well aside from my joke post I associated all the hints to having a "hidden" quality.

The Golden Land is hidden and sealed away by the sages.

Fake, being not real, imaginary. The imagination is hidden in one's mind, and only one can imagine what's hidden in the world or in life.

Three Eye Rock, the palace is hidden/veiled and only by using the flute would you find its location.

Error, as in computer bug. an unwanted, usually hidden defect in a program. The picture perhaps relating to the Minish being hidden.

The dummy info.. in context of clue 5, "zelda freak knows more then he says", surely was hiding the fact that you simply had to answer the question stated and not interpret the phrase in some way.

Finally, step 6 the number code "hides" the hint, which refers to all the other hints relating to everything being "hidden", taking us back to step 6, like a looping paradox, lol.

Unfortunately this wasn't what he was looking for.

I noticed the most recent steps of Okibi have been very literal, so its probably the same for this also. only problem is choosing which part of the steps for the answer.

There was no mention of Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages/Seasons and Majora's Mask either as far as I know, but it might still make sense ... A Link To The Past was Zelda 3, after all

Well in step 2, the fake rom was a Link's Awakening DX Hack..I'm not sure if it would actually have anything to do with it.

Somehow the Link to the Past bit sounds too obscure..

On the main page it has something about RO-Lines..I already emailed Okibi about it and got a lengthy reply. It has something to do with the store credit line where he shares 60% with its members or something like that. Info here: http://www.ratedo.com/ro-funds.php

I'm still reading through it to make sure I understand everything. at the end its signed

"If you actually read all that, tell me... would you like to sign up and get free
money and free games for doing absolutely nothing? You'll get a hint once you
reply to this email."

Edit: The reply,
"Does this have anything to do with the contest? Nope. Not at all. I just wanted
more people to know about RO-Lines. You don't have to sign up for the hint
either. Here is your hint:

What Step are you on? Wrong. You're on Step 1."

I don't know how to really relates to the riddle, but I believe there is a Youtube video that shows how to get the triforce underneath Zelda's castle (in OoT).

The triforce that you see in that video is actually the one on Link's hand. since the floor forces the camera closer to link you can see under his gauntlet.

"Email Zeldafreak to get the URL to where the rom is located"? Could be it.

Figuring his email would be "zeldafreak@ratedo.com" I mailed my answer there. I verified the address by using The Way Back Machine. Unfortunately the mail got returned to me, so I don't think that's it.

I know I emailed the "zeldafreak" from rated o a while back, and asked if he knew anything about the contest, and I got no reply. So he could have got it, and I just didn't say the right thing. Did anyone try asking him for the URL yet?

what would the email be then? When I emailed I got a delivery failure.

You guys are on the wrong track. We need to answer the first question. The 5 hints somehow ties in with how we're supposed to answer.

Let's see if I can do an overview..

On the main project Zero page, there's a simple question we have to answer..

"To win the grand prize, all you have to do is answer one single question...

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was considered odd because of the inability to obtain the Triforce, or so it seemed. Many rumors can be found on the internet explaining how to obtain the Triforce. My question for you is... where is the Triforce located?"

Answer this and we get the rom, but simply answering it isn't enough or else someone would've won it from the start of the contest.

Five steps five hints applies to answering this one question. When I tried answering including the "hints" from the previous steps I found out the hints don't have to be included, rather they tell you how to respond to it.

Next I tried sending the rom back to Okibi, including a picture in Old Hylian with my answer to the question using the same password...a shot in the dark since I couldn't concentrate, and it was still wrong.

My latest attempt involves what actions needed to be taken on each step in order to proceed. I roughly thought up this:

answering/responding question
reasoning, playing game, or URL
research hojo clan/information
explaining bug and error
translate hylian

So my next response was sort of a research paper, citing references (web links) and quotes and explaining what each quote meant in laymans...I think I've gotten closer with this response...although my thinking is all wrong the hints I thought up were somewhat close.

This is where I'm currently at. I can't help but feel the answer is staring me back in the face, but I don't notice it because I'm too distracted with everything else.

Well, I'd have to say step 4 is the movie, because all that was about 3's and since the triforce is 3 pieces...

1)
2) play game
3) web hunt
4) watch movie
5) translate text

I have no idea what would be for #1 though...partly because I don't understand step #1 - Drag said step 1 & 2 were like the same step. All I can think of is that step 1 is something like receiving something...

I think you're getting it confused. Step 4 is about Minish Cap Zelda and Bug and Error. Step 3 is about web hunting for information about the Hojo clan, which involves dragon scales, which gets linked to Barba and Three Eye Rock.

I'm trying the "send the rom in a password protected zip, which points to web page, which has pictures with answers written in Hylian" again. Trying "The Sacred Realm" and "zelda freak knows more then he tells" as answers..

I'm really running out of ideas. I don't really see how else the other steps aside from step 5 would relate to how you answer the question, without actually just mimicing all the steps back to him.

I was starting to think Step 4 would be "Winning the contest", because Zelda wins the raffle/drawing at the festival and gets the shield. In this case it would be the rom, wouldn't it? ^^;

For those interested, here is our current state with this contest:

Read the bottom subtitle. Did I just stumble upon the answer?? I can only hope.

Adding in a joke, you might notice the three transformations on top of the triforce pieces.

So, Ganon gets to transform into this huge Pig using the Triforce of Power, right?

And Zelda, she gets to turn into Sheik with the Triforce of Wisdom.

