Hey shanem, thanks for posting and sharing here. I hope you stick around man, i think you are an awesome hacker with serious skills as well as an all around great guy to even share your work and your code with the community.

Keep the hits coming, stay a while, hell, stay forever, LMAO.

Thank you. Knowing that my works are appreciated makes it worth doing more hacks. Will do. Also, if you don't know how to switch disk sides to get SMB2J on Side B, the info is on the first post on this thread. Enjoy.

As Chaobomr is testing, I am too.

This will have a release date of 03/12/14. Thanks for everybody's patience in waiting. I usually don't even release hacks this much later on my website, but I'm really testing for quality assurance.

Alright, I'm getting extremely frustrated here with trying to get the Mario 3 map editor to point to one of the lost levels. I've figured that I'd put 3 extra levels in World 1 so that there's 9 total regular levels. I'll tell you exactly what I did and how I'm getting the problem that I've been getting. So I go to the pointers mode, and hit enter to select a level. I go to choose Lost Levels 1 to set as a level I want on the map. So I go and set my Object Data to 1FD78 just like it says in my rom, and set the Enemy Data to C570 just like in the rom. I set the Object Set to 1-Plain, and then when I go to save it and try to test the level all I end up getting is Mario coming up out of the pipe from the end of that level. Which is not what I want, what do I do here?

What did you hit "enter level" over? Was it, say, Hammer Bros tile? Anyway, I just tried it on bene's map and it works. Here's what I did: I clicked on World 1, I selected the Pointer mode, then I hit enter over a Hammer Bros tile, it then asks me to select a level. I select Lost 1-Plains (Object 0x1e75c and Enemy 0xc1bb) and clicked "OK" and it worked. Try that.

EDIT: I can tell you now, the Object data and Enemy data you listed were wrong. Try mine.

EDIT2: I found you error. You entered 1-5's ending, which is why it was showing up. Use my offsets.

EDIT3: Dude just use this doc to find the offsets since you are new to this: http://www.romhacking.net/documents/422/

I really like your idea and think it's creative. Though, I pretty much resurrected all the lost levels in my SMB3 hack, which includes all the old levels, e-levels and 4 new levels (109 in total). Though, there's nothing wrong with some good competition.

http://acmlm.kafuka.org/board/thread.php?id=7872

EDIT: I still want you to know that I encourage you to make this hack and that I know it can be hard when starting out hacking something like this.

Edit-I think I may need to learn a little bit of ASM to be able to put name for the levels.

Start here: http://skilldrick.github.io/easy6502/ and as a reference to the mnemonics http://www.obelisk.demon.co.uk/6502/reference.html

I personally used those when I was starting out about a year and a half ago. Good luck.

Thanks shanem, im currently playing through it now on nestopia with no issues whatsover. Looks awesome, its always cool to see someone go the extra mile to restore deleted things in games, especially one like this.

Which one are you currently trying out? SMB1 (Side A) or SMB2J (Side B)?

@RetroRain

I just wanted to say that I like your hack and the new title screen. The SRAM saving was a good feature, too. Back then, I knew they used passwords in place since SRAM saving was a new concept

Okay. I hope that you enjoy it.

When you finish playing it, you are free to share you thoughts on it and possible ideas on what I can do to improve on it. So far, from FB and my own forum, people seem to like the translation of 9-4 and the lives fix the most. (The one where you'd get a Game Over if you get more than 128 lives https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMWJXGvCiLY)

So I'm trying to edit a water level in World 3, and I want it to be a completely waterfall level for the most part. So I have the waterfall broken up into 2 parts because it has to be. So the top half of the waterfall seems to work fine with me wanting to put pipes and blocks, etc in it. But then the bottom half of the waterfall won't allow me to put pipes and everything else in it without the game "hiding" the pipes and everything from sight.

Oh...The waterfall has higher Z-order. In other words, it has more priority than the other objects. One thing that I did was use the object with the lowest Z-order when that happened to me. Hope it works here.

Wednesday is the big day!

Okay, I added a new sprite in addition to the Nippon ones. I added the Bullet Bill from SMW for when you beat Special world!

If you look at this album, you can see what I mean. This is what I should've said in the first place....Anyways, yeah.

http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Ryan_J_Benner/library/?sort=3&page=1

The first photo is where part of the pipe is behind the waterfall, this isn't what I want. :-(
The second photo is where part of the pipe is correctly positioned. :-)

I was correct. Again, this is a z-order issue. The waterfall uses 4 bytes whereas the pipe uses 3. Use another 4 byte object with lower z-order and turn it into a waterfall.

EDIT: To make a picture show up with Photobucket, click on the "IMG" button on the right-hand side and paste IMG until the end of it.

EDIT2: Is this kinda what you wanted to do?

Do I put the code that's commented out at BoxOut_ByVStart? How do I include the sync information? Should I just disassemble your version of my demo just for comparison?

I actually added it at the end of my assembly work. I lost my original files way back last August, in which I fixed bugs and added code for the unused ghost house.

If you want, you can do a hex comparison against a clean copy of your hack to find differences in hex.

