I asked for:

-UR MR GAY for wii
-Viva Pinata for the 360 (never got around to it the first time)
-A new keyboard that will work with my laptop
-A new laptop bag
-A coat (tired of wearing my MD hoodie all the time)
-New socks (yes, seriously)
-Live Free or Die Hard on DVD

All this should come to less than $300, so I'm assuming between all my family I should get all this plus some other random assorted crap. If I get some money I might go on eBay and scope out some guitar tube-based poweramps.

I got a Razer Lycosa keyboard which I am currently very, very happy with. So happy, in fact, that I'm looking at mice by the same company now.

I also got UR MR GAY, an extra 360 controller, a 2GB usb flash drive, a miniature keychain digital camera (fully functional), a new razor head for my electric razor, this totally sweet laptop case/bookbag, a lot of clothes, and some money.

The girlfriend got me Live Free or Die Hard, some very good clothes, a Guinness pint glass, and a very sentimental scrapbook that must have taken her forever to make.

Got a wavebird for $17 bucks at gamestop. One rubdown with a disinfectant wipe later and I had the perfect smash controller.

The wiimote + nunchuck configuration seems to be the next best. My only gripe there is the lack of an easily accessible button that acts as a grab / throw. Especially with items on that becomes a pain; throwing shit to edgeguard is an important part of my strategy there.

The only thing anyone can be absolutely certain of this early in the game's life is that Marth and King Dedede are extremely good.

I kind of lol'd, not so much at the Marth but at the Dedede comment.

My personal prediction is that most of the characters who were the best in Melee will remain the best in Brawl for at least a year or so. Brawl introduced a lot of new characters with a lot of potential, one of which is certainly Dedede, but there's also a whole host of perfectly usable characters (Lucas, Metaknight, Ike, Olimar, Diddy Kong, even Lucario has potential) and I think it'll be a while before people begin to understand how they interact with the levels. (Furthermore, people need to agree on what levels are acceptable for tournament play, which will take a while as well.)

Almost all the characters have some weakness. Honestly, the only characters I feel comfortable saying are good for certain at this point are Fox and Marth. If you haven't seen Fox's slow-fall shine trick, look for it on youtube. The fact that he can edgeguard so well in addition to an already powerful spike attack (aerial B or up+B) means he should be a badass character.

Then again, I whored Fox in Melee so maybe I'm just being totally biased.

I like Wolf, Snake, and ROB more than my old mains (Fox, Marth, and Sheik), but that doesn't change the fact that I've decided to main Random. I also need to get some better competition than my younger brother. I managed to beat him on more than one occasion when using a character for the first time.

Also, Link sucks. Horribly.

I like
Spoiler:
Young Link's
moves except for the fact that he can rack up the damage but cannot get a kill for shit.

For some reason a lot of people online like to play timed point battles instead of stock or even timed stock battles, which makes this doubly frustrating when I get someone to 200% only to have someone else get the kill and the point.

I feel like there are a lot of characters that have this kind of problem. I can think of several off the top of my head (Metaknight, Kirby, Diddy, Olimar, Zero Suit Samus, Yoshi, just from memory).

I also noticed that a lot of the characters people are claiming to be the best are the ones who have at least one good kill move (Fox, Marth, Ike, Dedede, Snake, etc.)

I sorta agree, but Kirby and Yoshi have their Down+Bs, and yoshi has his aerial moves.

Not to mention, their side smashes can send people pretty far.

My problem with those is that they are both horribly telegraphed (especially kirby's down+b with the delay to turn into the stone) and that most players are more or less looking for that move when those characters are overhead. Actually landing that shot is hard.

Posted by Alastor
Well the thing about King Dedede is that if he grabs you and you're most of the cast you die, and if you're the remaining part of the cast you have to outpredict him not to die. Also he's the strongest character in the game, is great at spacing (only Olimar is better) and is pretty much the most difficult character in the game to KO due to his weight and ridiculous recovery.

I know Dedede has that infinite chain grab, but I thought that was only possible when you have your opponent backed up against a wall.

His recovery length is great, but his up+b (which is a large part of what makes it so good) is completely telegraphed (you're stuck on that arc once you start the move) and so even if you get back on the level with it, you should find yourself back in the air again shortly after landing.

I tried him some more today and my impression of him did improve, however.

That's not really true at all. Dedede's chain grab is easiest against a wall, sure, but in other situations, he can just run after you and grab you again. Fox, Pikachu, Olimar, Zelda, Mr. Game & Watch, Sheik, Kirby, Squirtle, Meta Knight, Falco, Luigi, and Zero Suit Samus can avoid the chain grab if the Dedede isn't able to predict their moves, though. And Toon Link and Jigglypuff are just flat-out immune to the chain grab.

Luigi, Samus, Donkey Kong, and Bowser

How many people main these guys anyways? Though I do like Samus sometimes, but not being able to play as Bowser doesn't really get me down.

From what I've seen I thought it was a good trick but nothing too game-breaking. You just have to watch your ass against dedede to make sure he doesn't grab you. Maybe if I was playing against a better competition I'd think otherwise.

You're challenging everyone though aren't you? And I mean that's not all I do with her, that's just like main things you should keep in mind if you plan on using her. The main things she's good for though for playing against other people is that you can really mix up her attacks in an erratic pattern. Oh and the charge beam is totally useful if you know when to use it, I've gotten a lot of KOs with that thing.

I know a guy who plays a pretty mean Samus. The problem with the charge shot is that it's really useful but really predictable. What this guy does is actually keep the attack charged but use it sparingly in order to keep you on your toes. When it's charged you have to adjust your play style to be constantly prepared for that charge shot. Then he uses all his other moves, including shooting numerous missiles, to try and get you to slip up. If he sees you make a mistake he pounds you with the charge shot.

Of course, I whore fox, so I've killed many-a-Samus with her own charged shot. Any character who can reflect or absorb projectiles (Fox, Falco, Wolf, Peach, Pit, Ike, Ness) means both your missle and charged shot are useless, which really gimps Samus as a character.

I did some tweaking, still using the gamecube controller.

After multiple deaths due to using jumps when attempting to up+b or up+a or whatever, I turned the tilt jump off.

I also moved grab from Z to L and reassigned Z to shield. I'm trying to get used to grabbing with shield + attack instead of just the grab button so I can perform better shield-cancel grabs after a block.

if you can access it from your computer then you can create your own magic memory stick. there's programs now that do it nice and easy for you. catch there is that you have to have something on your computer to read a memory stick duo.

I don't know if you guys noticed, but two forums haven't been posted in for over a month (Officers Club and Adult Discussion)

If you're going to start giving shit the axe you might as well start there, that's two down

If you want to you could merge writing and story (although to call the story forum "writing" is an offense to literary history)

And honestly, you could probably merge hardware/software and programing into one hugeass computing forum

Will merging subforums introduce more activity? Why do something if it won't help rectify the problem?

Dying MMORPGs have been known to consolidate several rather empty servers into one big server in order to offer one well-populated world instead of several barren ones

I think a slight adaptation of that logic can apply here

I was thinking it'd gaurantee the existence of even more stupidity than the board could handle.

Then again, you can't walk ten feet in the internet without tripping over a stupid person, place, or thing, so meh.
