HI there! I've been working on this level hack for SMB3 for a little while now, and was wondering if I could get some opinions on it. It's called A New Beginning, and so far (And all I really set out to accomplish) what is done is all of World one, save for text edits. I'm a little proud of it, as a first time venture into Hacking.
Here are a few Screen shots:

The World Map:

Level One: A New Beginning.

Level Three : The Brothers .... Lakitu?

Level Four: Up and Down River

Level Five: Underground Passage

Roving Hammer Bros:

And now for the patch file itself: http://www.mediafire.com/?23gkg5dnmo2

Tell me what you think, should I re-do something? Scratch something? Quit Level Hacks forever?

Thanks for your time

Oh, and Two notes:

1) I'm thinking of Wiping level one and redoing it from scratch. Yay or Nay?

2) There's a hidden 1-up on every level. If you have too much trouble finding them, I'll post some hints later.

Ok, it seems a lot of people are wondering exactly what's up with that section in stage 5 XD. First off, if you slide in there as big, you CAN get out, you just have to crouch down, then hold it as you jump.

They way you were supposed to clear that bit was: Collect the Turtle shell, then fire it so it goes around that little loop, then slide onto the wooden block. You should land on it, then fall through while the shell is bouncing back.

Thanks for the support guys. I'll probably be moving level 2 a bit further on in the game.

Oh, and if you're having trouble with level three, the level two mushoom house could come in handy....

Tee Hee! Update!

Well, I've decided to go further on this hack, and the first ting I went about doing was a change on the World map Palette (Thanks PSlugworth). It's up in the screenshots section now.
I Like it a lot more. Opinions?

Also, I've started creating the overworld for Level 2. I'll have a shot of that, and a few more levels later this week.

What's that weird glove-thing in the screenshot?
Also, what editor are you using to make the hack? (I'm not too familiar with NES editors)

That "Weird glove thing" Is actually my mouse, I was somehow able not to notice it floating around in the screen shot. When I get a chance, I'll get rid of it.

The editor I'm using is just SMB3 Workshop.

Natural Wear and tear? I'm sorry, but what exactly do you mean by that?

So, I've recently begun trying to learn hex editing as a way to edit levels without an editor.I decided to try my hand at Solomon's Key for a first, but i've been reading guides and a must be doing something wrong. Has anyone messed around with Solomon's Key, and knows where the level data is? Or even, just a good way to FIND the data?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. The tutorial about Hex editing I've been reading didn't even mention corruptors. Maybe because it was supposed to be a beginners guide. Anyway, thanks everyone.

And the online editor has been down for well over a year, so I don't think it'll be back soon.

Naw, it's not that I want to hack make a hack, and I have some good level design ideas for Solomon's key, one of my favorite games ever made.

Well, I made a LOT of progress, finding and figureing out date in this game. It's a great game, and hacking it isn't too bad once you get the hang of it, but I wasn't able to find any write ups about it. I'd like to see more (Any) hacks for this game. Just wondering, am i allowed to place information / guides on the forum as posts? Or would I have to link from another site.

Thanks

Zomg Solomon's key hax!

These are rooms from a full sized solomon's key hack I'm planning on. A demo will be out once I master how to do a few more things, but for now...

This room doesn't have enough time, without the hidden hourglass. I'll either be slowing the timer down, or making the hidden hourglass visible.

Tough, as the dragons are VERY hard to manuver against. Contemplating makeing the enemy spawns the <-- demon head --> , --> Demon head <--, dragon pattern

These are both WAY to hard in their current forms, but with minor tweaking, should work fine as later rooms.

Tell me what you think.

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone who was versed in hex formats could possibly help me.

I thought I had the format for Solomon's key down, but then something weird a screwy happens.

This is how it should be, and the line of code is there now, I though it was first bite was enemy type, second was location.

Still looks fine there

Here's where I'm confused. If i cange either of those 00 (No enemy) to 71 (Golem), it works. I change both, BAM! it all goes to hell.

Can anyone help?