Box-out effect was done in December. 4 months after I lost my original files. What I did was JMPs to the code at the end of bank $3F. I added the sound which took no additional space at all, merely changing existing data. The way I added it to your hack was a simple copy + paste from my SMB3 hack using a hex editor. Though, it basically does exactly the same thing of the code I listed above. If you can't find it, I'll just give you the answers in hex. Cool.

There was an oversight on my part. I seem to have overlooked the Celadon Game Corner data and how it is different in Red Japan. That has now been corrected. Here is the final Red. Green is fine.

I corrected level designs in two levels that I initially overlooked (4-1 pipe made longer at beginning and 7-4 lava added at the end). There are no known glitches so far.

sweet! is the new sprite in the 1.5 and 2j? Or is this sprite only for ANNSMB? I see you said Wednesday is the big day. Is it coming out today? Looks awesome!

The sprites are limited to the promotional SMB only. That is a custom sprite that I remade from SMW (when Special world is completed). In addition, I've used the custom Koopa "mask" sprite from SMW, too.

@Everyone

ANNSMB is really a hack on SMB2J to begin with. What I did was create mine from my SMB1 game, SMB1.5.

But there's more! I've also been working on a previous ANNSMB in which I use the original Nintendo version, in which they originally hacked SMB2J. So, what to do? I could have included both versions of the same game on different disk sides but I didn't. I did something more creative. I've made a brand new game, All Evening Nippon SMB on disk Side B!!!!

Similar to my SMB1+2J game, this one is a 2-in-1, with ANNSMB on Side A and AENSMB on Side B. Enjoy and give me feedback. I'm tired of dozens of people playing my games and not so much as even 1 comment on if they found glitches or any other comment.

NOTE: SINCE AENSMB IS A HACK OF ANNSMB WHICH IS INITIALLY A HACK OF SMB2J, UPON COMPLETION OF THE GAME 8 TIMES, YOU WILL ACCUMULATE 8 STARS ON THE TITLE SCREEN, PRESSING AND HOLDING A + START WILL TAKE THE PLAYER ONTO WORLDS A-D. ENJOY

ANNSMB Changes:
-They are a surprise!

AENSMB:
-This is a hack of the original ANNSMB with evening palettes to fit the theme
-Player starts with 5 lives rather than 3
-Worlds A-D have many fixes and additions to it. Such as but not limited to: aggressive Hammer Bros, Bowser throwing hammers, etc.
-Numerous bug fixes/stage fixes.

Patch it to a clean, unheadered SMB1 ROM.

PATCH: http://www.mediafire.com/download/nijmmfg4m7o89b1/ANNSMB_&_AENSMB_(Japan)_(Promo).ips

.pal file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/6x9jodl8k434eg8/Custom.pal

Getting the FDS bios to work:
==================
To install the BIOS to Nestopia, first open Nestopia. Then go to Machine on the upper left (next to File). Once there, go to External, Disk System, then Options.
Once there, click on browse and upload the BIOS file from whichever directory you have it in. Then, click on Ok.

HOW TO SWITCH DISK SIDES (Nestopia):
=========================

To switch disk sides, go to Machine, External, Disk System, Insert, then select Disk 1 Side B. Now, what you want to do is go to Machine, Reset, Hard.
That's it; have fun! DO NOT FORGET TO DO A HARD RESET, AS MENTIONED.

How to use the included .pal file to enhance GFX on this and ALL NES games:
===============================================
To install the .pal file, go to Options, then choose Video. Now, on the bottom left you'll see "Palette". Choose Custom and then click on browse and choose the
file called "Custom.pal" in whatever directory you have it stored in. Enjoy.

Using a Joypad on Nestopia:
=================
To get a game controller working, go to Options, Input and under select Set All. The rest there should be self-explanatory.

Of all the times for my computer to crap out on me! At least I can get the patch.

I hope that you enjoy it and thanks for helping with some testing. The game on Side B was a surprise, kind of to me too, as I actually made it yesterday afternoon.

So I figured out this whole z order thing. Now I gotta get back to making my levels here, but I'm still having frustration with the map editor program. Needless to say, I've been on a lull for the last 2 days cause I've been real annoyed with the map editor program.

The only real advantage of using ben's map editor is that you can change tiles, airship positions and castle locks. My advice would be to use SMB3 Workshop for everything else.

It would help if you could explain what frustrations you are having with your editor, too. If you don't, it will be really hard to assist you. Good luck.

After pressing the "Implement changes" button, are you immediately saving right after? Like...before changing another pointer? That happens to me at times. I learned that I'm suppose to save after implementing EACH change.

I saved after implementing each change and it still is acting up.

Since you are having problems, use SMB3 Workshop and use the "Map Editor", change level data the same way you would with the SMB3 editor by Ben. Give that a try and see if it rectifies the situation.

Hello shanem i had a freeze up on this when i had the matching game card come up (the ace card that pops up after you beat a few levels) Now the game wont even load anymore for me when i exit the game and restart. Ill keep messing around to see what i can do to get it working again.

Edit**

I think i figured it out. Using a prg0 rom will not work as the box in effect will not work with it, using prg1 rom corrected this so looks like it was figured out.

You are correct. My patch was intended for a PRG1 ROM.
