I've got a year to go and I'm not ready to graduate. College has been way too much fun and I don't really relish the thought of going to graduate school as I've heard that the hours are worse than a job and you don't get paid. Well, I've got one more year to hit up all the bars I can, eating with 4000 people in a single room, and late nights in a dorm where you can yell out anything you want at any time of the day (amazing how spending the summer in an apartment will make you realize how free you are in college, you can't justiifiably yell douche bag down the hallway in an apartment building). I guess I'll deal with that when I get there. Congratulations keitaro. |

I learned to type fairly well when I was in middle school when we got our first computer. When I started taking programming classes sophomore year of high school my typing improved tremendously. I'm pretty sure that me and my mother are the only two members of my family who type with all then fingers (she used to be a legal secretary, so she's really really fast, like stenographer fast). After I got good in high school I haven't lost the touch, even though I don't type nearly as much, or with the more obscure keys that are need for programming. I always find it funny that none of the WPM/CPM testers ever test on numbers and their associated characters, because I find that's what slows down most people. Anyways, my results were
The Enchanted Typewritter Test - Net CPM: 399 Accuracy: 98% Gross CPM: 404 Tigers in the Wild Test - Net WPM: 77 Accuracy: 100% Gross WPM: 77 The Irrational Side of Managerial Decision-making Test (left-handed/dominant typing hand) - Net WPM: 30 Accuracy: 93% Gross WPM: 32 Not too shabby if I should say so myself. I usually type one handed with my left hand so I ran the test with that one because I didn't see a point in testing something that I already know will just be horrendously bad from never having practiced. And I guess I correct most of my mistakes before I type the next character because in the WPM test I didn't miss a single word, even though I know I had to edit 15 or so words during the test. |

Posted by Tanks Basically, if you ask which is harder comparing anything academically between high school and college, college will be harder. Now, if the comparison is social, like, purchasing beer underage, I'd say it goes the other way and college is easier. At least that's what I've found. Finished finals two weeks ago and got two really big surprises on my transcripts, and one smaller one. I was expecting a B+ in Electronics II, but I got a C+ (that hurt a lot) I was praying for a C+ in my Signals II class and got a B I was sure I was gettting an A in my Power Systems course and got a B+ Oh well, only one more year of undergrad finals left. |

I'm with you, no matter the situation, the trash is being dished out to all people. I swear, my friends watch me play games just for the entertainment that comes out of my mouth, they've told me. It's gotten to the point where single player games bring out the talk. I'd get IMs from my friends asking me if I was playing Castlevania so they could come in and listen to me yell at the game. I try to hold back on some of the harsher trash talk with people I don't know because I've offended some people, though all my friends know I'm not being serious, no matter how bad it sounds. |

I'm curious about this. I use Safari for most of my browsing on my Mac and have firefox for the few sites that seem to hate Safari (anything on addictinggames slows down Safari to no end). How is the memory management on the beta, does it use up a ton of memory like iTunes does (iTunes on Mac uses considerably less memory than it does on PC: it uses 10% of my 1.33GHz PPC with a gig of ram while it uses upwards of 25% of my 3.4GHz P4 with a gig of ram). I'm waiting until I refresh my PC and until a more complete version of Safari comes out for windows until I try it out. |

How can you tell if it's your ears that can't hear the sound or your crap laptop speakers that can't accurately reproduce the sound. I'll give it another try when I get good speakers set up in my dorm room. |

Trillian, Starfish, iTunes, network, sound, safe remove, wireless, nVidia (A little hard to read, transparency's up too high). Quick launch has absolutely nothing, because we all know that [windows key] > [R] > [program name] is so much quicker. Learn to use a keyboard and run command, it's so much better than a mouse. And for the better taskbar, the Dock Finder, Dashboard, Mail, Safari, Firefox, Adium, Skype, iTunes, PCSX, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand, iWeb, Adobe CS2 suite of apps(Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, Bridge, Acrobat 7.0 Pro), Starfish, Quicktime, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, X11, Matlab, Trash |

Posted by AlastorGood point, but then, how come none of these test require anything beyond standard letters. They rarely ever use digits or special characters, which, if you type often will come into play enough that at least knowing how to type swiftly with digits should be required. And as has been said, how can so few people here be able to do this, I thought typing was something that people who were in to technology and computers just did, kinda like walking, think of a typo as tripping over your own feet or something, and the backspace key as regaining your balance before you make a fool of yourself and face-plant into the cement. |

