Should I have a shot at that?

Doesn't that mean that you are forced to program a game because you really want to program a game?

Or, in other words, you are just forcing yourself.

I don't think any programmers will be particularly motivated to help you if the general attitude you radiate is "It is you programmers' fault that I ...".

To somewhat hijack the topic,
do you presently have any interest in maintaining (or using at all, on that matter) the frontpage? It's been in sorts of a state of abandon.

Any suggestions regarding what to do with it are welcome.

So, 2010 has started, and I take it the vacations should be over by now or at least soon for most people here.

As most of you will undoubtedly have to return to some kind of real life after this interlude of present-receiving, fireworks-burning and excessive internet usage - what kind of things will you be returning to at the start of 2010?

For those living in countries where the definitions are unclear, "school" is to encompass everything up to and including High School. Everything where you learn towards a Bachelor's Degree or similar or above counts as "university".

For me, it's University, on that matter. First year of a CS+Natsci Maths/Physics programme at Cambridge.

It's better to try and avoid making the number of posts recorded for a user and the number of posts that belong to them in the database incosistent...

Though, I guess, something like the ancient system of gathering dangling posts in special pool threads in a Lost Threads forum would work.

Is the implication that your father was employed at the same business as you?

(If you still live together with them, wouldn't that have the potential to produce some hard feelings within your family?)

Ah. This sounds like age might have been a factor as well... if they come into a position where they feel obliged to lay off some people, they naturally give those who would retire in a couple of years anyway preference as youthful flexibility of sorts is seen as more valuable these days, as is the theoretical possibility of them staying with the company for years to come.

How is IT taking the crisis, anyway? Construction, with its intimate connection to housing and immovables in general, is one thing, but computing might be an area where the issues only propagate with considerable delay, if at all...

To avoid making another weeaboo music post,

Ville Valo & Natalia Avelon - Summer Wine

I remember hearing this song on the radio on the way back from some Physics olympiad/competition where my Physics teacher drove me and another participant from the same school. The teacher, then, mentioned that it was one of his favourite songs; surprisingly, I found that I liked it too.

This is a borderline brilliant flash platformer (with its certain IWBTG moments... I died 109 times in one room) I found on 4chan /f/. Apparently, it's getting a full release in two days (source) (the creator is going to charge $15 for it, but if you are in a charitable mood, I'd say it's totally worth it as it's one of the best flash games I've seen to date).

Also, the chiptune soundtrack is sweet.

gameplay video

Link to SWF (as direct /f/ links are rather transient)

I think I beat it at like 7 trinkets, about 2 hours and 1000something deaths out of which 109 were at The Villi People. The number of flips was something around 3100.

How many times did I say you should stop making forum games that really just work as $postcount++ implements without any significant challenge to intellect or skill behind them?

Canned.

Sorry, but we apply a higher standard to threads here than the people over at that forum do.

"Some other people also did this somewhere else, so don't blame me!" doesn't work as an argument. Somewhere else, other people also post goatse and tubgirl threads; the general rule is that you have to apply your own common sense to threads you make.

This is not a "game" or meaningful in any way. Closing will now ensue.

The frontpage is fully compatible with board themes; if someone was to make a bright board theme that works sufficiently well, it would be usable with the frontpage too. Two birds, one stone etc.

As for the overcrowdedness argument, I kind of understand what you are getting at. It would be quite easy to dispose of all the additional windows - but at the end of the day, you'd still need somebody there who actually blogs.

> General Megaman Game Hacking thread
I'm not sure what to think about the merit of such threads. Sure, it cleans up the ROM hacking forum - but it does so at the expense of order for discussion of questions about the game in question. If the threads aren't becoming too much of a clutter problem in the ROM hacking forum, I don't think there is a good reason for such a thread nor a separate section to be established for it.

If I recall correctly, the original reason for the SMW Hacking forum being forked off was that like 60% of the threads in ROM Hacking were about SMW and other threads were getting pushed off page one by them within a day. I don't think such a problem can be observed with Megaman threads in the ROM hacking section at the moment.

Very British. Around 0°C, no significant snow cover, grey skies, 24/7 light drizzle.

Good weather to skip lectures and do the hikikomori.

Congratulations on achieving what I did after two months of membership, and what I have just recently tripled.

A milestone is a milestone, so live it up a bit.
I dunno, this post sounds kind of patronizing...

Either way, congratulations. As they say, more posts don't generally mean better posts

Not like you couldn't easily get the whole game plus soundtrack on the usual uploader sites by now.

Even if you find the $15 for the game too much, though, $4 for the soundtrack really seem like a small price to pay for all the awesomeness.
