I don't like it. The borders are too flashy, and the size and face of the text makes the margins look too small, giving it an exceedingly cheap overall look.

It seems like a feature that, while certainly useful to various kinds of forum games, would have a tendency to cause accidents when serious, non-lowbrow posts bounce and the poster overlooks it.

If I had to choose, I'd say the good posts should be given priority.

Generally, I have little to add to your choices and comments. I personally would at least give the Tototek device equal consideration (due to the multiregion aspect, parallel port usage and dependency on old software not being much of a problem for me and large ROM support), but I reckon this might not be the same for you.

I think the static discharge point is one thing that's greatly exaggerated in terms of actual risk emanating from it.

Maybe add Japanese to these considerations if it ever dawns on that country how retarded its writing system is.

I wouldn't consider it much worse than English or French, in their gory randomness, really; if anything, it's close to being the best alternative if you consider the spoken language to be represented an immovable given. Motions to replace it with syllabaries or even the Latin alphabet existed and were rejected for a good reason.

If you are looking for an unambiguously good writing system, try Korean.

It's implemented, but at the moment, it only affects post headers and footers rather than post bodies.

The whole point of me posting that was that it is implemented. I thought that was obvious.

Additionally, the shapes of the letters themselves follow a rather well thought through system that actually allows to deduce each letter's pronunciation, and the few ambiguities in pronunciation->spelling translation are generally used in a sensible way to reflect morphology.

Sorry for only being tangentially on topic, but if this is a Linux system, what stops you from running the applications that need a Japanese locale with a LANG=ja_JP.utf8 environment prefix instead of changing the whole system locale?
