Not to mention that the cartoon style was an attempt to go back to their roots. It was supposed to feel more like the style of the older games. I mean just because a game isn't 8vit styled doesn't mean it wasn't an attempt to go back to a game series' roots. It's just a little more subtle. |

Okay, so I'm going to be quoting a big post by optomon here, because I don't feel like rewording it, but there's a ton of new updates for the hack.
New HUD (don't remember if this was posted here or not) "Indicates amount of health, hearts, money, and part of the castle. The double/triple shot icons (not pictured) fit in between the last digit of money (which I'll get rid of later) and the heart icon." Updated NSF "#6- Original piece, made for the Catacomb area in mind, but I might use it for something else. #7- Arrangement of "Opus 13" from Rondo of Blood, theme for the Armory." "Vertical areas now scroll two directions (this was TOUGH) Since the game is going to have some backtracking, the player must be able to go up and down in the vertical areas (in Castlevania 3, these rooms could only scroll either upward or downward). After sewing tons of code together like frankenstein with new code, the player can freely move upward or downward in a vertical area without the screen unravling, disappearing, etc." "A menu screen appears (and disappears) when the player presses select. Only one thing on this screen so far, the ability to toggle through playable characters: The face of the character changes as you select other characters with the little arrow. This was the most memory efficient thing I could come up with. And memory is crucial on this screen because I need to have it support a map of some kind. The current idea I have is to make two separate status screens, one with a real time map of the part of the castle you are currently in, and one with a not so real time map of the entire castle (which entire parts of the castle appear once a "map" item is found in them). An inventory of items will also likely end up on one of these screens." |

Simply put:
Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Making swinging puzzles would be a blast. Left 4 Dead. Do I even need to explain? |

Real time maps now work, along with character selection. There are going to be two map screens. A real time map, which shows the area of the castle that you are in, and uncovers as you enter a new screen, and then a full castle map. We haven't figured out how to handle that one yet, if it will just always show the entire castle, or if you have to get a map item to see part of it or what. It all depends on what the NES can handle. Each map screen will also have a selection menu. The real time map will have character selection, while the castle map will have your inventory. So on with some screenies of the real time map.
This is how the map will naturally appear when you're in a new area. The little red dot is your current position. This is after you get the map item. The dark areas are parts of the map you haven't been to yet. The room with the dot is for "special" room types. Those would include things like shortcut rooms, special item rooms, and probably the merchant. The other thing we finally got working is vertical scrolling areas. Before now those rooms could only scroll in one direction at a time, and even after we got it to scroll both ways, sprites and background data got all messed up, but now that doesn't happen any more. One plan we currently have is to also make rooms exitable from the top and bottom of the screen, so if there's a pit, it won't kill you, you'll just appear in the room below you. |

You'd use a time machine to... ummm... win math competitions? I mean I think I'd probably use it to become incredibly wealthy or powerful or something, or maybe go to the future, I think you're really missing the whole scope of this time travel thing. |

New tech demo video time.
Here's the description I yelled at everyone to read: **READ THIS BEFORE WATCHING** Many of the features you'll see here are still very much a work in progress. At the end I use a shortcut room that just leads to a junk area in the Alchemy Lab. Obviously it won't be like that in the final game. Actually with the exception of some of the graphics and the new music, none of what you're seeing is final product, it's just basically set up to test things out, even the Alchemy Lab tileset is getting replaced. The map will disappear during the video, that's because we are using the knife as a placeholder for the map item, so it only fully shows when Richter has a knife equipped. So when Richter isn't selected, then the game won't show the full map. There isn't a boss fight at the end of the entrance in this demo, if you want to see that, check out the old tech demo. The doors don't open and close because optomon is going to be rewriting how doors, meat, and breakable objects work to make them use less memory. I think other than that, pardon our dust in some areas, and enjoy. Leave annotations on, I'll be pointing out stuff as it goes along. |

Posted by KawaPosted by Dr. HellThat was sweet, Doc. Sweet enough to ignore the messed up enemy sprites. Yeah, don't mind them, obviously they won't be there eventually. All of the stuff in the video was more or less just a big test area to try out the new elements, so we weren't too worried about loading the correct enemy tilesets all the time. |

I think I'm going to check this out, I'm attempting to download it now. I will say the one drawback to free MMO's and this also goes for private servers that you'd normally have to pay for, is the spending real money for items thing. I think it's kind of lame, and really limits your PvP options. |

Posted by Kawa Just a reminder to everyone who seems to have missed the point... Okay, so according to a new secret code found in the bible on February 14th 2012 a meteor will pass just by Earth. It won't make contact with the planet, but it will come close enough that it will enter orbit around it. The new object in orbit will cause massive tidal waves, covering a large portion of the planet and destroying nearly anything in it's path. This won't fully end all of humanity though. In the coming year all of the bodies washed up by the flood will begin spreading disease through the world. It will start off spreading things like AIDS and the plague, you know, like the original plague. The human race, crawling with disease, hunger, and desperation will start dropping like flies. More diseases will continue to spread and grow until it gets to the point where they become parasitic. This new breed of parasitic disease will essentially render the host body into a mindless animal roving the planet looking to eat anything in it's path. Seeing how by now regular parasites will also be rampant, The Hunger will never be able to be fulfilled. So these diseased people will continue to eat until they are killed by other diseases or if someone is defending themselves from the infected. Eventually the whole world will be either consumed by disease, or consumed by the diseased. |