Pie > Cake any day of the year. If there's an office party, you get someone a cake, but when it's your best friend's party, a real friend brings a pie. (It's true, if you don't believe me check out the Love Line wiki because we all know that Adam "ACE" Corola speaks the truth). Anyways, definitely any pie will do, but I prefer apple, pumpkin, coconut cream, and cheese cake (which despite it's name is actually a pie). If you really want something amazing, try an apple dumpling. It's a cored out apple, covered with sugar and cinamon and all that good stuff and surrounded by pastry. It's like you're very own personal apple pie, but possibly better. |

Anybody ever seen the one where they line up the four guys, and then they have to say a tongue twister, and if they mess up a mallet or something swings up from the floor and clocks them in the nuts. Priceless faces on every turn. |

Article [slashdot].
So I was reading this article and it got me thinking about something. It seems that many of the anti-virus/spyware vendors are a little negligent in their methods. Also, by the very methods that these packages work, as catchup programs, they are quite flawed in being adequately effective. I've also noticed that most computers that use AV software, like my parent's computer, eventually become very very slow. I gave up on using anything of the sort back in my freshman year of college three years ago. I just decided it would be easier to use good software to prevent inadvertant files from loading and installing on my computer and setting up my computer to not allow certain traffic into my computer and to not install things without asking. I also reformat my OS drive and reinstall about every 6-9 months, depending on the performance of my computer. Anyways, what do you all think of AV softare, do you use it, or do you just pay attention to what you do online and take the necessary precautions? |

Medium, that's just disgusting, it's gotta be at least medium rare, tastes more like the hunt that way.
Anyways, pasta and sauce with a little cheese on top and a glass of water. That's what I eat when I'm on a budget, probably costs about 30 cents a meal, if that. And anything with honey on it is good for me. Honey is such a versatile additive. |

I'm actually shocked at the size of it, but then again, that just shows how much stuff gets preloaded by WinXP into that folder, because I don't touch that. I've got everything in custom named folders, because I like to order my installs into what I use them for, i.e. networking, gaming, media, bootups, artwork, etc. |

Post your desktops (with start menus open if you've got em), because as of now I'm not seeing a thread for it.
Nice and clean, just the way I like it. Using Starfish for the background, refreshing every 15 minutes. TClockLite for the taskbar. J: has all my XP install and all the programs that need to be reinstalled after I do a reformat. M: has all my music (64 gigs), movies/TV shows (95 gigs) and pictures (the rest of it). S: has a good amount of my music as a backup that I'll clean up when I get a second 320 gig HD. G: has all of my games (NES, SNES, Genesis, Arcade, ePSXe, Quake, SofF, UT and some more). E: is my external drive that backs up a good amount of my tv shows until I get that second HD. <---- Clicky (1280x1024) |

I find the cleanliness looks better when I'm not doing anything with my computer and it's just sitting there on my nice 32 inch wide screen. Also, considering that most of my emus don't really appreciate full screen on 720p, I'd rather have something nice to look at, which is why I use Starfish instead of my typical picture as on my iBook.
Quick note, the screen shot is from my computer on my regular 17" computer monitor because we've been using my TV for movies and cable TV a lot recently and I don't want my computer to get thrashed when we have a party and people miling around. |

My parents had me put NAV on their computer as well, and man has that created so many issues, and not just for them but for me. I'll get phone calls at all times of the day, with questions about whether or not something that NAV marks as questionable but in all reality is of no harm to the computer needs to be deleted. Sometimes I won't recognize the file, I'll try searching for it on my computer, I won't find it, so I'll tell them to let NAV destroy it and then their entire system crashes because it was an essential file. Ah, I had NAV for about two weeks before I got so frustrated with it questioning everything trying to access the internet (really, firefox and trillian want the internet, no shit, stop blocking me). Anyways, that was my last forary into the anti-virus domain, and eventually I dropped Ad-Aware because I just never seemed to need to use it. I have to agree about the corporate versions of AV software. Our companies MacAffee seems to work just find and doesn't bother me one bit, but then again our Admin has pretty stringent policies on internet access and you have to request access to most websites outside our companies intranet and specific websites of important clients and stuff. |

That did nothing to convince me to pay for a subscription to any AV program. Or to get a free AV and have it eat up resources as it runs on my computer. There are ways to fix the problem, as others have stated, and why stick your finger in one of the holes in the dam when you know another one will just spring up. Plus, I've switched to using my windows as a media pc and my mac as my browsing machine, so I feel pretty safe.
funny phrase if you place an 'e' at the end of "dam". Typos are fun. |
