Hi. I Like the board already so far. I'm sure it wiil be awesome once everything gets settled. Of Course, I probably won't be posting much here either, but I'd much rather lurk around a board with some intelligence. Good luck with everything guys

Also: Whoo Hoo! I've never posted in a legendary thread before!

Also, there is one "blacknemesis13" but who knows whether s/he is really a she.

I really am a she btw for anyone else who cares. I know there isn't really a way I can prove it, but take my word for it. So yes, girls do exist on the internet!

Hmm, I got into watching Speedruns at one point, and while searching for some I came across tasvideos.org. I saw they had a TAS of SDW: TLC up and until that point I didn't even know hacks like that existed! So of course once I knew a Super Mario World hack existed I had to play it. Super Mario World is one of the signature games of my childhood and the idea of being able to play a new version sounded so cool. So I soon learned about emulation, found out there were TONS of Mario Hacks, found Zophars and downloaded everything I needed to play. Then I found FuSoYa's Niche, downloaded SDW: TLC played it and loved it, and soon started downloading other hacks from Zophars not knowing they were all extremely outdated, this was around mid 2005. I noticed a lot of the hacks referenced ACMLMs board either on their site or in the game credits so I figured I should check it out and see if I could find more hacks there. I came here, and have been addicted ever since, although I'm still mainly a lurker and rarely post.

As for this incarnation, I was reading through all the threads relating to the whole incident, and one of the ones in the pit of despair contained a link here. I was very happy to see the new board! I knew the old one would turn to shit without Xkeeper and Ace around, and I never liked ||bass much anyway, especially now. I figured a new board would be set up eventually but I was getting a little worried as to when. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised, left the old, and joined the new in a heartbeat <3

Rarest things I have are both for the NES. They would be Bible Adventures, and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. Both crappy games my parents bought for me when I was 5.

For free antivirus, I've tried AVG, Avast, and Bitdefender. Bitdefender was definitely the best of the 3, AVG the worst. Bitdefender 8 free edition isn't that bad, and the Pro version is hard to beat if you are willing to pay. Right now though I'm using Nod32 and I'm just as pleased with it as Bitdefender Pro.

I remember there was a thread like this before and there was a website that had letter grades for a bunch of games based on rarity, but I can't for the life of me find it now.

Do you mean this site? That's the one I went to to look up mine.

Are there any lists like these for SNES/Genesis games? I'd be interested in seeing hour our finds fare.

Just found one for SNES games. And this one has estimated prices too. Rarest one I have on here is Super Mario RPG, which is not rare just uncommon, but apparently can still fetch $30-80 which is better than all my other games which are worth about $3. Also found a gameboy list, but it's pretty incomplete. I'm looking for a genesis list now.

And finally, here is a quick peek of another small project I'm working on. To tell you the truth I'm surprised no one ever though of this before.

Yes I'm aware of the glitches in the map. It will be worked on. It will a small hack, I'm not planing anything over 15 levels and will probably be released sometime after SMB: TC2

So...Questions? Comments? Answers?

Ha ha thats great! You should call it Luigi Is Missing! Or better yet, play as Luigi and you'd have an actual Mario Is Missing that doesn't suck.

You know, the only thing Yoshi's Island really says about their origin is that they were both BORN in Mushroom Kingdom, not that they had to grow up there. So if you really wanted to try and piece the non-existent plot together just for kicks like I like to do, I've always thought of it this way.

Mario and Luigi were both born in mushroom kingdom and all of Yoshi's Island takes place. However, due to the prophecy about the two, not to mention all of the drama that just took place surrounding it, its apparent that if they stay in mushroom kingdom while they are young and vulnerable that their lives are in danger. So its decided by the yoshis, Mario and Luigi's parents, (and possibly other members of the mushroom kingdom but who knows), that the best thing to do is to transport them to our world where they will be safe, until the time comes when they are needed in Mushroom Kingdom.

Hmm, this sounds a lot like the Mario movie plot with Daisy actually. Smuggling them over to the other side. All the more reason for me to like it. I actually like to consider the movie as part of the Mario canon as well, though in its own bizarre way. Not like the rest of the game canon makes any more sense anyway.

Anyway, so they are transported to our world, but why Brooklyn specifically? I like to believe that Mario and Luigi's Mushroom Kingdom parents are actually originally from Brooklyn as well and got transported to mushroom kingdom at some point in their lives. They were happy, settled down, and eventually gave birth to our heroes. So when it became apparent that they would need to go back to our world to protect their children, why not choose where they were originally from? Either that, or as the movie sort of suggests, if Mushroom kingdom is sort of a parallel universe to our own, then that paticular part of Mushroom Kingdom just happens to occupy the same space as Brooklyn. Personally I'd say both.

