Its contents area seems to be 13 or 14 pixels tall at my font size setting. I suppose we could go up to that.

Those are mostly relics from an age when blitters were better at dealing with power-of-two metrics for whatever reason. There is no good reason for anyone to use program icons from some OS as minipics, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter to modern browsers' blitters at all. Therefore, there is no good reason for doing 16x16.

Neither Neritic nor ABXD are really arguments for anything. Last I checked, Neritic's UI, at least, was a jumble of pointless and CPU-consuming gimmicks.

I told you so before, but before you claim anything is a standard, I demand a chapter-and-verse citation of the somewhat widely accepted standards series that defines it as one. Otherwise, I might as well just introduce 256x239 pixel minipics because it's a standard. Or perhaps 8x8.

People used 11x11 minipics for years on 1.x and nobody died from it. If you don't like it, just don't use it.

To come back to your parking lot example, it surely is better than no parking lot at all for motorcyclist. If you want to argue for car parking, you have to make a coherent argument for us actually having drivers and parking opportunities for them being a sensible investment in that patricular location.

If 11x11 or 13x13 minipics are really that bad (and from the amount of ruckus they cause, one might really be inclined to conclude they seem to be worse than no minipics at all), I'll happily just wipe them back into nonexistence.

what is the point of admins anyway?
Admins are not coders. Those are two entirely different areas of responsibility.

(So what are you trying to say, anyway? That your argument only works if one doesn't think too hard about it? That seems like more of an instance of intellectual sleight of hand to me...)

Sorry, but this is a troll thread and you should feel bad.

I will now move this into Spatula.

Moreover, as an admin, you are fully in the position to have me replaced as the coder any time. I've been suggesting you to have Cellar Dweller contact me about access for a while now.

Sorry, but pure request threads are frowned upon. Hacking generally is about getting things done yourself; if you don't have some results to show, people will have no motivation to team up with you at all.

Closing.

There you go. It's 16x16.

Now please, especially considering that there is a nonempty set of people who expressed interest in doing so, do go and find another board coder. I am positively opposed to activities where I am forced to do things I consider Wrong™, and all the more so if I don't even get paid for it; and this has now become precisely one of those.

I had a 1.1 average on my German A-levels, which I suppose would naively be a 3.9 GPA (as 4.0 is the lowest passing grade and 1.0 ist the best possible).

My examinable subjects (all scores out of 15; generally, they say 15 corresponds to A+, 14 is A, 13 is A-, 12 is B+ etc.) were

Further Maths: 15
Further English: 15
Further Physics: 12 in written exam (whee, blunder), 14 in oral reexamination I insisted on although it really didn't matter for the point average
History: 14 (oral examination)

We had a total of one or two East Asian students at the school I remember, two or three with Russian background, rest being mostly Germans (although there was an Iraqi girl in my German class, I vaguely remember).

After spending a year semi-NEETing away doing [the algebra part of, effectively] second year Mathematics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, I went on to read the Computer Science Tripos (with Physics) at the University of Cambridge. I found myself rather disappointed with the comparative emphasis on the applied aspects that I blame on the strong grip the Digital Technology group - mostly people who would rather self-identify as engineers than scientists - has on the department, but the ELITIST TIER experience itself is rather enjoyable and Cambridge does do a very good job at accumulating people who are interesting to talk to and study with. I finished the first year examinations with first class honours, apparently ranked 6th in the year; given that I spent most of the time up to four days before the exams playing Fate/Stay Night (time sure flies thanks to the language gap), it feels more like the others did even worse than like I did well.

Currently, I am doing a 1.5 month undergraduate research internship in the Mathematical Reasoning Group at the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, working on graph and category theoretical formalisms for quantum computing. So far, what I've been doing has been pertaining to graph rewriting and automorphism groups, if that's any indication. I am quite content.

I have quite a couple of testing ROMs he sent me over time which are all apparently based off the same image as this, but have different contents. (Some of them no less interesting, though.)

I remember seeing this too, but I'm suspecting the ROM image this was in might be broken or rely on an SRM file I didn't copy over...

Here are those I have that were still working to some degree:

(Also, I'm taking back what I said in the PM - I have found the actual ROM from that video; it had a rather curious name which I take to be the running index from some uploader)

The ROM from the video
Testing a custom sprite of some 2ch AA character (I remember - which is indicative of me having received the source at some point, although I would have no idea if I even have those files on my laptop - that he named the sprite "OCHA_DOZO", or roughly "Here, have some tea")
Some SuperFX magic with large spinning fire logs
Those YI boulders, minus graphics
Mostly a couple of effects

It might put some financial pressure on book printers - or actually force them to downscale and raise prices further because it would turn books into a niche hobby for people who want something to display on your shelves, depending on how you look at it.

Even as one of the more computer-dependent people out there, I must say I still haven't quite accommodated myself with the notion of reading literature on a computer screen; paper and ink are easier on the eyes in the long run and the bit of input device innovation we've been getting has not really managed to replicate the convenience of flipping pages.

Lately, I didn't have the time for video games, but before that, I suppose the last two things were Dwarf Fortress and Fate/stay night. The former is probably quite well-known around here, and I found the latter to have a reasonably compelling storyline and to be a good way of getting some practice in reading Japanese fast.
