Yikes, I'm sorry I maybe brought up some bad memories. I honestly don't remember much of the drama that happened there (just that there were some stuff happening leading up to the site's closure), I wasn't really active on there, just lurking and playing hacks. Anyways, it was sort of the place that got me into Acmlmboards in the first place considering it was running Blargboard.

Well, that certainly seems like an interesting ride, and made for a really nice read too. I've always personally vouched for XFCE myself due to their developers' "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude and the fact it is middleweight, though I have heard good things about KDE's resource usage these days (unlike back when Plasma released initially).
Oh yeah, XFCE... I actually burnt a Manjaro XFCE disc along with Manjaro GNOME for testing but I got too into KDE to try anything else, and I don't think I'd switch to anything in the near future. I heard it's good though, and one of the joys of Linux is being able to pick the desktop environment you like the most!

My personal first experience was back in August of 2015 with Xubuntu on an Atom N270 netbook, wasn't too bad. I remember liking the UI and how surprisingly simple it was to use compared to what I expected. Never used Arch (guess I lack the arrogance, just kidding), and I tend to lean towards Debian-based distros I guess. blackhole89 seems to be using Ubuntu MATE, for what it's worth
Debian is cool too, but it tends to get outdated quickly and if you want more recent software you'll have to jump through a lot of hoops to get it, which was the case for me with Ubuntu (Having to add PPAs and digging through the internet for newer packages that may or may not cause problems). That being said, it also makes it more stable and with less surprises on update. (Oh wow, this Cutter update looks different... Ah fuck, where's my projects? What do you mean "this is not a valid project file"?) While I prefer a much more cutting edge Arch-based distro for my desktop, my server runs Debian, which is nice because there's no real surprises, it's all stable and works like how I set it up even after several months.

In more ironic "FOSS stuff working better than the proprietary interfaces/co. that the Windows ecosystem provides" news, OpenGL outperforms DirectX on most scenarios, even on Windows.
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, but it tends to depend from program to program and their graphics implementation. In Euro Truck Simulator 2 in particular, the DirectX 11 graphics backend is way faster than the practically abandoned OpenGL backend (Which is the only backend on the native Linux version). Thankfully, the Windows version works flawlessly under Proton with the DirectX 11 backend, which Proton emulates using Vulkan IIRC. I'd even go as far as to say it's faster on Linux than Windows, which is pretty cool.

How has your year been so far?
It's been fine. I got to partake in the lovely experience that is online school and that was pretty fun I guess. Don't really know what else to say... I got some reverse engineering breakthroughs for Principia (that game I was talking about before), I launched principia-web, and I think that's just about it.

principia-web? Is that a Git/SVN repository, or a platform/service of sorts?
Well it's basically a site I've started that aims to be a complete reimplementation/recreation of the community site for the now abandoned game called Principia. The game itself was originally developed back in 2013-2014 by a company called Bithack AB, and it had a site connected to it where you could share levels and interact with the community, hence "community site".

They had been keeping the community site up (although with little to no communication after 2015 and onwards) all the way until early 2018 when they took it offline without any warning along with the forum and wiki, and since nobody had felt like scraping the levels (It would have taken four fucking lines of Python code! And yet nobody ever considered doing that!) or anything else for that matter it was all pretty much lost. Actually, I realized the game caches every level you've played on the community site, making us able to compile a pretty sizeable amount of the levels that existed on the community site.

Anyways, when we lost the community site we sort of got fragmented and split off. Most just isolated themselves and built stuff for their own enjoyment, perhaps uploading a small video of it to Youtube, but nothing more than that. We also had a rather small Discord server that was created way before the community site shut down, and that sort of became the place to be. I began to go around in Youtube comment sections and whatnot, trying to point everyone to that Discord server in order to collect everyone that was still left into one place. When I joined the server, it had around 40 members from what I can remember. Now we're over 100 members and growing.

However, sharing around levels in the Discord server was a bit of a pain. You'd have level ID conflicts, struggles to get people to use author IDs to prevent it from happening, and Discord is not really the place for that kind of stuff to begin with, it all gets disorganized. At the same time, we were all really longing for a new community site. One by the community, for the community and one that is run with a certain degree of transparency, compared to the official community site.

So from that, principia-web was born, and around the end of last year and beginning of this year, it was finally mature enough to be usable. I could go on about its development, from the various Principia reverse engineering breakthroughs we had along the way, to getting information about the game's level format from one of the developers we contacted, and also being able to make the unused in-game package functionality somewhat work through principia-web, but that would probably be way too long of a story, and this is already long as it is.

