While RHDN is a very good resource, I don't really like the modern design of it compared to classic AcmlmBoards and their association with the RH community - part of the whole appeal of ABs is that RH essence... if someplace like Kafuka was to up their ROM hacker users I could easily see something like the old glory days of board2 and Acmlm's happening again tbh.

It's sad that the Acmlm community mostly got split and the ROM hackers mostly residing here, since outside general ROM hacking it isn't active at all and the staffers are barely online anymore... this place turned into a lot of neglect and issues from how I'm able to tell...

Not a shill or anything, not even an oldbie user, just someone who was a lurker back when I was a kid. I found Kafuka and Jul, as well as this board, rather recently. I don't have much interest in actually ROM hacking which is why I never joined, and this is the only one of the three that has a prominent RH userbase anymore, so voiced my thoughts on this here.

If anyone's interested, Kafuka (board.kafuka.org) appears to have opened an SMB3 section. Maybe some of you could make a use of that? Perhaps some of you could go over there and help out with "specific hacking sections"? I'm not sure though...

This guy's been making endless requests and general low-quality posts. I wouldn't even bother.

You quite literally put my thoughts to words on this board. I hope to see some progress on this soon; looks like something that really has potential and to be different from ordinarily-designed ROM hacks

This is just a thread I thought of, where you could share whatever you think are your favourite ROM hacking tools for any console or game. Perhaps also generic file editing utilities too such as hex editors and debuggers.

I always found Lunar Magic was nice to use. Really well-polished especially for things like documentation which is usually lacking in RH editors. Another cool thing was the SMB3 Workshop tool, which I only experimented a little with, but seemed like quite nice of an editor.

Note that I never really bothered to make anything serious, just played around a bit; hopefully more seasoned scene members can input.

Hex editing tools, since they are universal.

Hmm... what's the best one for Windows? I've never really known the answer to this

Your answer makes a lot of sense though, so thanks for the input here

Hey, not to backseat mod or anything but Typing Like This Is Not Welcome Anywhere. It makes you look like a little kid trying to stand out.

Also, you didn't credit the original author(s)...

I think they come from Japan, could you maybe do an IP lookup and confirm that? (Obviously don't tell me anything, but it'd be nice for you to have some confirmation).

Anyhow, some of these resources are useful to new ROM hackers, so might as well leave the thread open as a quick reference...

I got clean Nintendo roms, so Nintendo will never find them.

Who said Nintendo themselves will track 'em down?

Also, as AlienType0 said, there's a lot of non-US based sites like ru******.org (censoring for legal reasons) that host torrents of full ROM sets, it will never truly go away, just become more obscure in general.

While EP was nice enough, their PSX redumps had a lot of hash mismatches (ie bad dumps) from what I recall, and their site design was terrible. I did appreciate what they did though, and that was introduce many to the Emulation and RH scene so its legacy won't be forgotten.

I'm someone who lurked as a kid, but finally joined. Initially to comment on the perceived state of the board but I'm finding myself learning more about ROM hacking as I look at threads/etc.

My username here is based on a song by Cubanate, a 90s British industrial rock band.

Maybe I'll have the courage and dedication to make a hack someday, who knows. It'd sure help me find something to do

Hope I enjoy and hopefully my presence is welcomed.

Hello everyone! We created a discord for SMB3 hacking which you can enter here. If you have any questions or are curious about any upcoming projects, we look forward to seeing you. Good day!

https://discord.gg/jbZhvEz

That's pretty cool. I'd like to see you perhaps refer people to this thread however and the board in general, would be a nice little treat. With such a seasoned scene member as Curly on the admin team, it'd be a bit of reassurance

A whole revamp would probably do the board really good. Cut out the other sections and do something like this:

==Important==
Announcements (not that much is done, but would be reassuring)
Help/Bug Reports/Suggestions
[staff forums etc]
==ROM Hacking==
ROM Hacking (keep as-is)
Mega Man Hacking (new forum)
SMB3 Hacking (new forum)
ROM Hacking Resources (miscellaneous tutorials by the community can go here, as well as tools that are currently being developed)
ROM Hacking Archives (for all cancelled hacks, and for anything of interest - Make sure threads are all locked beforehand)
==General==
General Chat (merge all other threads here basically)
Gaming (keep this one, it's still relevant to the board's topic)
Spatula (and this one, perhaps the revamp will help stuff)
==Landfill==
The Landfill
Post-Landfill (admins only: basically move any spam posts here away from public view, makes the board look cleaner to members and guests alike - and prevents more bots finding the board via keyword matches to common spam threads, leaving only ancient bots to deal with)

I think this particular listing is good enough for the community here, is enough to bring in new activity, etc. - I just hope a staffer (particularly blackhole89 as he is able to access the DB, though given he hasn't posted in 400+ days, I don't know...) can respond to this

BLOCK CAPITALS And Talking Like This isn't exactly a good way to convey your post. Plus it still kinda lacks detail as to your exact problem (other than the logo)...

Hm. I feel like even though that's offsite activity it's a bannable offence here. Though he seemingly got the message and posted in the right threads here...

I gotta say from a non-seasoned POV that I love the creativity that people show. It's moreso sometimes than the official developers, like in the case of SMW.

Just gotta say that I intended to bump this thread, though it's about a year old. I feel like this was a good thing to say

There's only one admin, and they're aware of it already (and given the last thread they made they'll probably be shown the door now)...
