Hey. Thank you very much for these hacks. Many of them were very amusing, especially the ones with custom music. Keep up the search, because there's plenty more out there just waiting to be discovered.
And there is one other worthy hack I'd like to mention:. Kamikaze Mario DX Plus |

Posted by blackhole89 Okay, I'll take that advice into consideration for next time so I can avoid bumping "dead" topics. To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting Kamikaze Mario DX+ (or if I had mentioned it earlier, it's prequel, Kamikaze Mario Volume 4) to be so controversial due to Mario being naked from the waist down. Both hacks are quite interesting and have decent level design and custom graphics (aside from an abundance of traps and instant-death pits). One reason why I'm into collecting and playing these Mario hacks (besides just playing them) is to record the custom/edited BGM heard in the hacks. It's part of a series I like to call "Mario Hack Series Recordings", and currently has music ripped from both Kamikaze titles, Extra Mario Bros. (an American hack), Paper Sai, Syugyou, Sakura, and Tower R E. I currently plan to rip the BGM from the below hacks once I'm able to find a download link for each one, obtain them, and get them to work. *Elegance (雅趣) *Paint Baggage (ぬるぽ) *PaperMarioBros (Harder version of Paper Sai, with additional BGM) *Oh Wait and Ikku (おーとまてぃっく) *Susie Popai Boss *Ninja Mario Sky (忍空マリオ) *Mario Evolution True 2 *Final Total Length Devil/U.N. Owen Was Her (最終鬼畜全部縦) |

Thank you very much for the link. I was able to download a few hacks that were quite worth some time. Though the search still goes on... |

Hello. I'm here today because I am looking for some help patching this one Japanese hack that's I've been looking to try for a while.
It's called "Super Mario Evolution 2" (also known as Mario Evolution True 2), and is a sequel to a SMB hack that has a Yoshi's Island feel to it. Last month, I downloaded the .izh file from the hack's site (on the bottom-right of the page) and immediately patched the .ips file (using MultiPatch on Macintosh) with a ROM of SMB. The ROM afterwards once patched with the hack wouldn't load. It would stay at a black screen. I tried importing the ips and ROM to a Windows computer and used LunarIPS on there, but still I was met with no luck. Would someone be able to help me figure out what I'm supposed to do to get this hack fully running? |

Well I can extract the .LZH file, but afterwards alongside the .ips file, there is also a .bat file and a .exe file.

I took a look at the BAT file, and inside it said:
"SME2.exe smb1.nes patchme.nes" So afterwards, I duplicated the SMB1 ROM and titled one "smb1.nes" and the other "patchme.nes", then afterwards ran the BAT file. It patched the "patchme.nes" ROM, but it instead made the original SMB1 very glitchy with scrambled graphics. I'm guessing the reason I'm having a difficult time patching this .ios is because half of Mario Evolution 2's levels are vertical-scrolling levels. This is my hypothesis becuase I downloaded a hack called UN Owen Is Her and it also resulted in a blank screen upon patching the ROM. (I did this on the Mac program Multipatch, not sure about Lunar IPS.) |

Well, someone was nice enough to post links to several other Japanese hacks on my blog, so I'll share them here.
Mario vs. Airman and Mario vs. Yellow Devil Transformers Mario Elegance, Tetris Mario, Flower Remix, Genyuu, Gokudo Mario, Promotion Mario Bros; Star Remix, and Super Mushroom. |

Well I tried running the BAT then EXE files, then patched the .ips to Patchme.nes, removed smb1.nes, and the ROM is still blank after patching.
I feel a little ashamed for asking this, but what do I do, from start to finish, to successfully get this hack working? If not, can I get an easy .IPS that all I have to do is patch a ROM and I'm good to go? |

I ran the BAT file, then patched the patchme ROM, then ran the exe file, and the ROM is still entirely blank. No title screen. No anything. I don't know if I should just give up because I'm never going to get this hack to work. -.-
Even the by-itself .ips doesn't work. Do I need to use an emulator other than NEStopia on Windows or Mac? |

Posted by sspp03 Maybe that will solve the problems I've been having with this hack. Do you happen to know where I can get this patch? Posted by zbyte Well I'm not willing to download a NES emulator to my PSP (just too complex), plus I'm pretty sure they don't have an option to record SFX/BGM, so I can record/rip the game's entire soundtrack in wav/mp3 format. The hack does have some kick-butt music. |

Okay, I tried re-patching the SMB1 ROM that already had the primarytrainer patch on it and as expected, no luck. |

Good news; I discovered that the ROM is not broken, as I've tested it on the Windows version (not PSP) of NesterJ. So for whatever reason, NEStopia doesn't run the hack, once again probably due to the even-numbered vertical scrolling levels being too complex for the emulator to handle.
I even discovered it can record .WAV files, so I can record the soundtrack, but it appears NesterJ does not support Game Genie, so I can't do the "Jump as high as you want" cheat (AETLTK) to easily bypass most of the levels (or get via them easier). |

EDIT: Forgot to label this post as a hack; my apologies.
This is a hack I made some time ago that merges Pac-Man with the Bleach universe. In actuality, it's a large modification of a homebrew port of Jr. Pac-Man released for the Atari 7800. Oh right, screens. Diagram of all 7 stages: Apologies if the harsh limitations of both the ROM and editor used don't bring much of a Bleach feel to this game. If you fiddle with the joystick, you can start from any desired level up to 7, or begin on an intro stage: "Stage 0". You can unlock a hidden "Plus" mode by holding Pause and P2 Button 2 on the title screen. You can get the .ips here: http://www.mediafire.com/?o61xh1fh3sxx3ub You'll need the Jr. Pac Man ROM to patch. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/140371-hi-question-about-the-atari-jr-pac-man-discovered/page__view__findpost__p__1740840 Out of curiosity; if you want to know the utility I used, you can grab that here. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/149672-how-to-create-custom-7800-pacman-hacks/ |

Posted by kuja killer Sadly that's one downside with the 7800. I would've loved to do more accurate sprites of the characters but hardware, sprite size, and palette limitations (including those of the editor and the game itself) prevented me from making the characters resemble what they're supposed to be; enough to tell whom one is. Here's the original sheet I made not long before creating the hack, which the hack's graphics were inspired by. The 7800 does not allow one to make sprites 16x16 in size, and every ghost shared a single sprite though with one of the three characters altered rather than four individual characters. If you're wondering why there are six "ghosts" rather than four, I partially based the sheet off of an unlicensed enhanced port of Pac-Man called Champ Pac-Em. |

Teehee; Thank you.
And yea that's Aizen on the far right. I was into Sega's Bleach Games when I came up with Bleach Pac-Man. If I did a Ms. Bleach Pac-Man (which I'm very unlikely to at this rate) Rukia would be Ms. Pac-Man's replacement, and with the Clyde -> Sue swap, Kenpachi would be swapped with Soi Fon. And if I ever updated the sheet, I'd replace the Chinese egg roll and chicken with Takoyaki. |

I'm going to give this hack a go.
25 stages later, Wow. This is one heck of a hack. I'm happy this one modifies the levels rather than these two bootleg hacks I've played that have only done the graphics (One called Mario-Kun, the other Angry Bird 2). They even get the colors wrong after the first few levels, where Mario/Red Bird appears in yellow, and enemies are all colored purple. At least here Luigi and the cherries use their proper colors in all levels of the game. One thing I would have to mention, is there any level(s) besides 21-24 that use the Ice Blocks? I know the only world that uses their proper palette is the ice world, but with proper palette configuration they could go into later worlds. |
