Sometimes I'll drink diet if I'm just looking for some caffeine, which is almost never. (Usually only when I'm writing a paper, or when I'm falling asleep at a party; I used to be addicted to caffeine and after dealing with some withdrawal migraines I'm now trying real hard to stay off it again.)

Why are so many programmers and engineers caffeine addicts? I don't get it. Is is just part of the subculture? It doesn't really make sense to me.

meh, i was hoping for something not craft related, then again it's blizzard. They have to rely on their lemming fanbase to rehash for all eternity.


Nobody complains about rehashing chess again and again. That is because there is no reason to make any sort of sweeping change to the game; it is so close to perfectly balanced that it would be pointless.

Starcraft is the most balanced RTS of all time. Starcraft II looks like it might expand on the gameplay options while still maintaining said balance.

Well, excuse me if they didn't want to redo the game's entire delicate balance between races and build strategies just to give you cooler nukes.

I agree the graphics aren't looking great as of now, but they're still so far from done that I would expect them to change at least a little before release.

The difference between what Blizz has put out and whoring out sequels is that everything Blizz has put out with one of it's beloved trademarks on it (Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft) has been quality through and through. Who cares if they're set in the same world when they're all fucking quality games? All their old universes are still just as interesting as when they were new.

I'm really surprised and really disappointed the guy with the Final Fantasy avatar is complaining about whoring out sequels.

Yeah I definitely fit that crowd. Although the same can be said for ANY RPG as well, including WoW.
This is true.

The entire increase-R genre works because our brains are hard-wired to make us happy when we improve ourselves. People can project themselves into their character in such a way that improving their character triggers the self-improvement response and it makes them happy. That's why people like RPGs. And my brain doesn't do that, so I can't stand the entire genre.

I've had this theory about these kinds of things for a long time, and I'm glad someone agrees with me.

Interestingly, if you know the right kind of psychology, you could make those games (or even message boards) ten times as addicting as they already are. Which would be... really bad.

EDIT: I get this on and off sometimes. I guess it depends if I like the game; I never really wasted my time maxing out, say, FF9, because I wanted to just finish the game as soon as possible so I could get it done with. (Plus there was still a thin hope in me that the game would stop being so miserable towards the end, which was not quite satisfied...)

It's a tactics game, through and through.


I am slightly confused as to what you mean, but if you mean to say that Starcraft is all about economy management and build order, and macromanagement over micromanagement, then you are wrong and are probably playing too many shitty $$$FASTEST BGH MONEY MAP EVER$$$ games.

I don't have this replay anymore, but I remember when slayers~boxer was facing impending doom at the hands of a battle cruiser fleet all stacked overtop each other (thus making them almost impossible to target), and he pulled victory from the jaws of defeat by miraculously lockdowning 9 or so of them in under a second. There's other examples (IE how to control your marines in a semicircle so they all fire at once, as opposed to having them march single file to their death) but I think that should be sufficient.

Oddly enough however, when I am the most focused I tend to not talk at all.

On the topic of Guitar Hero; I've five starred all but a few group 7 and 8 songs on expert. Still haven't beaten Jordan on expert, though.