So here it is, principia-web. You might be interested, Principia is a pretty fun and nerdy game when you do get into it. There's all cool kinds of stuff like motors, logic gates, robotics, pixel art, Lua scripting, game objects, controllable robots (both ones you can build yourself and small robot objects)... pretty much everything you could think of really.

If there's Needle, Niidle and Noodle elsewhere, think you'll take the honour of registering 'Naadle' and 'Nuudle' elsewhere just to complete the set of vowels?
Perhaps. In that case I'd probably go for the full Swedish collection as well, so 'Nåådle', 'Näädle' and 'Nöödle'.

SNES muffle or MegaDrive twang?
Mmm... I think I'll pick the SNES muffle.

I'll look into it. I actually don't remember if I deliberately disabled it for some security reason or another, because if not, something about its database must have broken...
AFAIK you disabled it because of various vulnerabilities hiding about in it. If you bring it back please go through it first to sanitise all the user inputs (I remember the category ID input being vulnerable for instance)

Aand Jamie does it yet again. Talks shit about himself on another account only to turn around and go "aaa I wish I never registered here ever I ruined it for everyone". Anyways... (Also no I'm not yet another Jamie account)

By the way, there's a major exploit in the new reply page that I found today: one can steal password hashes via an unsanitised $_POST value (passenc). It's useless without the salt, but worth mentioning regardless. (The board also uses MD5 for hashing which is pretty insecure).
Giving it a second look passwords aren't even salted, just MD5 hashed. If you hash your password externally through md5sum and compare to the hash in passenc it will be identical. Frankly this probably isn't that much of a vulnerability, you will only see your own hash and you would need to spam requests to brute force a hash in an identical way to brute forcing the login page. The fact it passes this hash unsanitised into an SQL query is concerning but magic_quotes takes care of that, nothing out of the ordinary for Acmlmboard.

And then there's the random places that don't sanitise input properly (e.g. mood avatar selection in the post box and usermood.php itself), but they can't really be exploited as you can't escape the quoted string they are in thanks to magic_quotes. You can still break queries with it (e.g. creating empty threads or peeking in people's user mood avatars), and the fact you can upload mood avatars when not logged in is hilarious, but no actual SQL injection looks to be possible.

All in all though, seeing a place like this fall into disarray with no real maintainer to check up on it from time to time is just a tad bit depressing. I would quite like to see someone here becoming a moderator to take care of the regular spam and Jamie's mood swings (whether that be me or some ROM hacking regular here), I feel that would bring a lot of life to a forum that currently feels like an abandoned, autonomous ghost town. Some codebase fixups would be nice too and of course bringing back the uploader, I'd be willing to help with it if that's necessary.

Stick the derps and spammers in a woodchipper. Includes whoever this wowo2 and fake AcmIm person is. More strict registration checks would probably help random throwaways being made to spam.

So, I did a thing, and now I have an archive of the Board2 uploader spanning all the way to sometime 2015. Use it if you need to retrieve old files that were uploaded there some time ago, inside of the ZIP file each filename is named after its ID (the one that's at the end of the url, like get.php?id=1337).

https://archive.org/details/uploader-archive

There are a lot of empty files, I'm not sure if they've been lost or something.

...Also don't ask me how I got ahold of this, just enjoy. (To blackhole, your old server is still accessible with the right tricks)

ooh hi *waves* o.o

I don't really have much opinions on how the ROM hacking section should be restructured, other than that it should promote the topics that are the most active (which currently would be... mega man?). Hyped for Board2 getting a bit of a revival though, happy to be a part of it in some way.

Would find it to be really funny if the default theme was slightly changed in some way to throw people off (orange bar to green, make it leniency?), this theme has been around for over a decade now at this point so it'd be funny to spice things up a bit.

Thinking of requesting a name change to ROllerozxa?
Eh probably not, I'd rather have the accounts on here and on Kafuka be a little bit harder to link from my regular online persona.

Do you think the abracadabra palabra saga may have finally ended?
The real abracadabra palabra were the friends we made along the way.

How is the Google Play submission going?
Oh it went well, I had submitted it initially and it came back rejected because of an "invalid" privacy policy. I fixed it up and it's been up for a couple days now. It's Minetest-related, of course.

Think there should be a way to PM people with hugs as a unique feature?
Can't you just send a PM that says *hugs*... Though I would love some way to send (and receive) ACTUAL hugs over PM

You're genuinely unhinged, please just get off the internet at this point. I don't pay any attention to you anymore other than when you hop onto my forum and I have to clean up after you. Get some therapy or something, don't groom children and maybe you can do something more productive with your life.
