Wow, it's great to see, that this project is really going well.
It's always a shame to see, that most Editors are aimed "only" at 2D games, because it requires a lot of more work to get things working in a 3D environment, so it's always great to see a new (and good working) editor with a still growing feature palette! Kudos to you, for all the work you already done and the stuff you achieved!
Am I allowed to suggest one little thing? It's a great idea to host (or just mirror) all you hacking documents at the Google documents servers. It's free and will be still available, even if your site or the board goes down. Just my two cents.
Keep it coming and waiting for new screens and (of course) for a new version!

For the sake of noticing, thanks for sharing.
It's always sad to see a user who shares his work but goes nearly unnoticed at all.
So thanks for your work, even nearly one month after your post.

Sorry, to revive this thread, but my question is also about the custom post layouts and I thought why create a new thread if there's already one discussing them.

My question is, is there any way to DISABLE them completely? It's fun for the first few times, but I'm not used to search every time for the post in a new box. It seems like a bad coded RPG where every new NPC got its own textbox!?
If it isn't intended to got disabled, I have to live with it, but I would be really pleased to have a constant layout...

It's a funny way to support new features.
I should probably take a closer look to all the Items in the shop and whether there are more additional stuff to unlock.
Thanks for answering!

I used to visit the old board regularly but never registered.
A lot great hackers there with great ideas and hacks. A sister board for Toads Tool appeared sometimes later. But then the main site disappeared and I didn't found it for a long time. So I decided to register here finally!

Probably you already checked my signature, most probably you don't, but I really hope and think, that a community based around rom hacking and editors like this site is a proper place to advertise a project like glZelda(2) and I hope to get enough responses to show the project leader that a project like this is really appreciated.
But let me start from the beginning:
Most of you probably already know the famous Zelda Classic, if not, you should really check it out, because it's a duty for every Retro, SNES and Zelda Fan to play it at least once.
It's an engine recreation, to play and recreate the complete feeling and gameplay of the first The Legend of Zelda NES game without an emulator on your PC and enhance it with new quests, functions or items.
Today it's an awesome editor with plenty of possibilities. You can create a completely new game and work with the original NES Sprites, but it also supports ALttP and the BS-X (and more!) sprites. But deep inside its core is still kinda old school, without enhanced gfx capabilities and features.

More than 5 years ago Benjamin Arnaud created glZelda to show an engine with editor which was build with up-to-date technique and other fine features and it really was and still is stunning.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNiQuC5egJk
Download the video her (with additional editor part, had to remove it out because of the silly 10 minutes Youtube time limit)
And I really mean stunning, because if you think about, that all this had been done 4 years ago, than it's just too nice ending up as a mere tech-demo.
As time goes by, the author already thought about a revive of the project and posted the following comment at his blog:
Posted by "Benjamin Arnaud"
I'm not sure yet to code a glZelda 2.

But if I do, it'll use Qt / C++ / Opengl. to get the best of UI and Rendering worlds. And it might have an online feature.

Online features!! Yeah, but till the end of 2009 it was quietly and the project was dead before it really started.
But 11/30/2009 the author came back and created a thread in the Zelda Classics board:
Posted by Benjamin Arnaud
Greetings,
Two years ago I posted about a little project I had.

This was mostly a tech demo, demonstrating how could Zelda3 run using modern GPUs.
You can find details and get it here :
http://92.243.3.104/blog/?page_id=3

Having spent myself glorious hours on the GameBoy version of Zelda a Link to the past, I suspected people would warmly welcome it.

Surprisingly a lot of people tried it, a lot of people asked for the code, some people proposed their work. I wasn't ready for all this back then. It was a tech demo.

We're in 2009 now, I feel this project is incomplete.

I have two questions for you:
Are you interested in a Zelda 3 Classic ?
Would you contribute to such project ?

Benjamin Arnaud.

Sadly, the project got nearly ignored at the Zelda classics board and only a few answered.
So I decided to write him an email, here's the conversation log for you:
Posted by "MasterPhW"
Any new news regarding an upcoming glZelda release?
You announced it at the Zelda Classic board, but sadly never answered in the forum or replied my pn.
I already knew a few people, that are interested in creating a project with your tool.

Dear MasterPhW,

glZelda was a tech demo. It’s not intended to make a full game with it. As far as I’m concerned glZelda project is over.

That said,

Few month ago I asked at Zelda Classic board if anyone was interested by a Zelda 3 classic.
So far I didn’t get enough answers to get me running on this.

If many people are interested helping out on a new Zelda project, just let them mail me at bunjeee@gmail.com.

If enough people show support I might consider investing time on this.
We have the technology, now we need the community.
All in all, it would be cool to do it, but together.

Benjamin Arnaud.