With all of that in mind then it would seem to make more sense that there is a portal between the two worlds that is open and one can traverse at will. However, if so, then either Bowser doesn't know about it or more likely, there is something that makes it impossible for Bowser to use it. Perhaps we can still go by the whole "the princess is the only one who can make a portal between the two dimensions" thing, as it seems that only the good guys have been able to go back and forth between Brooklyn and Mushroom Kingdom. And Bowser has never contemplated taking over our world except if you count the movie. Hmm, wait a minute, then we have to consider Mario Is Missing. Okay, maybe not Impossible for Bowser, but difficult? Ah well, thats just a part of my little theory.

-Mario's fights Donkey Kong to save his girlfriend.
-Mario and Luigi take DK back. DK Jr. frees DK from his cage.
-Mario and Luigi goes into the sewers under Brooklyn to fix the pipes and find strange creatures start to come from the pipes. They both fight them off.
-Mario and Luigi are sucked into a pipe by magic and find themselves in the Mushroom Kingdom.
-Mario and Luigi hear about the plight about Princess Toadstool and go out to rescue her.
-The brothers stay in this world either because of their own decision or because they cannot return back to NY.
-Mario dreams of the Subcon.
-Bowser and his 7 children take over the kingdoms of the Mushroom World. Mario and Luigi stop him.
The rest of this still stands. I think the Mario canon somewhat flows together (assuming of course that you think of it pretty imaginatively) until about Mario 64, then just about everything really is just completely random. Either that or I just don't care beyond that point to bother trying having any of it make sense.

Phew, that's my longest post to date!

Of course the Mario canon has tons of inconsistencies! It isn't even supposed to make sense. Any canon you can come up with that even partially makes sense has to be based on at least 50% imagination. But the point it, that's the fun! I'm not saying every little thing has to flow together perfectly or even that all of the games have to fit into a consistent time line or even the same time line. Or that if you want a back story you have to obsess over every little detail trying desperately to have the plot make sense. It's not supposed to make sense. That's not the point. It's just that at least with most of the earlier games, there is enough of a flow between them to where you can get your own little back story if you want it.

I like giving the Mario games a back story and having them have a somewhat flow. I think it makes the games more fun. But the fun thing with the Mario games is that they are so up in the air that the back story can easily differ from person to person, and you are more or less free to make up your own based around what they have in common.

For instance my full version of the Mario back story canon in my head is probably pretty different from other peoples versions simply based on which games I choose to incorporate. For one thing, most people hated the Mario movie and prefer not to link it to the games at all which is understandable. But personally, i liked the movie for what it was and I like involving it in the canon no matter how little it actually had to do with the games from a practical stand point. After all, practicality and logic have very little to do with Mario canon. Its not about how everything is supposed to work, because it isn't supposed to work at all. Its about which things do you want to work together and think flow nicely. It all depends on what thing you like, what games you bother to take into account, what time line you want to follow, what you've gathered from outside information, and how imaginative you are with the whole thing. In short, Mario back story is more personal opinion that fact, and that's what fun about it.

I usually think of it in terms that the main games (even then I guess that would depend on how I define "main" games) are the ones that are actually part of the canon and are continuing parts of a story, while side games such as Super Mario Kart or Mario Party, are just that, side games that aren't really part of the overall time line, just based off of it. I also view the Donkey Kong time line as wholly separate from the Mario one for the most part, though I could probably get them to sort of flow if I wanted to and thought about it a little bit. I just never bothered.

All in all, thinking up a back story for the games is mainly a natural thing for me that I think about a little more in depth from time to time for FUN. And if I had played any of the Zelda games (which I really should do) I'm sure I'd do the same thing with them. The only time I ever tend to really sit down and think about the details of the canon is either when the mood strikes me for some reason, or when I try to write something like this and put it into words. But I never expect it to make sense, its not supposed to. Usually trying to put something into words forces you to think about it more logically, and logic and Mario canon aren't really supposed to fit. I guess it just something you either get or you don't.

As for Wario, I never really thought about his placement into everything much. But I've always seen him as Mario's half-brother. I'm not sure I've even played a game or read anything concerning his origin so I have no basis as to whether he's from Brooklyn or Mushroom Kingdom or wherever. I don't think neither he nor the Mario bros have any actual blood link to Waluigi however. He just strikes me as this random villain with identity issues, who eventually met up with Wario, found out they had a lot in common, and thus they quickly became best friends.

Damn, when I get on a topic I tend to ramble. I'm like this with e-mail too. My poor friends lol.

From that I come to the conclusion that the two are in the Mushroom World as children.
But the two also play cowboys which from what I have seen, have not shown up in the Mushroom World. But this is also from Super Mario Adventures and it is not like the artist/writers created the series.

Also as a double hitter, Mario mentions it was around 20 years since he and Wario played as children. So I would imagine Mario is around 25 years of age.
Oh yeah, I actually have that comic! Haven't looked at it in years though. From that I'd have to agree with you. Plus, as for cowboys in the mushroom kingdom, there's an episode of the Super Mario Bros super show that has a western theme, so I'd say the mushroom kingdom is aware of cowboys, which further supports that Mario knew Wario when he was still in the Mushroom Kingdom. Now why would the Mushroom Kingdom know of cowboys? Simple, its not supposed to make sense and someone just thought it would be cute lol.

