Wow! It looks like everything is fixed! I do not think there are any more problems which is AWESOME! Thank you guys for all of your hard work. This is in my honest opinion the best rom as it captures my first gaming experience as the Nintendo Entertainment System was the first console my brother and I received for Christmas back in either 1986 or 1987. i will never forget when we got it because it came with only 1 controller and we were small kids and we ended up fighting over Super Mario Bros. 1 and my uncle had to come and break it up. lol

Thank you to all who helped making this rom 100%! :>

Awesome! I cant wait to see what else you put in. I wonder if it will ever be possible in the future to add in Vs. Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. Special X1 Version. If not it is all good because this rom is my favorite of all time.

I played the newest patch and the unused Lakitu spiny egg toss makes the game more difficult and entertaining. Its awesome how he throws the spiny eggs in front of and behind of where you are running. Thank you! I havnt tested the Super Mario Bros 2 implementation yet.

Haha yeah I had a run for my money on the spiny eggs. I had to constantly stop and slow down. My oldest daughter was like "OMG!" lolol

Thanks MrPete! I cant wait to hear the results! :>

EDIT:

Okay I noticed when I select the first file of my save file on Super Mario Bros. 1 and when I hold A while pushing start it starts me on world 8-1. I do not think this is supposed to happen but it is indeed happening.

Hmm, quite honestly I'm not feeling the drive to add those 2 small durations. I thought it was something more that was missing. On top of that, I haven't learned how to utilize the extra square channels within the mmc5, I've only worked with the raw pcm. Plus, that Famicom sound is quite unique, idk if a square channel can duplicate it. I'm more than willing to chat with someone who has experience in utilizing the square channels with the mmc5.

The ony way to know if the theme song can play with no problems is playing it on an actual cart. I have a few Super Mario Bros 2J on NES cart and I will try to play them all to see if I find any issues with the music on my Retron 3.

Idk if the waveform data for the expanded audio is in this .fds to .nes conversion. I have the kevtris hdmi for my Nintendo, which allows playback of the expanded .fds audio. The cartridge that I had made for me long ago, I could test it out to find out if the waveform data was left intact from the conversion I've been working with.

That would be better if you tried it since you are using the actual rom for this hack. I would advise using a game genie or cheats if possible if you are using a retron 5 to help get through the game faster because Super Mario Bros 2J can be a real pain to beat.

Whoa! That is crazy! I wonder if it is possible to simply use the ending song from Super Mario Bros 1? It is the same song and to be honest I really do not care to have the Super Mario Bros 2J song from the FDS as it is simply the same song. That would be the easiest fix in my honest opinion so it will play properly when put onto an NES cart and played on an actual NES system like for example the original NES system.

Use game genie to get through Super Mario Bros 2J. Make sure to turn on the fly jump code but be careful in castles because you will get stuck at the top when you make it to King Koopa. A game genie is a must to have if you have the old school games on actual carts.

I also found a patch for mario 1 and 2j which changes the ? blocks to the JPN 25th anniversary blocks. Seems fitting.

Please dont change the ? blocks to the 25th anniversary blocks. They are iconic as they are. Dont ruin them.

Well I would say yes and no. You could have one version with the normal ? blocks and another version which is exactly the same with the 25th Anniversary blocks. But I would only advise doing this once you are absolutely 100% sure that the rom is finally done.

Well, I guess if its a separate IPS patch that you can do after the patch to make the ROM. That should be OK as then it be optional.

Yeah it should be like that so that people who like the ? blocks to be the same can leave it that way and those who want the 25th anniversary blocks can have it patched to have it changed.

Not really working out, tried using one of MMC5's pulse channels, but it just doesn't sound right at all. Tried mimicking the same $4000 APU, but that didn't seem to work out either.

