The size would be mainly due to the compression (or lack thereof).

An animated GIF and an IPS:
http://24.16.242.145/DemoEC.gif
http://24.16.242.145/SpriteEC.ips (Go to Yoshi's Island 1)
EDIT: Or use Ninetales'

Lordlazer, to answer your question on scrolling:
This sprite basically scrolls through layer 1 like a normal horizontal scroll, except on the last screen which should have no layer 1 objects. When it reaches here, layer 2 becomes solid and scrolls in. Then the horizontal scroll stops, layer 1 disappears, and the vertical scroll starts. Basically, yes.

Thanks a lot for clarifying that for me and providing a GIF file. <3

Since LM doesn't work on my OS...

why doesn't it work? do you got Macintosh or linux or somethin?

Mac

Edit: My notebook is a Mac and my PC's CPU died (or rather the fan died and it slow broiled due to the other 12 fans...LOL I was even able to shut it down properly...), so I only have access to my Mac until I move to my sisters where I can steal my nephew's PC (notebook) for when I need to use Windows only programs.

I have an idea, how about one of you post the translation of the text for those of us that wouldn't mind taking a crack at it, but don't care enough to spend the time needed to translate when people claim to have already translated it?

Forgive me if this has been said, but it might be as simple as Okibi is the Zelda Freak. It would make sense, because he/she knows more than he/she is telling us...

Also, another thing to think about is the player playing the game is also perhaps a "Zelda Freak"?

Eh...food for thought at least...

Is there a limit as to how many times you can e-mail Okibi? If not, just try it. Say that he is the Zelda Freak (or do both ideas...).

This idea might be too far "out there", but lets take what Acmlm put together is correct (for example). What if we have to decode it further? For instance, every third letter makes a word or whatever...

What if the next step is to translate "five steps five hints" into Hyrulian? I was able to find out what 'five' was, but I'm at a loss for 'steps' and 'hints': "Nethi steps Nethi hints"

I was even thinking maybe somehow this would lead to an address on the ratedo website...

So, any updates as to what is going on? Did he e-mail "you" (anyone) back?

So far, every step has had something to do with Zelda.
Step 1 and 2, the rom was a corrupt Zelda rom.
Step 3 was about the triforce.
Step 4 contained a Zelda 2 quote, and a picture from Minish Cap artwork.
Step 5 was about Hylian.
Step 6 hasn't been connected to Zelda yet, so I'm thinking that one of the games had you do "5 steps" in order to get/accomplish something.

Any ideas?

I might be going a bit too far out there, but... What if the answer is "Ganon" (or Ganondorf)?

1-2) Something corrupt (Ganon)
3) "About" the triforce [Ganon is all "about"/seeks the triforce]
4) "I AM ERROR" could loosely relate to Ganon being in the wrong, evil, and the Minish Cap artwork might simply signify what Ganon captures (Zelda).
5) I'm having a hard time relating this to Ganon...maybe it is simply that Ganon knows Hylian, both old and new...

Well, that would help because Ganon is a "Zelda Freak"... LOL

I would, but I haven't been the one to e-mail him, why not someone he will recognize e-mail him? Or does that matter, if it doesn't I'll just e-mail him...

Another answer could be simply e-mail him the five steps he's given us to solve... [I wonder if he'd be that literal...]

I don't know how to really relates to the riddle, but I believe there is a Youtube video that shows how to get the triforce underneath Zelda's castle (in OoT).

Finally got round to making a new title screen:

And yeah, thanks to Smallhacker, there's no longer a 2 player game; you get to select your player instead. Mario and Luigi look and control different, and certain areas of the game are restricted to each player, so you have to use both to finish the game completely.

I just have to say that sounds awesome! So, how far are you on this hack? Also, when you say, "certain areas of the game are restricted to each player, so you have to use both to finish the game completely", are you saying that you'll have to switch characters often to complete the game - thus restarting the ROM?

If I haven't already been throwing out "random" ideas, here is one to take the cake: If I recall, the main question is, "Where is the triforce located?" If you take that into accordance with the latest hint ("What Step are you on? Wrong. You are on Step 4.") - link to step 4 - you might notice the triforces on Zelda. Perhaps he is talking about she is the source of the triforce. Although they aren't literally the triforce, but symbolic, perhaps this is what he is talking about? Look at:

1) Shield
2) Dress (below belt)
3) Here is where it goes a bit weird. Maybe the necklance or golden clasp mean something (they both are 3)?

Another thing I've been trying to do is see if any of the hylian symbols (like on the shield or Zelda's dress) have anything to do with this riddle at all, but so far I've come up with nothing...

I would, but #3 isn't really finalized... Any ideas? Also, does he care who e-mails him? Because if I e-mail him it will be my first time and I don't know if he requires you to do the steps via e-mail or by simply participating via a message board.

If he told one person, via a hint, that they were on step 4 and another saying they were on step 2, either they are conflicting hints or the information that both of you submitted somehow pertained to the both and somehow (maybe) ties everything together? Well, anyways, since my logic was based off of that hint and you received a similar response (yet step 2 instead), then that means my idea is wrong... So, maybe if you two could post (I you likely already did) what you exactly e-mailed to okibi in order to receive such a response, perhaps we can come to some conclusion then?

I've read that before, but I couldn't make sense of it. So, the numbers are there to tell us we aren't where we think we are? And that is supposed to make sense...

"5 steps 5 hints"

So, if there are 5 steps and 5 hints...and since the number 5 is to tell us we aren't where we think we are, thus we aren't on step 6, then what step are we on?

Edit: So, technically we would still be on step 5. Because if we aren't on step 6 and it says we have 5 steps (not 6) and we have 5 hints...which technically doesn't make sense cause we have 6 hints? Ugh...

I'll see if I can think of anything, but perhaps the answer is as simple as reorganizing the letters?

5 steps - there are 5 letters in the word "steps"

5 hints - there are 5 letters in the word "hints"

I'm really trying to think simple and I think this is the most simple I've thought so far...heh...

I believe you captured what you're trying to do perfectly! I actually like it that you are making the prince "weak enough", giving it a similar feel to everything else you've drawn thus far (hope I said that right...).
