The Landing Site, I'd make the wall to the right of the image less uniform. Maybe add a jut in or out along the way up or something.

The rest look really cool, and it's something I'd like to try out sometime. My only real comment the second-to-last shot, the one with the revealed Super Bomb tiles. It just looks strange coming out like that--when it's not revealed it looks fine, of course. I was just thinking just change the graphic of the revealed tile to look possible like metallic rocks or something, but then I wasn't sure if all tiles like that would change (maybe in a different area without rocks, the Super Bomb tiles would then look strange) or something. Do you know if each tileset uses separate tiles or are those specific tiles always shared between them all :?

There's like seven FFI hacks I never finished.

A Fire Emblem Gaiden remix. The first Fire Emblem as a remake, one with new graphics, and then one with Oracle or Seasons/Ages graphics and it being primarily a level hack which never was finished.
A whole bunch of new graphics for one of the GBA Fire Emblems that never were put into the game.

Text and graphics for Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo (FE3).

A remake of Famicom Wars, to make it look more similiar to the GBA games, as well as some from Dual Strike.

The original Itadaki Street hacked to resemble the newer cross-over versions fo the game, specifically for Nintendo only.

A cool Kid Icarus hack I wanted to finish but never got around to it.

Spiritual Warfare on the NES made to resemble Zelda a little more.

An old old old Super Mario World thing I messed with a couple of times. Same for Link to the Past.

Here's some random photobuckets with pics. If anyone wants these, you're welcome to have 'em--I haven't them time to finish anything. In fact, over all the years I've messed around with hacking, I've only finished my first real hack, Ancients Wish for FFI and a small Pac-Man hack for the NES ._.

http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/Diadora/FESS/Maps/
http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/Diadora/FESS/Mugs/

Some of the stuff is really really old and some only months old.

EDIT: seems the Famicom Wars pics aren't in those. If anyone want sto see those, ask and I'll look through the bucket and try to find them--or you might :/

You'll be pleased to hear then that I intend to bring back the Artillery Train.

Goddamn I love trains.

Along with the rest of what you put, I'd send you money to finish the thing. Really--this is the only real thing I've looked forward to hacking-wise in months, if not a year or so ^^

Rails should have stayed--they actually quite strategic when they were placed in the right fashion, and at least gave a really different sense of the land. Pipes were basically walls D:

I assume you can have areas you can walk into, but never show on the map? You could hide an area away for later exploration in some crags near the top, and give the player hints else where.

While I'm certainly not the most advanced hacker out there, that looks just like he plopped his own graphics in there how he wanted (like you have in YY-CHR) and then changed the TSA.

Since it usually doesn't matter how the graphics are placed in the ROM. Just that the game knows which tiles are used to comprise larger tiles.

This is just a short video showing off some of the assembly hacks I'd mentioned earlier. (And probably one or two you might not have seen).

There's 4 hacks shown off here, see if you can spot them all.

I haven't played an Advance Wars in a little while, especially AW2, but at least I noticed that air units are deployable from an HQ--I don't think I remember that in Famicom Wars or Super Famicom Wars. Also Green Earth loading Blue Moon's palette(s?) even if I think each army actually keeping their nation's colors is a good thing, unlike most of the other series where palette is depending on player order

Nah, I liked the first. If you like the second one better though, I'd suggest you go with the other's hair :/

How come the tiles in YY-CHR are nicely placed?
Tiles are never structured like this in a ROM...
How can YY-CHR figure how to dispose the tiles so they form intelligible pictures?

I've seen that will other game's screenshot, including Zelda I and Mario 2...

YY-CHR comes with pre-made "arrangements" which games have been found to use. You cna cycle through about eight or ten of 'em, which may change graphics from viewable but strangely arranged on their side into standard looking thingers.

There's games out there without any strange arrangments. But for the ones where there aren't, I just do like the other guys--arrange it in YY-CHR separately and then dump it in later. Also, if I'm working on an actual thing, I almost always end up rearranging which tiles are which, so in the process, I modify the TSA of a bunch of stuff. I make it look normal to me in the editor, basically :/

I really like how you were able to go underneath the save station into a larger area, for some reason. It seems a lot more original than what the original team had in mind. If you've the skill, I think it'd look nice to have the sky showing in the background through some cracks in the walls or something.

The boss battle--I always hated that guy. But it also seemed kinda cool and new. That could just be my lack of scrollin' Metroid action for a few years though. The only real thing I thought was lacking was that a lot of the structures were squarish. For me, those kinds of areas always seem so empty :/

It looks to be a lot more explorative. I'm paying attention ^^

Oooh. I might mess around with this a little some other time. Were you going to look into anything else, like some simple palette or name offsets as well :? When the thing first came out, I thought most of the COs were kinda dull--I was wanting to swap the mayor or Davis or whomever and try for a little more fun, but was too lazy to bother decompiling the ROM :/

Especially as the promising ability of not having to reboot the ROM to see changes isn't all too greater than simply rebooting the ROM. Especially if you have a savestate handy (make sure the data you're modifying has a way of "reloading" from the saved RAM). This takes, what, five seconds?

Specifically, the color rolls are individual palettes, if memory serves (an older acmlm had an entire thread dedicated to FF1 and its data); something about each color that rolls is dependent on the color before it or something. You could try looking for said-archive of acmlm, but that may not be the answer you're looking for after all ._.

Comments?

Expect a lot of attention to be given to this editor upon release. At least I sincerely hope so--this is supposedly one of those games that everyone loves to death. I'm sure a few wouldn't mind making their own versions of the story through the editor, not to mention with all this fancy manipulation of customness to boot! I might actually get around to hacking again when this is released ^^

Yeah, self-playing levels have been around on Super Mario World forever. They even have some which play along to the rhythm of a song too (I wouldn't mind an actual game like this some day) :o

Well, you can always ask for their data findings and do it yourself, or see if it's uploaded to the site or something... But then again, I'm personally waiting for the editor, as it makes editing go tons faster than by hand :E

For example, we wrote an Event Preview system today. It allows you to preview any Event Script in game with the click of a button, rather than setting everything up in a demo ROM, and making your own save states. Were likely going to modify it to preview the Levels in addition so you can quickly see what they look and play like without all the hassles. We will probably post a video of that tomorrow. I'm looking forward to a sleep marathon (been awake 28h).

Now that event preview is sexy as hell. But the levels... not that's bad, but it seems kinda taxing--do you mean just a preview or actually moving around (slightly ambiguous, but hey, we'll know tomorrow).

Damn, this thing is kinda reminding me of FFHackster. Everything that's needed to be edited seems to be editable from within the editor, (editeditedit) :o

One brute force method to finding data is to corrupt the ROM by half, and see if what you're looking for is located in there. And then into fourths, then eights, and so on until you find what you're looking for.

It can also be used, depending on the options given, to help figure out what data is what exactly, by observing the changes that happen (this is a much more controlled kinda thing, and is kinda hard to explain).

That's all I can think of--haven't done anything like it since I was looking for terrain data in Famicom Wars years ago :/
