08-08:03:27 <KP9000> there are three main core values of an editor
08-08:03:31 <KP9000> functionality
08-08:03:34 <KP9000> integrity
08-08:03:43 <KP9000> and usability
08-08:05:01 <interdpth> Penis
08-08:05:12 <KP9000> nah, you don't need that
08-08:12:17 <SuperMetroidFre> well then how will you turn it on?
08-08:18:20 <KP9000> you have to turn it on to use it?
08-08:18:24 <KP9000> ...XD
08-08:19:17 <KP9000> mine's plug and play
08-08:19:27 <KP9000> no drivers needed
08-08:19:41 <KP9000> (it's the high speed one too)
08-08:19:51 <interdpth> wtf

lol i remember reading that , penis was also the first thing that super ever had said to him in jzd wasnt it lol

edit these in a hex editor, theyre for unheadered roms:

starting at 84254: the manual fire cooldown for beams

starting at 84283: autofire cooldown for beams

i cant remember that power for the beams, theyre all mixed up when it comes to that

guys, i edited my post and put the offsets for unheadered roms there instead, i just put the headered ones there before because almost all ROMs have a header, and its confusing for beginners to add $200 and stuff, sorry. and i didnt mention a utility.

i didnt really take it personally, and like gideon said, it would be much easier if headers ceased to exist, but we are off topic so im shutting up too

i have a severely n00bish problem here:
i have done about 15% of my hack, when suddenly my changes in SMILE stop apearing when i play the ROM in an emulator. in SMILE theres the up to date version but in play its the days old (so far) version, i have made sure several times and its the same ROM (in case of stupid mistake), im so confused (and weed off).

1. you can either add rooms to the game as a whole using a hex editor, or move rooms from one zone to another, or both.
2. not that i know of
3. thats something ive been planning to do for my hack, it would take asm hacking
4. there are only certain events in the game (beating a certain boss, collecting morph ball and missiles, ect) that can be used as far as i know, but maybe there is a way to make new events.

it does take a very long time to get to know all about super metroid hacking y'know, i dont know all about SMILE myself

2) ... There is currently 1 unused area (DEBUG) you could use, which shouldn't take much work.

so using debug would do nothing to the ROM? is it just a normal area like crateria and brinstar? i thought (not that i had a reason) that it shouldnt be edited.

you make copies of species with a hex editor, you:
open the enemy in smile, find the address of its dna by searching the first few lots of data from the dna in the hex editor.
go to the last adress that ends in 'f' before the adress you get, and copy 64 bytes.
paste the data into an empty space end then in the enemy editor in smile, type the pointer of the enemy into the enemy id.

now my own questions:
ive copied enemies in the above way but when i change the pallette of the original species, it does the same for my copy, and vice versa. i changed the pallette pointer of my copy but nothing happened, what do i do?

why dont some enemies make use of the speed variable? what is the rule for which ones do?

SMILE shows the map space as giant, the maps have a much larger capacity than what is actually used. but when ive tried to use the full potential of the maps there is mess round the sides in game, it looks like the map is looping over itself. whats causing this? im guessing that the limitations are tighter than SMILE shows, but if there is a way to stop this happening i'd like to know. also, if SMILE shows the map space as larger than it actually is, why?

Hi there, recently I've been working on this super metroid hack, n00bsmasher. I've made it as hard as possible without ruining it (well, most of the people who have played have said its enjoyable as well as soul crushingly difficult).
It's rather short, but should take a long time to finish compared to its size, a few of the techniques it requires are mid-air-morph, wall jump, one sided wall jump, mockball, quick thinking and knowing the original game well, well times jumps and amazing skill.
One thing i really like about this hack, but also what may make it too hard, is my deathtroids (ASM enhanced metroids; you will know when you see them), which await in tourian.
For anyone who wants to play, here is a link to where you can get the IPS patch (for a headered ROM), but you may find that you are too big for your boots!
