Q64 = rox, Obliv = sux

I'm always confused by the number of people who say Quest was underrated. I played it and actually thought it absolutely sucked ass. Maybe I'll load it up again and see if I was just being biased.

On the note of Oblivion, it definitely needs a few specific mods, but with those installed I think the game becomes absolutely excellent. I hope Bethseda sees what the modding community did to improve the game an incorporates that into the base game of their next installment.

Anyways, my list and reasoning:

Overrated:
-Final Fantasy 7. As to why, this says it all. For the tl;dr-ers, the basic idea is that the gameplay is too bland, the characters too stupid, the story too nonsensical and the symbolism too retardedly quasi-Christian to merit it anything than a "meh" rating.

-Ocarina of Time. I'd give this one a solid 8 or maybe even 9, but it irks me when people start calling this the best game of all time. The story is meh; epic certainly, but there is very little in the way of character development, and the olot is all too predictable for 99% of the game.

Underrated:

-Deus Ex. The best, maybe the ONLY worthwhile single player mode in a first person shooter. It forgoes the usual "campaign" style single player mode, and instead presents the player with an open-ended story, with multiple approaches to each situation depending on how the player wants to play it. (Combat vs. Stealth, Physical talents vs. Technology-based talents, playing a good or a bad guy, ect.) I know, I know, this is not so underrated in the world of PC gaming, but the fact is that there are so few PC gamers and so few console gamers are willing to try this game that I have to say it. (Note: do not get the sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War, as it is nothing like the first one and is a giant steaming turd)

-Ultima 7. Every open-ended RPG owes it's life to this game. ESPECIALLY the whole Baldur's Gate / Neverwinter Nights series; In fact, both games are so similar that BG / NWN borders on plagiarism at times. If you like KOTOR, Fable, Fallout 1/2, or Morrowind / Oblivion, you should try this game. You'll need to download a DOS emulator (like DOSbox) to run it properly, but it's worth it. The world is HUGE, but each NPC has it's own individual and personal daily schedule that it keeps to, including eating, sleeping, working, and sitting around the house, which even modern games are still struggling to recreate. The main story is decent, and there's all sorts of fun shit to do on the side, which is the real draw to the game. Completing everything in this game will definitely take you a while, and then you can have some fun coming up with your own personal objectives.

Daggerfall - The second game in the Elder Scrolls series, before Morrowind / Oblivion. The world is randomly generated unlike the two games after it, and it is MUCH bigger than either of them, although most of the world map terrain is not interesting unless you are near a landmark. The game is much crazier than the two games after it; it is much easier to become incredibly powerful in some ways, but if you fuck up the game WILL punish you for it. Some of my favorite gaming memories are in this game.

Star Ocean: The Second Story - Probably my favorite RPG. Claude's view of the story is absolutely epic, while Rena's is less informative but many times more emotional. With either character there is a ton of things to complete in this game, including the absolutely badass optional dungeon which is probably the hardest thing I've ever done in an RPG. I'm playing through it again on the hardest difficulty and it's definately an interesting challenge.

Megaman Legends - A great game that a lot of people got scared of because of the simple idea of 3D Megaman. Instead of just trying to transplant the existing Megaman world into 3D levels, they created a whole new world just for Megaman's 3D debut, and it works perfectly. The story is great, the gameplay is fun but challenging still, and the amount of things to do in the game will keep you entertained for quite a while.

Chrono Cross

Shit, I forgot all about this. It was doomed to popular failure from the start simply by merit of being the sequel to Chrono Trigger, but it's still a fucking excellent game. I don't know if I buy that it's better than Trigger, but still excellent.
Posted by Xeogred
Secret of Mana/SD3

I actually feel the original is overrated and SD3 is underrated. Go figure?
Posted by Xeogred
- Halo 2

I'm gonna agree with this in the same way that I agreed with OoT, in that it's a solid 8 or 9 but definitely not the best game ever.
Posted by Xeogred
- Dead or Alive series. Fuck that shit. =D, I absolutely hate those games.

I forgot all about this shit... Even the fighting games are shitty. I'll take Street Fighter or Soul Calibur any day of the week.
Posted by Xeogred
- Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander.

I'd rate this as good, just not as good as Starcraft. Still underrated, though.
Posted by theclaw
Counter Strike - Constant 1-hit skills and having to wait between spawns? No thank you.

