I've been trying to locate Mega Man 5 graphic data for the title screen (Tile and Location) in the rom, and I'm just not finding it.
I've tried several places, but I can't find the tiles and I can't find the pointers for where they go. If anyone happens to know what offset these start at, that would be a huge help. (and if you could tell me how you found it that would be even better) Thanks! |

Posted by Trinitronity I think a full disassembly of anything would be useful. But it's a lot of work. More than a lot of people would want, and honestly, probably a lot less useful than just having a list of important hex addresses and what they're for. If you get good with the FCEUX debugger, you can essentially disassemble the ROM yourself. It pulls everything into ASM; and you can even replace specific addresses with words (symbolic naming), so if you were patient enough, you could do exactly what you said with your magnetman example... Just a thought. |

Hey! I had a thought.
I started playing classic MM again and started watching speed runs of games, then started getting decent at setting up zips and clips in MM2. To get better at certain zips (like Item-2 Bubbleman zip), I thought it'd be cool to make something that relied on using Items 1, 2, and 3 in order to get through levels. And I wanted to build in graphics to say how to do it, but maybe that's overreaching for how much time I want to spend. So to start, I've hacked MM2 so that the items don't run out of energy, and as soon as I figure it out (shouldn't be too bad), I'll have MM start with all Items, too. Anyway, I'm using Visine for the level editor. Anyone have better utilities available? It seems to do pretty much what I want it to, but it isn't always super friendly. Rock5easily has one that looks really slick, but I can't read Japanese, and I couldn't find a translated version. Any feedback/criticism is appreciated. |

I appreciate all the support everyone put forward on this one a while back.
Like my last attempt at this, the project's dead. I had some pretty big plans, and never got past my inability to code the bullet reflect... So, yeah. Nothing from me. But hey! Someone did make a SOLID protoman hack of MM5, and it's freaking awesome: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3638/ Huge thanks to MetHy/Ness. If I ever get back into this, I may pull some ideas (with permission) |

Posted by rock5easilyPosted by TrinitronityPosted by DurfarC I was digging around looking for some tools to help on a new hack idea... Mega Man 2 - Zip Practice *working title* Got fed up with guessing at what the buttons meant. Rockman2 editor English translation is here now: https://www.himaq5.xyz/rock5easily/archive/r2e_eng.zip Hope that's official; it's where I found it, and is working fine for me. Couldn't find the translation on RHdN. |

Posted by EggplantPimpPosted by caesur4 I found the English Translation of rock5easily's Rockman2 Editor here: here Also, meant to say thanks; I had seen those, and thought maybe that one by kuwata would work for me, but I couldn't get it running despite whitelisting it. edit: fixed link, and added response I meant to include earlier |
