Guys... don't make it a competition... that's just not doing anyone any good. The two boards are two seperate things now, there's no winner or loser anymore. This kind of stuff just fuels their fire at any rate... Ugh. ____________________ |

Yeah, it's called pop culture. You should be desensitized to it by now... especially after the rap music fad. ____________________ |

Posted by witeasprinwowIt's pointless to try and say that someone's actions on the Internet "brings them down" as in some kind of status. This is the internet. In whose eyes is this great "bringing down?" Yours? ||board's? You need a new argument. The "we draw humor from you" one is also old hat, but not unexpected. It's also irrefutable, so kudos for getting 1/2. However, don't forget that it works the other way around, because each groups' actions are humorous to the other group... so you're not doing anything that this group isn't also doing in return. I'd say that there is no right and wrong, no better or worse. The whole situation should just be let go as best as possible. ____________________ |

Posted by stag019Oh, the irony. It's awfully easy to insult people when it's the trendy thing to do (Everybody's doin' it! Doin' it! Doin' it!), but at least spell everything correctly, lest you nullify your argument. ____________________ |

Posted by Tankslolol They have no chance. The Red Sox and Yankees own the AL East. Not to mention, the Blue Jays have Vernon Wells and Roy Halladay. Also, Dice-K mania is in full swing, he looked pretty good in his first outing. ____________________ |

Are you kidding? I hate the Yankees, I'm a Sawx fan. However, when it comes down to it, the evil empire will always be there. They will stumble early because their pitching is weak, but when it gets to the stretch run, they'll do whatever it takes to be there. The O's just do not have enough in their staff or lineup to contend, I don't think. ____________________ |

Posted by Randy53215Yeah, the presidential system we have pretty much assures that the head of state gets too much credit when things go well and too much blame when things go awry. It is what it is, ignorant people continue to disregard the legislative branch of this country (which is, by design, THE most powerful branch of government.) If anything, blame the entire U.S. Republican party which controlled the majority in Congress and Presidential seat, as it's closer to the truth than blaming one person for what gets done in the country.Posted by Xeogred ____________________ |

On the average, a child dies from pure starvation every five seconds worldwide. 12 per minute, 720 per hour, etc. ____________________ |

Posted by XkeeperExactly what I meant when I posted. The pathetic mass media determines which deaths are "important" and which aren't, and the beauty of it is the people slurp this shit up. Plus it adds to the Fear-o-meter with the overblown coverage... when it is still EXTREMELY unlikely that this kind of shit will happen to any one person or their children in a lifetime. Also, giving media coverage like this glorifies the whole ordeal, adding incentives for those shooters who decide to make a quick name for themselves in a horrific incident like this.Posted by setzyeah, when you consider a few hundred people die of starvation/negligence all over the world every minute, 30 people become kind of minisculePosted by Trapster The hypocrisy and idiocy of it all makes me want to vomit. ____________________ |

Which reminds me of a general American attitude that is oft-encountered; the lack of realization that there are more people outside the United States than there are inside it. An American life is no more important than one of any other nationality, under any circumstances. If life is such a beautiful thing, then it should be observed equally for all people, and not just those that carry a "good story" with them. If this is not possible, then I think it's best to not try and make it seem that one life is worth more than the next by extravagant media attention in any cases.
Also, Americans tend to think that everyone should have/has equality of opportunity (haha wrong) and that equality of condition is just a simple product of how hard one works... not even in our own country is this true. The poor find it increasingly difficult to move vertically in the hierarchy, and the rich are able to pass on wealth after death and perpetuate the cycle very easily. It's ironic how the success stories of those few who actually get out of squalor are that which help shield the rich from helping the poor the most and help perpetuate ignorance. All in all, the starving and diseased people of the world, dying slowly and experiencing what I can only imagine as exceedingly painful deaths (I'm thinking specifically of Africa) are much more often than not in that situation due to circumstance, nothing more... and yet, that does not seem to be important. The important thing is that these 30 or so people were shot, in this country, and in a similar incident to another which is one of the building blocks of that large pillar of fear that each American takes on from listening to the media. It is that which captivates the American audience which takes precedence, hence why I feel sickened that this is accepted as perfectly fine behavior, and even encouraged. ____________________ |