I'm actually gonna defend this one: When you're playing with a bunch of newbies it isn't that fun, but at a high level of play it becomes seriously challenging and strategically interesting. I still think Natural Selection is the best HL mod, though.

Yeah, if you can basically guarantee you'll break even then it's a great deal.

Did you check the place out first? Maybe ask some people who'd done it? I'd scout out any investment like that before I dipped into it, although it sounds like you know you'll at least make back what you paid for.

Also how am I the only one who has mentioned

FUCKING FALLOUT

One of the most interesting RPGs in existence, and yet so few people even know what the damn game is. If you like any modern RPG, especially one set in a futuristic setting rather than a fantasy world, I think you owe yourself a chance with it.

Now, while I have tried Ultima 7, I didn't play it for very long. That wasn't something against the game itself, but I don't particularly care for RPGs with party systems. I prefer to go solo. I'll probably give it another try at some point.

Just FYI, the game is completely beatable solo. Harder in some ways, but still definitely beatable.

...Guys, please stop listing games that are almost universally hated (Shadow, Sonic '06, Sonic games past Sonic Adventure 2) as overrated. I don't think I need to explain my reasoning on this.

On that note...

Posted by Tanks
Underrated:
*FF VII: So what if people worship it as a god... it's still not that bad of a game...

You should probably stop calling games that are revered by millions underrated as well. Unless you think that "THE BEST GAME EVAR" still doesn't do it justice, but I don't think that's what you're saying here.

Posted by Tanks
Overrated:*Most PC games: Must I say it... yes.. I must... OMGZ TEH GRAFEX

How are all PC games more graphic-intensive than all console games?

The only current-gen console you could really argue for not caring about graphics is the Wii.

-Sports games like Madden *insert random year here*; face it, it's crap. It's a glorified version of rock, paper, scissors and it's boring as hell.

You don't understand the game of football.

Not trying to say Madden is the BEST GAEM EVAR but it gets a lot of stupid hate from people who 1. Don't understand how to play the game, and 2. Probably don't like sports to begin with. You have to understand the actual game of football and apply some of that to your gameplay. It's not a perfect game, it may not even be the best football game, but it is not just rock paper scissors.

Really now, I don't see any relevance between this event happening and the fact that it happened in the United States. There could be just as uncaring hospital staff in any other country. The fact that it happened in the United States has no bearing at all

HOORAY SINGLE INTELLIGENT POST

This could happen, and DOES happen everywhere. Just because Canada / wherever in Europe gives a great health care plan on paper doesn't mean that the doctors and hospital staff never act retarded.

But bashing US is fun.

Maybe, but it's quite cliche nowadays. I can go anywhere on the interwebs and find a dozen people bashing the US. (Sometimes for good reasons, many times for shitty reasons)

How about we bash somewhere else for a change? I've been disappointed in Greenland ever since I learned that it's actually field of snow, I say we start bitching about them.

I feel like my guy either has very poor control over his torso or ridiculously weak abs compared to the rest of his body. I have great control over the legs / arms / head but I can't seem to bend the body and especially the body's momentum the way I want to.

That being said, it's sorta find having all your plans go wrong and trying to find a way out. I haven't found a real method to "land" my character yet, but I can keep him doing backflips forever.

One surefire way to create great posts while gaining board popularity is to complain about how everyone else's posts suck.

I sorta wish I was joking.

Aren't you leaving?

Also, I mainly meant this thread. See, it's wit. Ha ha.
(Or like the rest of this thread, lacking!)

Leaving a board is a slow art. I have to slowly trail off my posting while increasing the percentage of posts that whine about the board to call attention to the fact that I am displeased that you have not found a way to make this more important than my real life. Then I have to slowly wean away to no posting, so I can properly hibernate until late this year.

Would be a shame if people at 2ch got the way wrong impression of western culture because how 4chan is.

...might actually explain the Xenophobia 2ch have.

It's ok, the Japanese tend to judge us westerners as inferior long before they ever actually meet any of us, so it won't affect their bias at all.

To all the wapanese "Japan is superior and I will move there once I have the money and be supremely happy": I hope you enjoy 16 hour shifts 6 days a week and being treated like shit just because you're not asian.
