And I shall deem thee Kartgate. Seriously though, I wanted to believe dirtbag untill I saw that .gif, and eben then I was going "Well there's more shading under the chin on one... and there's a logo on his hand..." but then I realized that I was just stretching things. Come on dude, don't be afriad to credit someone for something. I have a ton of stuff in my hack that I borrowed off of Bit-Blade, all it takes is a couple of letters strung together to be a name in the credits and everything is all good.

Holy Crap! A flying car! That is coming along really nicely. You might get me into playing DOOM again. I got those 5 floppy disks around here somewhere...

The map works like a level. You edit the 16x16 blocks of tiles and then arrange them the way you want. Here's the notes optomon drummed up for the TSA editing portion of it:
0x12D6A : Graphic layout begin for castle map.

The first byte should be a 55. It occurs every 16 bytes or so. The 16 bytes between each
"55" make a 4x4 16 tile square. The first of these 16 bytes are:

00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 30 31 32 33 3B 34 34 34

aand then the second 55. The 55 chooses what palette is used for that 16x16 block.

Anyway, on the screen, the tiles will be arranged like this according to the bytes:

00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00
30 31 32 33
3B 34 34 34

This is the upper left corner of the map. 00 I believe is solid black, and 34 is solid
yellow. The other numbers are map creases and folds. The next 16 bytes are for the 4x4 just
below it.

Now, the positioning for the dot and the bat for each level. This is really easy.

0x1C7D7 : The positiong for the "dot" on the map for each level. The first byte is for the
"Y" position, the second is for the "X" position. The first two bytes are 00 00 for level 1.
This means of course, that it is in the top left corner, but there is no map screen for
level 1, so it doesn't really matter.

Level 1 : 00 00
Level 2 : 94 94
Level 3 : 76 4C
Level 4 : 70 2A
Level 5 : 7B 98
Level 6 : 4E 7C

0x1C7E3 : The position for the bat, it works the same way.

Level 1 : 00 00
Level 2 : 72 54
Level 3 : 62 A4
Level 4 : 82 9D
Level 5 : 52 84
Level 6 : 38 29

Next time he's on, him and I are going to look into arranging the 16x16 blocks correctly. Once we figure that out, one of us will put up some notes on doing that. I just know that the data is directly above the data I just gave you, I don't really know where it starts though.

Actually I think I have like jDOOM or something floating around on my computer. It's been a long time since I fired that game up. I've been pretty stuck on playing Rise of the Triad lately though, so I'm sort of getting back in the old school FPS mood.

**EDIT**

TSA Hackin'!
...obviously I have a lot more work to do...

I mean it. MIGHT. We're almost ready for the beta-testing phase of Chorus of Mysteries, and we're looking for one more person, ONE, for the beta testing team. There are a few requirements though.

1. We have to at least know who you are
2. You have to have at least a little experience with Catlevania hacking
3. You have to be really good at Castlevania

Apply here.

Wow I'll be sure to give it a try eventually sometime soon.

Reading that last part you said about:

"I hope you all enjoy it, this hack's been in production since 2004, and hopefully I can actually make the final verison before the year 2072"

Sure made me "lol" ....That's the way I feel about my megaman 3 hack that i started august 2005 ....but I don't think I'll be finished with it until sometime 2010 or later. ...Seriously!

Don't worry you two. You'll get them done. Hell, I've been working on Chorus of Mysteries well over a year now, and it's almost ready. I'm not real into Pokemans, but this sounds pretty promising.

Well I mean they are mystery solvers professionally I think. I mean I figure that's why they were always so pumped to go after a marrow-sucking monster. They find out that it's old Mr. Jenkins and then charge the tax payers of the community... that... or the Mystery Machine's dashboard is LOADED with drugs... or illegal immagrants.

Yeah, I noticed. In all seriousness though, I'm pretty sure that they think of themselves, and have said before on the show, as a kind private detective agency. So yeah, I think it actually is explained on the show.

It just more fun to think of them as like Shine runners or something.

Or dope dealers. How the hell else would Scooby and Shaggy laugh and get the munchies so often?

Yeah, I just wanted to pick the most bizzare thing I could think of. Buy yeah, Shaggy? Huge stoner. The dude eats freaking dog food!

Meh, I'll take one for the team here. I mean seriously, I actually DID get a Wii by doing one of those "Pay for all these offers and get a Wii" things... well I got a check for $249.99 which I used to buy a Wii, so I'm not splitting hairs. So after doing that, too many people already have my personal info, so eh, I don't care if a few more do. I'll let you guys know what happens.

This inpired me to try to "clean up" Kirby a little bit. I started making the sprites, I'll look into it tomorrow. I'm going to try to give him the star rod instead of a halo. I just need to get some of the animations to work correctly. A lot of the small mario animations are going to take a little hex editing, and swimming is going to be a pain to animate.

