A perfectly good excuse to spend yet another complete day on the internet.

Well, I still contend that it is a bit of a waste to only aim for a public university with the scores you have (you'd probably have a good shot at getting extensive scholarships in the Ivy League); I got into the University of Cambridge with an (albeit small) scholarship with a far less clean record than that. It's not even necessarily so much that the university won't teach you to a sufficient standard - the problem more is that precisely because of the cheapness and higher accessibility, chances are high that all or most of your fellow students will walk down the path Xeruss outlined and, at best, leave you more isolated than you ever could have been in HS, and at worst, drag you down with them at long last.

I reckon that high hurdles of access to an institution of education might really be the only somewhat efficient measure to keep out those who only want to become students to enjoy a fratboy life of drinks and procreation.

I gave the original (free) Meat Boy a try the other day.

Got up to roughly the end of the Salt Factory, but found the controls just slightly too coarse-grained and annoying... but it was somewhat fun while it lasted nevertheless and the soundtrack was nice.

Ah, yeah.

I have a rough idea how that could be dealt with and will see to it as soon as I get around to.

I wish the good old practice of releasing games for free as a work of art you want to communicate rather than a vehicle of making money was still alive to a significant degree. Games like this are just "indie" enough that I would feel slightly bad for pirating it, but not nearly "indie" enough that I would wish to support the developers financially...

You don't believe people should get paid for a piece of art? (Which games are, after all)

I am just slightly wary of the monetary incentives overtaking or replacing artistic expression as a motivation.

So, on a more weeaboo note, I watched the Haruhi movie which came out on optical media at long last not too long ago yesterday.

It was positively awesome, although I wouldn't recommend it unless you have at least seen the first series; they don't bother to give a universe introduction to those who need it (which I wouldn't consider a bad thing).

I'd say there's definitively a massive improvement evident from the earlier images, but you should put more emphasis to get the shapes entirely right before trying to make your lines look confident. The perspective is shifty in some of the images, and facial shapes look like a somewhat forced attempt to maintain an animesque style (I dare say the better approach would be to start off by trying to draw photorealistically and go in the more symbolic anime direction from there rather than the other way around).

No, but I've been contemplating it. However, anything short of 1200 vertical resolution would hardly feel like an improvement over 1280x1024 (as really, when you do things other than watching movies, vertical screen space is much more valuable than horizontal).

I think one of those would push my laptop's graphics adapter beyond its limits as far as pushing pixels goes in the end... if that wasn't the problem, one of those absurd-tier screens would undoubtedly be nice to have.

The screenshots look rather nice, with the exception of the last one; the (presumable) desert background looks more like some kind of vomit sea. You should try to pick a different colour scheme for it, especially if you can manage something that contrasts with the foreground more strongly.

Yeah, uh, nothing. But the perceived value of games and other immaterial goods sinks to a degree they wouldn't really matter either way when you have the whole internet at your disposal

Merry christmas to everyone from me as well, anyway! I hope you enjoy your deerdongos.

I meant I don't consider not giving recaps a bad thing. In fact, I consider giving them bad more often than not; it fundamentally breaks the fourth wall in a cringeworthy manner.

Well, board2 is not SMWC's customer service.

This is pointless and I shall proceed to lock this thread.

I got fired at work! I wasn't expecting my boss to say, "Merry Christmas, [name omitted], your employment here is hereby terminated, empty your locker and return your vest.".

Wow, I suppose that's a textbook example of what they call a dick move.

Were you ever provided with a reason?

Well, something along the lines of "another year over and I still didn't get anywhere", perhaps...

The few western RPGs I know of differ from their Eastern counterparts either by trying to be darker and edgier (more club-wielding, grunting, manly tauren warchiefs) or extreme sandboxing as found in Morrowind...