As far as I'm concerned, "SMB2" is just a romhack of DDP that has Mario sprites. Nintendo should have just released DDP and SMB2J everywhere...
Yeah, I pretty much think of it that way too. It just never really felt like a mario game to me, and it technically really isn't. Although I do like Icegoom's idea if you wanted to work it into a the back story. And to stay on the original topic which I know I've totally neglected, I knew Subcon was short fr subconscious since the day I first read the name in the game manual which was probably when I was around 6. And yes, I actually knew the word subconscious and knew it had something to do with dreams when I was 6. But that was just because I was into dreams.

The Donkey Kong Country and Mario universe being connected by the sports titles makes my head hurt. Are Koopas and Kremlings two distinct races of reptillians both vying to conquer the same world? I want to see a game where Bowser and K. Rool are at war.
I pretty much regard everything with Donkey Kong to be totally separate from the Mario world. I sort of view it like this. Kongo Island is neither part of the "Real" world or the Mushroom Kingdom. It is wholly sepaerate. However, it is part of the same dimension as the Mushroom Kingdom, this dimension being "The Video Game Universe" as a whole. Think Captain N

During the original Donkey Kongs where Mario was involved, (a.k.a Cranky's glory days) the original DK (a.k.a Cranky) was part of our world and thus just your simple average ape, albeit somewhat king kongish. Afterward, he was set loose into the jungle where somewhere he stumbled upon a portal into the Video Game Universe much as the Mario Bros stumbled upon a portal into Mushroom Kingdom. Now, Brooklyn intersects with Mushroom Kingdom so the Mario Bros portal pulled them into Mushroom Kingdom. But the jungle is no where near Brooklyn, so it pulled DK to a place nowhere near Mushroom Kingdom, a.k.a Kongo Island which happened to intersect with the jungle. Now since dumb DK is now in "The Videogame Universe" anything is possible. The island has a strange effect on him that slowly makes him more intelligent. Then the rest of the Donkey Kong time line occurs. Hmm, now this is reminding me of the Narnia books. Anyway, K.Rool wants to take over Kongo Island, Bowser wants to take over Mushroom Kingdom. That's the extent of their wanting to conquer. Both probably out of a continuing grudge against the respective heroes.

I guess somewhere down the line DKs grandson ends up meeting up with Mario and makes amends for past grievances. As for the time thing, don't apes age differently from humans? I don't know about that though.

I was convinced that something disastrous would happen if I accidentally pressed the power button before Windows 95 said "It is now safe to turn off your computer."
Same with me only I had a Mac.

Also, my parents used to put these little green sick looking smiley face stickers that said "warning poison" or something like that on them, on every drawer or cubbard in the house that had cleaning chemicals in it to warn me to stay out. Well, they worked because I was convinced that if I even touched anything with one of those stickers on it I would instantly die.

I knew it was St. Patrick's day but I really just don't care so its been just another ordinary day to me. However, I must be more aware of it then I realize because I just now realized that I changed Tina's outfit/hair color to be all green today for apparently no reason. I REALLY did do it just because, and not because its St. Patrick's day too. I knew it was St. Patrick's day but the two just didn't click together until now. Gees, I'm slow lol.

I'm not a rom hacker but I have seen and played quite a few of them. I'm kind of a lenient judge, but anyway, I don't think your screenshots are boring though they would obviously still be nicer when spruced up, and I think your hack looks pretty good so far. My main problem with it though is that in the third screenshot the foreground pallet clashes with the rest of the level. Its just too bright. And maybe a different color that made it look more like it is underwater would work better, like a light blue or purple that matched well. Right now it looks more like a beach foreground than an underwater one. Anyway, keep up the good work, looking nice

you guys don't even know what messy is

I CAN SEE HIS CARPET

tahts clean enough for me.
QFT! plus at least his carpet isn't a disgusting petri dish of 20+ years of unspeakable filth. That's the only really bad thing about my room. That and I haven't really been able to reach my closet in over a year without performing acrobatics, and I'd be terrified to look under my bed or walk barefoot, and Xk is to Mountain Dew as I am with Pepsi, and there's old food thats been sitting in here for weeks. Best way to describe my room, pure organized chaos. Second best way, the song "Trash Day" by Weird Al lol. Right now my shelves and storage space are actually the most unorganized things in my room. That's just where all the crap I have no idea where else to store is crammed. I also have about three drawers pulled out right now, (it was more), their contents spewed out all over the floor until I get around to organizing them. And I have to leap over junk to get into my bed which I of course never make. My room would actually look pretty nice though if I would just get around to cleaning and organizing it. Main reasons for its current condition, I have a small room with way too much nice stuff and random crap to cram in there, but more than that is of course LAZINESS. Hell, I just YESTERDAY took down our Christmas tree, and still haven't taken down the Christmas lights.
