500+ posts of it to wade through as a moderator.
And yet, it seems like there must be some kind of common-sense limit to that approach. Essentially, it could be said that ||board tried it; what it resulted in was a hard core of users with peculiar notions of what is fun leaving their marks on every single section and conversation thread until nobody but themselves was left, subsequently losing interest and leaving the forum to wither.

It just seems like something's wrong with this board but I can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps its the lack of bright colors, or the lack of new features or aesthetics that Jul has. I'm sure there's not one all encompassing answer.
That, I'm quite more inclined to agree with. Apart from something seemingly pointless like changing the default theme, though, I'm not entirely sure how one would properly address this shortfall.

That seems like such a roundabout way of adding that when presumably, adding support for headerless ROMs into the main application hardly would have taken FuSoYa longer than spelling out "permission granted" in an e-mail...

Still, nice. Hack value clearly was there, too.

Well, but it's not like all forums are dying out either... I'd say it's fairly evident that, compared to IRC or even Facebook chats, forum posting does have several advantages which mostly stem from the possible length, arbitrary time available for thinking your posts through and extensive formatting options. It's just a matter of motivating people to, or even finding people who, appreciate those advantages sufficiently to prefer it over other means of communication available.

I think blogs are something different altogether... I can't even see how they would replace forums for someone unless that someone does what people would call using forums like they are their blog.