Now you can see, there's still legitimate interest by the creator of glZelda, but he really want to see, that there is a community which is interested and would show support for him and his tool.
So after I got the mail I started posting the video to Youtube and information/advertisement posts at 8 different websites, but after that I had some real life issues, so I than disappeared from glZelda advertisment.
But I already made an impact! He showed reaction at his new site (or should I say 3 reactions? You could also count Support & Suggestion and the Contribution thread at his board).

Before my disappearance I was preparing a big promotion campaign with two additional videos in 2 scenarios never seen before (with appropriate enemies as well) in glZelda (Dark World is one, but the 2nd stays a secret till release) created with the old glZelda engine to show its potential, but because of these serious real life issues I hadn't time to finish it yet and that's a real shame!
Scenario 1 has finished music, font, nearly all sprites done, sketches, ideas and an alpha but is missing still a lot mapping and I didn't even started with scenario 2, but already created sketches and support files.

If anybody knows a good spriter and/or mapper it would help me a lot to just get the advertisement train finally rolling!
But even without them, I decided to restart the effort and thought this site needs a glZelda2 topic aswell!

If you are interested in this project and would like to see a Zelda 3 Classic engine with modern gfx support, write an email to bunjeee@gmail.com, reply here or at his site and tell your friends about this project!
He/we will still need you as a community! Talk about it on Facebook, Youtube or Twitter and help me to advertise this great project!
But most important: show support and help making glZelda a reality!
Thanks for reading
MasterPhW

I don't really care about what's written in an EULA, as long as they don't cut my features down, like the Sony did multiple times with nearly each new hardware revision and later also with their firmware updates.

I don't plan on using illegal content, if I really will miss a game, because of its region or its language, I can still play and finish the game some gens later, after it has been translated and than probably also has enhanced gfx and sound because of an emulator.

And I would NEVER ever not buy a Nintendo console because I would miss all the great Nintendo games for ever!!! And that's a long time!

Wii Homebrew is/was so great, because it showed, what the Wii was missing from the beginning.
Multimedia features, HDD support, (translation) patches, region free gaming etc.
The 3DS already shows that Nintendo learned a lesson and to be honest, most Wii/DS Homebrew user used it for pirating games and that's the reason Nintendo wants to state in their EULA, that they have the possibility to disable all non Nintendo software.
The N64 was the last Nintendo console without any kind of Homebrew and just compare its game portfolio with the Wii game portfolio.

The brick rumor is there since the launch of the hardware and even before. We just don't need to believe everything the industry or some sites tell us. I won't believe, that Nintendo will really do it till it really happened and is NOT a user failure.

And homebrew on the N64 happened most of the time with emulator help, most of it way after the abandonment of the console and hard to do yourself.

DS & Wii homebrew started shortly after the release and leaded mainly to copyright infringements and game pirating. That's one of the reasons why both consoles got less games after some time and a lot games got a lot less sales, than they really deserved.

Just compare the first red steel with it successor. It had better gfx (but a shitty art style compared to the first one imho), a "true" 1:1 sword control and many more features. And it had less sales because of the "free is better than everything" body of thought.

Believe me, I really like the homebrew idea and all its possibility, but a lot must have homebrew hasn't been released for DS or Wii. Most of it, you can have also with a PC or Mac and then a lot better!
And the only REAL great homebrew, which wasn't possible before is Riivolution and it nearly has no supporters, because it don't work with backup loaders or pirated games.

Nice, you build this or some thing and much did it cost?

Yeah, build it complete by myself.
So finding the best prices for every hardware and a proper system which fits nicely altogether.
I bought it February 2010 and it was 1.131,97€.
But I hadn't to pay for my Win7 because I got it for free at my university (MSDNAA program) and I later bought additional 4GB Ram and the SSD. So it's more or less 1600€ I think.

It's really sad to see, that some seems to be proud to do pirating games, instead of just support the companies that made these games.

It's the new contra livestyle of being hip, it seems to me.

Everybody that earns money and tell games his or her hobby, should also support the hobby instead of saying, just because they can do this stuff, they will do it and that's the reason I pirate.

I was the first one, that screamed hooray after the PS3 was hacked. But if you look at the PS3 homebrew scene you can see a backuploader, a backuploader and another backuploader. Why? Because it helps to play "free" games.

A use able media center appeared long after Sony fixed the exploit, that was the reason I already updated. No additional functionality, like a XMB last.fm plugin, a proper youtube plugin or a browser was released. The main focus of all homebrewer was the backup scene. And that's the reason for me, that I decided I don't need homebrew at my PS3. It's still lacking a lot and it needs some time to be done via homebrew, but the only real development was in the backuploader part. And that's the sad truth.
