Hey!
I'm a noob at the site currently, and want to show you my work, and ask for a bit of help if it's not a problem!(I don't feel like making a new thread for the project until more stuff is done) You see, I'm making my third legit Mega Man hack now, which is going to be the 2nd most extensive MM3 hack around after kuja killer's Mega Man Odyssey It's not like I know too much about ASM, so I mainly solve the problems via other, simplier methods. That means to change something like AI, I need to look for every small piece of info on various sites. But enough said. My project is called Mega Man the Hedgehog Trap. Now that propably spoils one of the major aspects of the game:The stages are based on Sonic levels from the Genesis. Here's my Ice cap zone(Gemini Man stage) There are a few things though which I need to know to make this hack better. How can I change the text in the Dr. Light cutscenes?(The text table found on Datacrystal only works with Stage Select and things like that) And some info on the Boss AI...Either Doc(I guess if it's similar to the MM2 AIs) or normal, I don't even need to change all of them, but I'm tired of altering their rooms and that's it.(Insectduel's collection of adresses for MM4 is really great) I'm also trying to port some music from MM6,(using the MMC5 sound engine and kuja killer's document) if I can't do it, I might ask someone's help, or stick with sound channel pointer-based remixes. Thanks for any kind of help! |

Posted by kuja killer Thanks for the emulator tip.I usually use other hex editors because I don't really hex edit that much(at least I didn't use to) By the way, do you happen to know a good hex editor that has a Find & Replace command?I'm using Cygnus and it seems to replace only $100 bytes of data at once(which really screwed me over when I first attempted replacing a music track) |

Hmm...so music-wise.Can I just insert a song from a .nsf file if it has 4 sound channels / is ripped from a game that uses the MMC5 Sound engine? |

Posted by kuja killer The really annoying problem is that I can't find a good hex editor with a proper replace function. Most of them don't even seem to have any kind of that, and Cygnus only replaces $100 bytes at once, when the song I want to copy-paste is $270 bytes long |

Posted by Insectduel Aww...It's like everyone's comparing it to Somari, which really bugs me because I make all the tiles by myself(I usually look at a screenshot from the corresponding zone and that's it.) Not to mention that it only has Sonic 1 zones unlike my hack which borrows zones from Sonic 1-3 |

Oh man I love all the new functions!
They made my life a heck of a lot easier designing things that were buggy in the older versions(Scene editing) Although I can't tell if the weird disppearing sprites when you die glitch is fixed(if the editor had anything to do with that) |

Hmm it seems like it's fine now!
Although I have a really great problem with editing Wily Stage 3 and 4. In 3, I don't know if it's possible to remove the scrolling platforms segment before the boss doors, or if it is, I have no idea how.If I remove the sprites that make the scrolling platform parts constantly solid, I still get a sideways scrolling in those rows(although it's not solid then). And when I get to the end, it seems like if i change anything in the boss room, the clones never come back after teleporting for the first time. In Wily 4, the boss refight is screwed up.It's like whenever i enter the teleport that takes you to Screen 7 (regardless of its position, original or not) I end up in a wall on the previous screen. Also I don't know if it's possible to change the CHR sets to load in the actual boss rooms (I want to have the doc robots in the refight) These are basically the issues I have whenever I hack Mega Man 3 with the editor |

Posted by kuja killer Thanks for the info!Maybe I'll be able to make use of the scrolling platforms because I checked if this was a Level ID pointer for the effect to take place in and I was correct. Well the clone thing I mean is that if I change the structures to TSA blocks that aren't glitchy because of my tile editing, it still happens.I never changed the layout itself or the boss sprite. And yes, I checked it in a previous rom hack and they are both right x $1...however I didn't know about the method of solving the disappearing glitch with midpoints, so maybe it won't glitch out this time. |

Wow it's really strange how you keep alternating between games, I'm guessing you wanna edit the one you can get the most information about.
Well I'm not a professional hacker, but using common sense I found these for Mega Man 3 (I guess the guy that has written something more to this in the Datacrystal database was you Kuja) 0x03D34D - Mega Buster(03) 0x03D34E - Gemini Laser(01) don't touch this, if 02, the gemini laser will pop onto the screen at random locations and may or may not damage what it hits 0x03D34F - Needle Cannon(03) 0x03D350 - Hard Knuckle(01) If you make it 02 then it will fly at double speed but breaks the game if shot at a breakable wall 0x03D351 - Magnet Missile (02) 0x03D352 - Top Spin (00) I have no idea what happens if you touch this, sorry 0x03D353 - Search Snake (03) 0x03D354 - Rush Coil (03) 03 because 1 is for summoning Rush and you can fire 2 buster shots too 0x03D355 - Spark Shock(02) 0x03D356 - Rush Marine (03) Same as RC 0x03D357 - Shadow Blade (01) 0x03D358 - Rush Jet (03) Same as before |

Hell-o guys! (Althouht it's kind of late to say that, I registered two weeks ago)
I hope it's not mandatory to tell everyone my real name so I'm gonna start with something related to this place. I have a common disease called Mega Man fetish. And if I and a cool game come together, I usually try to find a way to customize it or make my own version. So that's how I learned about the existence of Romhacking and it follows from this to finding the board. So I hope I'll be able to get the information I might need and help the ones that are "rookier" than me at the thing. By this part of the post you may have found out that my first language is not English.Although I've been learning it for almost 10 years now so I should've learnt/learned something by now D: Enough said, I've finally found a place where people communicate without using the f word all the time. And are not graphosexual(this is my made up term for most of today's young gamers that only care about super cool graphics and FPS games) I SHOULD FINALLY END THIS POST ALREADY DON'T YOU THINK? - The End - |

I don't know too much about MM4 stuff but I'm guessing that there is a byte that determines how long it takes for the pharaoh shot to charge, however there's like 4 different frames of animation so if you changed these to $FF I guess people would not even try to charge it because it would take like 15-20 seconds, but this is just my theory.[\b]
And yet again sorry for asking bunch of questions about minor things in Mega Man 3, but they are really annoying, especially this one I've been looking for Mega Man's palettes when he gets a new weapon (at the YOU GOT ... scene) and probably found his default palette, but I tried to change the ones that came after it (possibly gemini laser, it was like 0F 20 21 31) but nothing happened. also neither text tables seem to work with the weapon abbreviations that you see in the pause menu, so I'm basically hopeless now AAAND yet a third little thing.I'm guessing the block puzzle in Magnet Man's stage is hard coded as well, so I hope someone knows where the Level ID pointer byte is. Thanks and sorry in advance. |

It was kinda pointless in its entirety I think.I mean they killed a leader. And you know how history exaggerates these kind of stuff and just lazily says:Osama killed thousands. He probably was the mastermind behind it, but he was not the one to carry out these operations that's for sure.If it wasn't for him, it would've been for someone else.
And I think if there's ever going to be a Third World War, it's going to be USA and Europe vs. Iraq and Afghanistan. Also I think they are planning revenge...I just have a bad feeling about this year's September.I mean it's gonna be the 10th anniversary or 9/11.If they're planning something, they will do it that day. Let's hope I'm wrong. |

You don't need to feel like looking it up again, this is more than enough
Really, disappearing blocks don't fit in any stage I've made and plan to make in this project. Now this is the one last thing probably I ask of you. Anything about weapon behavior...I don't even need to edit spark shock and top spin, because those just needed a damage alteration. As for music I'm on my own I guess. |

Posted by Crist_93 Even I can tell you, that you need to learn NES Assembly to program things like that into the game. |