But what about Link? He gets to be 7 years older. XD

But I guess it could be argued that his heart was infused with the courage to face any danger, but it still doesn't refute that he got the short end of the stick XD

And one more joke. The triforce reflects the heart of the user. So Ganon being evil turns into this huge Pig Demon.

Doesn't that mean Zelda's actually a cross dresser, or seme of a relationship? XD

OH YEAH! Hu hu hu hu ha ha ha

Edit 6:
No win However date extension until noon today for users on this board.

Another hint: What do the steps have to do with the question? Let's not play Jeopardy here!

Edit 7:
and another..

Let me make this simple...

There is a question on the Project Zero page.

If you solve the question by putting the answer into the 7z archive, you start a chain of events giving you 5 hints.

If you read WHAT TO DO, you can see that you only need to answer one question, but may have to work for it.

Work for it...

YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION!!!

In case that still didn't help, let me break it down for you. The "question" you have is too vague, like many have pointed out. However, what is it really asking? Look to the hints for help.

And yes, it does matter how you answer.

-okibi

Someone on this board, use your divine intellect to solve this simple question.

I understand what he's saying..I still can't get the specifics for answering the broad question of where the Triforce is located out of these hints.

My brain has left for vacation.

Edit 8:
1. answer question
2.play game
3. 3's
4. i am error
5. translate text

"answer Zelda 3's error translation"

the title in the US is "A Link to the Past", but in Japan its known as "Kamigami no Triforce", or Triforce of the Gods.

I suppose the game marks the series where they expain in depth on the story of the Triforce and the powers it grants you. Why they would call it "A Link to the Past" in the US...I actually have no clue...it almost sounds like a prelude to Ocarina of Time...in Zelda 3 Link doesn't travel back in time, but travels between worlds...the Light and Dark worlds.

Perhaps the title is homage the Triforce's history, and how current Hyrule's people links to the ancient ones (as how Link is of Royal Blood, and the ancient sages with the 7 Maidens)

This somehow feels like the closest answer I've come to.

Does this answer the question though? where the triforce is located I assume would be on the Japanese title..the golden land is better connected to this game then with OoT since its called the Sacred Realm in that game.

Edit 9:
This answer was wrong. Feeling so hopeless right now..

Who cares anymore?

Contest: 10 (March 2007)
Grand Prize: ZELDA III NES PROTO ROM STRAIGHT FROM OKIBI!!!
Starts: 3/2/2007
Ends: 4/25/2007 - last day for submissions! winner announced on the 26th, if there is one.

The game is over.

like I said, he gave an extension for Acmlm's members for an answer by noon today.....

NOW its game over. Was this all for naught?

I guess I could take it as a learning experience since I stretched my logical ability to the max. Also learned some extra things on how my thought process works. Too bad I couldn't lay this mystery to rest.

I just love how people jump to conclusions just because the contest wasn't won. Of course you can't verify it, and I can understand why people would be frustrated. But because you're so bothered by it, you're free to make up any excuse you want just to feel at ease??

Here's something to think about:

During the last couple of days of the contest, I started receiving a lot of hints, maybe it was because I was asking the right questions, but it sure seemed like he wanted someone to win. As an example, my submission:

> aarrggh, this is frustrating. xkeeper's clue of "Wrong. You are on Step 4"
> So the numbers don't really mean anything. What's bugging me even more,
> why would a question be considered wrong? Unless you're asking the wrong
> question.
>
> hrm...how about "What Hint are you on?"
>
> Then again, you could be asking me the question, and answering it in
> advance.I would more then likely say "Step 6" in which your response would
> be that I'm wrong. I have yet to figure out what the cycle of numbers could
> mean...
>
> But assuming you weren't intending the puzzle to be solved by a group, an
> individual wouldn't know immediately the numbers are shuffled, so that's
> probably not part of the equation..
>

This was the type of questions I asked. The response I got was what Drag posted in the boards earlier.

Posted by Drag
Once again, Gzila comes through with another awesome hint!
Posted by "Gzila"
"Anyways, the numbers are just there to
tell you that you aren't where you think you are. The Wrong is telling
you that you are over thinking everything. The question refers to
putting the steps together in your head."

The latest hint I got from him. All I've thought about so far is in the first part (question), its pertaining to 5 steps, 5 hints, something that we've been trying to put together. the "wrong" we've also been overthinking it. so where would the numbers fit..I know from xkeeper's post that the numbers really don't mean anything, since they kept changing.

So we're overthinking everything?

Also, I'm not sure how Gzila keeps getting these hints, but they're pretty good.

And another:

"The end is drawing near and honestly, I thought you'd figure it out by
now.

Here is a hint that should help...

"Five steps five hints" ties together with the latest hint I gave YOU.
There is truly only one step, the other 5 steps are hints to solve that
one step. Read the Project Zero page. There is ONE STEP!

Have a good day!

-okibi"

But because I received so many hints lead me to believe that he really wanted someone to win the rom. I seriously doubt he was doing it merely to "toy" with me or some other bullshit like that.

It was "whoopee two freee shitty NES games from the Rated O store!"

Like Fails said, the only thing actually worth wasting your funnymoney dollars on would be TMNT and SMB3

I already have those games, so I went with Batman and Street Fighter 2010.

Also, how many people from here entered in that contest? I was a bit surprised when I actually won. I did jump on it as soon as possible, which was a day after the contest started, so I had about 5 entries into it.