I don't know, I don't think the problem is DD doing really cool stuff. I think he's doing some awesome work. The problem comes in, when he posts something in the screenshot thread and then there's about 50 people posting stuff like "OMG!" "*insert random smiley here*" "WOW! That's really cool"

I dunno... I guess I just like how they handle it over at RHN. They have a screenshot thread for showing off a quick screen here and there, and then a Personal Projects section for stuff like DD's SMB3 project, or just any rom hack in general where you're going to be showing a lot of screens.

I also really hope that you finish this one completely. It's sounding like it will be really fun. Just don't pull an original SMB3 and implement cool ideas and then use them once... I'm looking at you Giant World. MAke sure there is a decent amount of stuff that depend on you using things like the ground pound. A good idea would be to have levels that you need to go back to after you've earned one of the new abilities in order to complete some sort of task.

Yeah, thats basically the concept which I described above, which Wario Land 3 was based around.

It'd need some pretty fucking clever level design though. A nice variety of different puzzles and a decent learning curve.

Yeah lol you just finished your post first. I think reguardless this hack would need some really clever level design.

I stopped watching it a few years ago honestly. I used to be real into that stuff, but since it has been getting so bad lately, I just can't get into it. I mean serioulsy, the only reason I tune in anymore is because I want to see the Boogeyman... because that shit is funny to me, well that and on the off chance that I AM watching it, I might get to see Fit Finaly in action. That dude has always been one of my favorites.

Seriously though? I miss WCW house shows more than anything.

This is a hack of the original Castlevania for NES that optomon and I have been working on for over a year. Optomon has done all the coding, music, and some level design, and I've done all the graphics, some level design, and the map. So what's changed?

-New GFX
-New levels
-New level paths
-New map
-New sub-weapon
-New music
-Music on the title screen
-New enemies
-New bosses
After I get through the story I'll give you an example of each.

--STORY--
1476, Romania. A terrifying castle rises up from the mist. Along with the castle rose a dark powerful being named Count Dracula Vlad Tepes. A man named Trevor Belmont was fated to defeat the powerful vampire, aided by a witch named Sypha, Dracula's own son Alucard, and a pirate named Grant DeNasty. Together the team traversed the dark halls of Castlevania, defeating the count and his countless minions.

In 1777 a young child was born, and abandoned on a merchant ship with nothing but a headband with a mysterious crest, and the name Armund. The sailors raised the child on the high seas, and taught him the ways of being a sailor. Armund grew to be one of the greatest men that the merchant ship ever saw.

Late 1797, word started to spread of the legends of Count Dracula, and his tyranny in the land of Romania. It was about that time, that Armund ran into an old Romanian man in Serbia. The old man knew a lot about the history of Count Dracula, and his reign of terror in Romania. The old man recognized the crest on Armund's bandanna, and told him that it belonged to the DeNasty clan, and that his ancestor helped defeat Dracula. Armund decided to leave his life on the high seas to seek out more answers about his ancestry.

Romania, 1800. It's been 3 years since Alucard defeated his father in battle and has gone into eternal slumber. Armund's search has taken him to the mountains of Romania, not far from the town of Jova. A mysterious letter hinted that he might be able to find answers in the castle of Count Olrox, a servant of Count Dracula's. Armund set out of Olrox's castle, armed only with an enchanted barbed rope from Serbia. This will truly be the greatest and most arduous adventure of Armund DeNasty's life.

--New GFX/Levels--

The level pictured is level 2, The Royal Chessboard. All of the level's graphics are brand new, along with the level's design, and the actual level path, leaving nothing of the original level.

--New Map--

This is the new map. Seeing how the game takes place around the same time as SotN, I wanted to have the same kind of map. We also needed a new map because it's a different castle, with new level paths in it.

--New Sub-Weapon--

Pictured above is Armund using the Laurels. The idea was taken straight out of Castlevania 2. They take the place of the stopwatch, and using them takes 8 hearts, but they give you temporary invincibility.

--New Music--
This hack has a completely new soundtrack, scored by optomon. All of the songs are completely original, except Dance of Pales. Dance of Pales is a song played in SotN in the Olrox's Quarters section of the castle. You can download the .nsf here: http://chorusofmysteries.googlepages.com/downloads

--New Enemies--
(stolen from our site)

Skeleape- These are what Olrox keeps around instead of Axe Armors, and they are a lot more intense. The skeleape moves back and forth quickly, stopping erratically and throwing nega-boomerangs (like the ones Evil Trevor has in SotN) They take four hits to kill, but they have a weakness...

--New Bosses--
(stolen from our site)

Slogra- Level 3's Boss. Slogra awaits you on top of Olrox's castle. When you encounter him he runs quickly around the screen, and jumps high into the air. He throws bones at you, and shoots fireballs.
