What about when those platform things drop you to your death sometimes (in iceman) all of a sudden somehow? :-/ Usually if you get hit by those flying penguins while standing on those moving platforms, you fall right through and die. :-/ That's a bug right? not supposed to happen? Or by the other moving platforms, i just tested a minute ago, and yup, I get hit by a bullet from the other moving platforms, and instantly fall down and die.

Oh, i noticed that btw. As soon you step onto those moving shooting platforms, I watched megamans vertical speed drop instantly from +00.00(?) to -F4.00 in the RAM. So if you walk off them to die, you fall at maximum possible speed, heh, it's too fast.

In mm3-6, the gravity will never go below I think -F8 or -F9.00 pixels/frame when moving downward.

I gave it a try for a little bit, was interesting, but I gave up, quit and deleted the rom shortly after because I can't bare to play with that game's mechanics, they're not very smooth. And trying to work with that broom item whatever weapon is a real pain in the ass that it wont ever appear unless you move backward like half a whole screen length just so it dosnes't touch a wall and instantly disappear, and sometimes it just plain doesn't work period.

Not to go off topic, but i'd would be sweet to see a MM4 hack using those robots from MM5 GB. But yeah man, keep doing your thing, I'll be keeping an out for this hack. I gotta get off my ass and do that MM1 & MM4 hack lol! xD

I once had thoughts in my head before of what it'd be like to have an NES version of the GB mm5. I could probably do that if i wanted, but it would take me years.
And besides i got my own MM3 hack to continue working on that I won't be done with until the 2010's.

Plus some things may or may not be possible to do on the NES that only the gameboy were able to do though. ex: it would be really difficult to convert all the backgrounds and tilesets to fit for the nes's 256x240 resolution as opposed to the gameboys 156x140 or whatever it is.

Hehe, i've got a exit ability that I coded into my mm3 hack about half year or so ago. It's fully functional and simply will let you exit a stage only if you beat it.

Hmm just curious how you handeled the weapon switching deal.
I've got that concept coded into my mm3 hack too (i did it a LONG time ago, like almost 2 years ago when i decided to code in the addition of weapon swapping with select button)

But it can cause quite a few problems unless you really handle it very well.
Ex:
- The code needs to be placed at a specific area so it will only work during gameplay (not non-gameplay screens like stage select, wily intro, ending, etc)
- You will have to at least restrict the select button from working on a few types of situations. Sorry i can't think of them directly off the top of my head but I needed to for mm3, and im sure it would be required in 2 as well.
- Actually one of them would be in terms of switching right in the middle of a weapon sprite currently on the screen. I do not remember if megaman has any animations on mm2 where he holds out his hand instead of the arm cannon, so if you attempt to switch weapons during these specific times, it's going to cause graphical glitches.
- Also mm2 should have 2 different controller input registers. one of holding down a button, one for pressing a button, you want to use the "pressed button" status otherwise the weapons will cycle through a million mph

I just feel that it's very important to take these things into careful consideration.

Awesome! Did they say when they were going to release it?

So far, only september this year confirmed for japan.
No announcement on US release yet.

"Let's just make another crappy game with 3D graphics that will fail horribly, because we have to follow the industry as they advance in graphics technology."

At least Capcom is the first. The first company to actually realize that the game industry has been going down hill, and this kind of game is just what we needed.

I honestly would rather them re-market the NES and all of their games, than see all of the crap that they put on the shelves today. I'd buy them. And I'm not alone with that idea either. My friends at work, who grew up with these games, feel the same way. I remember how awesome it was to buy SMB3 and the classic MM games when I was kid. They were very expensive, but they were worth the buy.

I totally agree with your comments and stuff. Like you im just so sick and tired of seeing nothing but FPS type games all the time. I've been watching the live e3 coverage today and yesterday nonstop on G4, on tv. And it feels like that's the only thing I've seen period. FPS FPS FPS shooting games. I hate it i can't stand it. Nothing has intrested me so far at all yet except Final Fantasy 13. I kept saying outloud to myself "dont care" about almost every single thing that was shown during the press confrenses.

And of course I WANT megaman 9.

I do not mean to offend anyone out there.

Don't worry..
It was only just on t-shirts worn by capcom staff at E3 this week. It's not actually "serious".

It's fairly difficult to distinguish what's background and what's solid ground.
You may want to make the background tiles of the sewer use a different part of the BG pallete (or the ground) so that it doesn't look camoflagued or something.

That's an extremely difficult task to do. MM 1, 2, 4 and 6 use CHR-RAM
MM3, and 5 are the only games that used CHR-ROM.

In my personal experience, it is much more difficult to deal with a game using CHR-RAM in this case as opposed to ROM. It's just so much different and complex. :-s
I've converted mm4 to fully 100% compatible CHR-ROM once, but it was a very long and difficult process.

Sorry I cant be of any help to you in concern to mm2 since i know nothing at all about that game's inner workings.

Every indidivual tile has to be written to through the ppu registers. It sucks. :-\ While on the other hand, if a game were CHR-ROM, it only takes like 1 or 2 writes to mapper registers and it'll swap the graphics all instantly without any delay or time or extra code needed at all.

Well I had alot of thoughts once about how it would be to make a NES version of the gameboy mm 5. That'd be awesome. But i would never ever have the time in my life to do something like that since i'm dedicating myself to my nes mm3 hack rather.

I just played that rock'n maxx yesterday too! I reported a bug to the author which some random japanese person gave me a solution, and then the author thanked me for reporting. It's pretty hardcore.

Hehe 300 bytes is nothing. I've done numerous thousands of bytes of stuff in my hack. My current IPS patch size is well over 400 KB at the momment.

I died a few times on your mini test hack. right where that one sniper joe is, and then due with the 2 suzzys on the next room.

Although...how the heck do I get the VBA's hex editor to go past FFFF hex? ..i tried asking in IRC but no one knows.

http://www.a3share.com/members/1119/hex.PNG
hex

The Goto function doesn't let me go further than it either.

Yea the japanese rom hacking community is all over the case of mm9 hacking. This very thread got alot of attention last night from dozens of annoymous japanese people sometime after midnight or precisly after 14:15 PM saturday JST (2:15 their time) , i was watching the "online users" list for the board, and i saw many japan ip's reading this. And I'm absolutely 99% certain there came from 2ch even though there hasn't been any dicussion reguarding it exactly.

I actually have the ips patch of that mm4 hack with mm9 levels on it (it was done about a month and a half ago well before mm9 was released, i think the person was just taking his own guess at what the levels "would" look like) ..But i personally have not bothered to check it out cause i dont got a wii, 360 or ps3 yet and im staying away from mm9 until this christmas.

No it's nothing wrong with your computer or googies or whatever. I think it was only meant to be run on japanese computers, cause I also as well would get that HSP error thing when i tried it a really long time ago.

It "might" maybe work if you try setting up the regional settings things to the japanese option for "non-unicode" programs. But im not sure. (at least for win xp, dont know about any other OS)

So try: Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options --> Click Advanced tab, click in the drop down box that says english, look for "japanese" and select that. ---> Click OK ----> Restart computer as prompted .....and cross your fingers.

If it doesn't help ...then I got absolutely no idea.
