The word back when layouts were first introduced was that administration just should relentlessly nuke all layouts that are not outright good (rather than just nuking those that are outright bad) in order to preserve aesthetic quality.

I think it would be a much more elegant solution to this than an individual layout block feature, which would ultimately just serve as an excuse to justify all kinds of bad layouts ("If you don't like it, just block it for yourself!"), which would lead to the board being a rather nasty sight to any newbies that float up or people who just can't be bothered to block every single bad layout.

Nevertheless, administration doesn't seem to be particularly keen about enforcing anything like that...

Congratulations from me too. (Although I must admit I am personally more one of the "one year closer to dying" attitude people... )

The features are technically supported; it's just that appropriate tickboxes are missing. I guess that should be fixed at some point.

Also, after entering the number of options you want, you should, in fact, press Preview. I suppose some remark about having to do that would be useful though...

Yeah, I suppose clarification could be used in places.

I'll look into it.

Lately, he didn't get the princess anyway. Sure, he knew she was into that whole French royalty roleplaying thing, but her demeanor just seemed unusually artificial, perhaps even robotic, even for her standards.

I don't see the blending in as too problematic. Sure, Redrawn has somewhat more intricately textured (and perhaps even "messy") objects, but the detail-to-size ratio in the Ninji sprite already is so high that you hardly could make much of a visible difference.

Either way, this is a pretty cute idea.

For custom sprites, I recommend getting solid in some hacking 101 topics first, like hexadecimal numbers and assembly language programming. Once you got basics like that down, getting into programming custom sprites should be a fairly trivial task.

He did not, however, get much time to cultivate his frustration - with a loud crack, Mario could feel something heavy hit the back of his head. Stumbling forward, he just saw the velvet-carpeted ground rapidly approaching before all around him turned black.

"Wait... no... this is too stereotypical. Organised crime might look like that in children's movies, but even kids aged ten nowadays know reality doesn't work like that", he thought and woke up for real. A quaint tune could be heard from a transistor radio somewhere.

TestDisk is an application to recover all kinds of mangled partitions. It easily beats all the weird GUI shareware "Data Doctor XP 2000" junk out there to the pulp. Posting this because it, once again, saved the day for me.
Also exists for Linux/Macs.

Waking up in his bed, covered in sweat and desperately clinging to his massive 10-inch man-tool, Mario underwent a sudden episode of existential self-reflection - was that what he, a soon to be 50 year old member of the proletariat, should really be doing at this point in life?
Consumed by the darkness of the angst instilled by his mid-life crisis, Mario pulled his surprisingly flexible insemination implement firmly up, tied it around his neck with the resolute, professional motion of a plumber that had yanked many a koopa out of the pipes that way in his professional life and took a deep bite out of the magic mushroom he stored in his drawer; it might have been romantic, in a certain way, if the last image to fill his mind as all the other images turned to black had been one of the Princess, in her best years, smiling at him when he once again fulfilled his royal canalisation working duty - but unfortunately, real life does not work that way.

BAD END.

For some reason, the network services wreaked havoc and crapped up the ircd log with several doztens of messages a second. When the logfile hits 2GB, the ircd we currently use crashes. Great programming right there.

For now, I took it back up; I can't guarantee the security and continued stability though as services are outside of my control. If the same thing happens again, I'll try bugging DJBouche about it.

This has been a message from your friendly neighbourhood blackhole89.

The text/BG color is okay, but the background seems to be optimized for rather... short posts at the moment.

Why is it all returners skillfully overlook that one thread made precisely for posts like this one?

Either way, welcome back.

Well, it's certainly at the very least in the spirit of that thread's existence to prevent the creation of threads that deal only with the presence or absence of the poster on the forum...

1280x1024 on both desktops; 1280x800 on both laptops.

I'm kind of planning to buy a larger screen for one of the former since they've dropped a lot in price since the last time I did such a thing, but then, "plans" are a rather flexible concept in my world.

I'd say that bright background based layouts are frowned upon as they clash with the board's themes badly, but that probably would be an invalid generalization that doesn't even necessarily reflect the opinion of all staff, let alone the users. So I guess I'll just say...

I frown upon bright background based layouts.

That being said, the canonical way for doing it is having some kind of block element enclose your whole post through the header/footer and attach a background image to it, like
<table border=0 cellspacing=0 width=100% height=100%
style=padding:0px;margin:0px;border-width:0px;background-image:url('http://your.domain/image.jpg')><tr><td>
in the header and
</td></tr></table>
in the footer.

Thanks to this (specifically the concept of a "gap s", "Fugen-s"), that word would be more correct as "Frühstückswörterbücher".
