BROADCAST Satellaview, not Bandai. Ugh.

(sorry, one of my pet peeves)

What most people fail to understand is that it sometimes taks a LOT of trust and a LOT of coaxing to get prototype owners to part with even one copy of their game (or to even dump it in the first place). After that, it takes even more time and more coaxing to get their permission to release the ROM publically, if they ever allow it at all. Done properly, this (sometimes very long) process maintains the often fragile trust and integrity of the relationship between collector and preservationist, since there is mutual agreement and understanding on both sides.

Events like this only serve to shatter that trust, and paint trustworthy preservationists in a very bad light. This can potentially cause prototype owners who were "on the fence" to refuse to release their games at all, and as a result even more, possibly completely unreleased (and thus even more historically significant) games may never see the light of day.

In short: enjoy your ROM now, because you might not see another one like it for a very long time.

You have not seen complete and utter filth until you have worked on a computer whose owner has 20+ cats.

No, I am totally not kidding. And I am not going into further detail.

Raccoons are so cute...it's too bad they're so mean (and often rabid) in the wild.

This is all I know:

The ROM was not supposed to have been given to "30+ people" in an IRC chat room. This ROM was supposed to have stayed between the owner, the original obtainer of the ROM, and a few trusted associates behind CLOSED DOORS strictly for research purposes, since the owner wanted the differences fully documented, inside and out. The best theory right now is that one of these "trusted associates" decided to pass it off to a friend, who was not a part of this group and thus not bound by its rules, and it spread from there.

Of course, this is pretty much how the majority of unintentional leaks happen, and the rules behind said "closed doors" have since been changed to prevent this from happening again.

Indeed. Not everyone uses those horrible filters, so you really need to show your graphics "au naturale."

There was no US version. This is the Japanese N64 game that started it all.

Yeah, the game uses VRAM + SRAM (8KB extra RAM on the cart). I believe a lot of FDS conversions used the MMC1 + VRAM + SRAM combo, since it so closely matched the original FDS hardware. The final game was expanded to 256KB + MMC3 + VROM just so Nintendo could add the new ending sequence and animate more tiles (the original waterfall/quicksand/conveyor belt animations were handled by the CPU, which is very time-consuming). Of course, the new additions didn't take up nearly 128KB, and as a result the final ROM is rather sparsely populated.

Uh, yeah, we've been trying to get past that for the past few posts, in case you couldn't tell.

What's done is done. Any further posts about the ROM's origin will be trashed.

Hunt-and-peck, with terrible accuracy. I swear I'm getting worse as the years go by.

(strangely enough, though, I occasionally find myself looking at the screen as I type...)

I have a 4.38 ratio on the site I get my MAME sets from (77.83 GB up, 17.78 GB down). I like to have a surplus because they have a zero-tolerance policy for leechers.

Wait...

2 GB DDR off a mobo that runs a 1GHz comp? What kind of PC-ratings are on those strips? Hell I can't even -find- PC-100 strips without having to put it on special order and even then they're pricey as hell and run way slower than today's strips.

My Athlon XP used PC2700. It's not *that* old. PC100, on the other hand, died with the Pentium IIs and K6-3s...

NES Batman, track 1, for a couple hours or so. It's just so good.

I've almost never sworn in my life, on or off the internet. I guess it was the way I raised, but I almost never feel the urge to.

It doesn't really bother me when other people do it.

Same here. Apparently it was drilled into my mind at a very early age that SWEARING = DEATH, because I really can't explain why the thought of doing it makes me so uncomfortable.

The worst you'll ever hear me utter on- or offline is "crap" (or the occasional "hell"), unless of course I'm pasting what someone else said. The rest of the time, it gets the "!@#$" treatment.

Well, I ran the latest update, but I'm still sitting at 9.0c. Does this not work with Win2K?

(not that I really need this, my video card's not DX10 compliant)

[edit]
Never mind, I just found this.
