+1 for using VLC, -5 for using PNG where JPEG would have been much smaller at comparable quality.  |

NP is kid-friendly. I had a subscription for a few years before I had the interweb, but when you have that, magazines aren't much use. |

See also: my remote admin/system lockdown program, my media player, my replacement shell, my IM program, my Tetris Attack clone, my Metroid clone, my Zelda clone, my Game Boy PDA app, my Windows debugger, my web browser, my wallpaper sharing site, my BitTorrent client, my SMB1 hack, my SMB2 hack, my SMB3 hack, my Zelda hack, my Final Fantasy hack, all but one of my SMW hacks (which hasn't seen any development in ages, but hasn't officially been cancelled ), my automatic soldering machine... all old ideas that never got very far, or in some cases, didn't even get started. |

Not necessarily. In my case I don't care for a phone with an MP3 player or camera in it because I already have both of those things and they work much better than any built into a phone will. (6 megapixel camera, hacked DS as MP3 player = support for damn near every format ever created and homebrew. Show me phones with these features?) And (again) because contracts FTL.
The only real upsides to a fancy phone is it takes up less room in your pocket (so get bigger pockets) and if you're using it to play music it can interrupt when you get a call (so use vibrate mode and just pause the damn thing). Meanwhile you have the disadvantages of having all your eggs in one basket and potential difficulty multitasking. (How do you take notes during a call when your notepad is your phone?) |

Yeah, IPS can't modify anything past the first 16 bytes, and some hackishness is required to modify address 0x454F46 (ASCII "EOF"). I'd love to see a patch format that actually supports moving and repointing data, but I guess nobody's going to actually make one. |

Is the mystery value a checksum? I'd have used one if I were them, given the number of times my traded Pokémon got corrupted during transfer on the GBC. |

Yeah, I've never heard of "spastic" being used as an insult. (Spaz, however, I have seen.)
You have to keep in mind though that this game is supposed to be kid-friendly, so anything offensive has to go. If it were say Zelda or something, I'd be a lot quicker to disagree with the decision. |