To be honest if you cannot fix the sound issue I think the best solution would simply change the ending song to the Super Mario Bros ending song. The Super Mario Bros ending song is a continuous loop wherein the Super Mario Bros 2 is the entire song. And the Super Mario 2 ending song has different musical elements to it than the Super Mario Bros 1 ending song due to it being for the FDS console as this is evident with other FDS games which were later ported to the NES like Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link. But if all options fail that would be the best thing to do if it is possible. I do not have any knowledge on rom hacking as I am just offering a suggestion if it is at all possible. Here are both songs so you can see the differences.

Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) Music - Ending - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W-cW20snPg

I just defeated Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan on my HDMI NES. This HDMI device allows the output of all the known expansion sound chips found on different cartridges. So, with the .FDS audio option enabled, I saved Princess Toadstool, and the .FDS expanded audio played on my system! So for those that want to hear this for themselves on a Nintendo system, you will need Kevtris's HDMI NES kit.

Thats good news. The only problem is that some people only have normal consoles like me as I have the Retron 3 for my kids.

I played through the entire Super Mario Bros 2J of this Super Mario All-Stars rom hack on Nestopia on my pc and the ending song plays complete and not a loop just like the FDS version but with the Super Mario Bros 1 sound effects. Now I wonder if played on an NES or Retro 3 will the song still play but with Super Mario Bros 1 sound effects and not the FDS sound effects.

Yes, it should still play with SMB1 sound effects.

On a side note: I can't recommend to play on Retron 3 or 5.

Please test games on actual, official hardware.

I dont have an actual NES right now. I dont even have Super Mario All-Stars on an NES cart yet.

I tried the new patch and I notice on Super Mario Bros 1 and 2 the song skips at 2 points and it is the same exact spots even after the the song loop restarts.

?? during the 5 game selection screen?

It happened on the title screen when the rom first starts on that song and then it happens on the Super Mario Bros 1 & 2 world song on the first level on both games. I am using Nestopia.

It's not happening for me, I even deleted every config file created for it. I never touched anything to interfere with the title screen. That is kind of bizzare. But nothing I did would have an impact on the game selection screen. I've done the same with all 3 PC emulators.

Its not happening anymore for me. I dont know why it did it but I made sure to delete my save files before starting the game. I did notice on Super Mario Bros 2J that when the wind starts to blow on level 5-1 the leavs are a still animation and not a motion. Start the video at 11:50 to see the animation of the leaves - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IutMjR5ofSQ - on this video. Also on Super Mario Bros 2J the red piranha plants are supposed to still come out of the pipes even when you are standing on the pipes but on this rom hack they only keep coming out when standing next to the pipe.

I am playing the official .FDS version of Mario 2J. The red piranha plants are not bitting Mario from underneath. Idk what you are watching, but I have the .fds playing and it's not happening for me.

However, the leaves you mention, those do blow around in the .FDS, I don't know why they are not doing the same with my version. I'll have to take a look when I can.

Are you playing the actual Famicom Disk System or a rom hack? Because from what I know the piranha plants are supposed to keep coming out of the pipes even when you stand on the pipes. I will find a video of the actual FDS game and see if they stand on the pipes long enough to demonstrate this.

EDIT

Ok, from the 2 videos that I just watched the only red piranha plants that continue to come out of the pipes are the upside down pipes. I do own 1 or 2 Super Mario Bros 2J for NES in which the red piranha plants still come out of the pipes while standing on them. so that may be the reason why I remember this. But I will never know unless I play the actual game on an actual Famicom Disk System console.

The file you uploaded is not a patch file. It is named "Connect 4 (alpha_5-4-17)". And I wish I was familiar with rom hacking because I would help you with anything I could possibly offer if I did.

Why are you mentioning connect 4 in this thread and not the other?

It's not a patch file, because it's not copyrighted material. This is a homebrew game I made for the system, so I'm allowed to upload the rom itself.

I just downloaded the new upload of the Super Mario All-Stars game of yours and I am just letting you know that is the file it gave and not a patch. I am simply informing. If you would like I will not say anything more.
